I had that honor as well, and he really is a true warrior. By far the most deadly person I have ever been with.

We Filipinos have warrior blood in us. It has been proven many times in the battlefields of war, like the Philippine Revolution, the World War 2, the Korean War and many other battle where the Filipinos were involved and became famous for bravery and gallantry.

It is now clearer to me how Lapu-lapu defeated Magellan and his army. Mabuhay ang Filipino martial arts!😘

I have this on vhs. It’s too bad the interview is cut up a bit because other things are said that are really interesting. Maybe you did it for time constraints. Also there was a lot of stick work in the original.
It would be cool to show the whole thing. A lot of people would find it quite interesting.
The original is at least 2 hours long.
Maybe it could be offered again for sale.
    For posterity sake.

No GT and Doce Pares are contemporaries . The Tortal family has their own art.

@@spurgeonholloman8135 well i dunno dionisio canete said hes the one who created this tortal family story for gaje to give him a background for his style. Yeah, thats the story circulating here in cebu

Nah, to me their arts are different. While I can believe GM Diony might have helped create the historical backstory embellishment of the Tortal family art, since he was the founder and President of the WEKAF which promoted the FMA worldwide. They might have cross trained and possibly influenced each other's style, but I don't think he had anything to do with the creation of the Tortal art and its techniques. Having watched GM Cacoy and the Doce Pares Team training and doing demos in Cebu back in the late 80s and then having trained in the Tortal art in the 90s. I can see there is a fundamental difference in both arts' approach and philosophy.

@@yourfellowpilgrimThis is true. Gaje was exposed as a charlatan ever since he hid from a true fighter, GM Cacoy Canete in the now infamous challenge match in NY during the 70’s. There were many eyewitnesses including GM Diony, Dong Cuesta and even some of Gaje’s students at that time. The other well known story was Gaje learning some basic stick drills at the Canetes and he awkwardly broke their lamp. Gaje stole Doce Pares drills then he met Silat master Eddie Jafri and mimicked some of his moves. You can plainly see the change of Gaje’s movement after Jafri. He also stole the title “ Tuhon “ from another. Just look at older vids of Gaje and the cringe circle talk is plain as day.
