nice video mate, falkus was a legend in the field, his knowledge of fish in the fresh was second to none, another book of inspiration for me was "sea-trout: how to catch them" by f.w. holiday

Nice video Simon. A couple of your flies to add to my armoury to try on my West Wales river. I come from around the Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells in Kent and didn't know about the history of the Bloody Butcher. Thanks for sharing. Tight Lines for 2022.

I was a Falkus disciple in West Wales in the 1980s. I never had much success with any of the Falkus patterns apart from Medicine so I stuck to that, Peter Ross and Teal, Blue and Silver.

I found that Hugh's methods work , but I have always found that a brown dull fly with very little dressing and no name especially on a really dark overcast night with a slight breeze out fished anything with colour and tinsel. Best years
1973 1999 . I only bothered taking a fly rod out after dark, as daylight fly fishing did not have the
Buzz and excitement as the night. I have fished all over the world ( fly ) including Russia for salmon but nothing can compare with the years

Which river did he feature.? I know he stayed near the Esk but for some reason I thought it was the Annan. Can anyone remember for sure.?
