Great vid, Shane! Very informative and useful. Really nice rhythm tone with the Tele, just enough dirt to make it interesting! Thanks for doing these. I enjoy your videos more than any I see out there. Short, sweet, and they make sense!!!

I don't know what it is about your tone. I've seen you use different amps and guitars and pedals. I appreciate how when I click on your videos, the sound of your amp, guitar and whatever else you got going on, sounds so lively, so real, like I can close my eyes and think I'm there with you. That's not even the best part though, what I truly appreciate is the dexterity of your playing, the soul, the emotion. I've seen others even bore themselves in the video, lol! But your tone grabs my attention from the first chord played.

Now this is a very usefull video. I actually sometimes use an SFT for this purpose. It also stacks other pedals in front of it very well and fattens up the bottom end of my small amp.

this is strange ...just this eve ..i did this very thing - and i stumbled on it without watching this vid - bit of cosmic confirmation that i am on the right track. The effect was subtle- but just like this vid - crucial to getting that little bit of grit that made the tone bite a bit - great vid shane .

I personally use a splash of reverb (always on) and my trusty Vox Duel Overdrive. Basically I keep its first channel on with a light overdrive setting that affords me to play clean when I lighten the touch or roll back the volume knob. This is the backbone of my sound... Then I add other pedals to taste, stacking overdrives or adding modulation effects... That's it. I do have 2 always-on pedals.

Hey, Shane. Nice vid. I am one of the guys out the there who's always playing kinda clean. I use the Blues Driver Keeley mod to so so. It works great for me. However I'm still in the search for improvements. Hahaha

A Boss Blues Driver is a great pedal to use if you want to get this tone as well. It doesn't push the mid frequencies as much as a tube screamer type of pedal. I actually prefer it over the klon style pedals for this sound.

Cheers heaps shano! Been looking for some info about how some guitarists get a sweet clean-ish tone with the tiniest bit of grit from a pedal
Do ya reckon you could do a vid on the ibanez modernfusion soundtank mf5 pedal? I feel strongly it's an underrated pedal that deserves some more attention and it would be cool to see what you make of it!
As always, mad content shane !

Great vid Shane. FYI, i purchased the Royal Flush and Vibler because of your reviews. Of course, my wife lost it at saying "How many pedals do you want". Forgive me, in that moment of weakness I blamed you so if you get a message from an angry woman...you know why. Ha!

It gets more transparent with high voltage as well. I only need to compensate for bass. Because it really reduces bass.

When you’re setting your tone through the pedals. Where do you set your guitar volume?

  • @vasostach666
    @vasostach666 7 лет назад

Tubescreamer wins for me, sounds just sweeter, plus the typical pronounced midrange makes you stand out in a mix more. However, I prefer to set my amp overdriven and control the gain with my guitar volume pot.

Hi Shane…. I’m a guitarist that plays a lot of smooth jazz with overdrive very frequently only problem is once I switch back to clean from overdrive then my clean isn’t pure clean anymore and still has that crunchy sound…. Any advice on that? Oh btw I’m a peavey bandit transtube with a boss od x1.

I have a Russian Muff. Use a TS style overdrive, like you would with a heavy amp. Tightens everything up and helps cut though

My clean channel doesn't have an EQ, I like the Keeley Super Phat Mod a d the King of Tone better than the TS808 because they don't have a crazy mid hump and no bass frequencies.

Love the up strum rake you do, been trying to get that happening but cant seem to get it right, any tips? p.s I use the soulfood for my always on pedal for my band setting but just bought a fried liver a week ago. Hasn't arrived yet though!

cool, also a tubescreamer style od pedal seems to sound a bit fuzzy when trying to go for off-clean/edge of breakup (at least in my experience), so i was thinking that perhaps a klon centaur type od pedal might be better (like the ehx soul food)? I'm not sure though. Maybe you could try to revisit this type of sound, the off-clean/edge of break up type tones.
