Fascia, without a face. Timber frame deck rebuild.

  • I received another dump truck full of cedar from our good friend Phil! In that delivery was one really big cedar that I was able to mill several large fascia boards from for our timber frame deck rebuild. That was a really beautiful log and produced great lumber. Then I picked the second biggest to get the remaining boards needed.
I've got more cedar there than I need at the moment, but I do have plans to continue tidying up that deck area underneath, so this will be perfect for that (that'll be next year likely).
A quick glimpse of our weekend at the lake, and then back to work on the deck to get the joists trimmed, fascia installed, and plywood finished off. (I did screw in the plywood pieces at the end 😊)
Thanks for watching and see you in the next video
    M 💕

It’s simple really. Steve won the lottery. They said you can have a hundred million dollars Canadian, or you can have number 73, sitting over there in the penalty box. He said, I’ll take 73. He chose very well. 🥰

Aw yes..... Another Smiley Sunday of MichyMilling. You knocked this one out of the park. That deck should last a very long time now. In the last video you said you are an athlete. It is so great to see that athleticism being put to a constructive purpose. What great work. Looking forward to seeing it completed. I'll bet the avalanches from the roof wont be such a problem this coming winter. It will be interesting to see your reports on that.

Doing good! Thank you for using personal protection gear! Some say "Why wear a hard hat if all you are doing is cutting logs? The reason is "Kickback", which happens so fast you cannot react. If the bar comes at your face try to duck and the chain will be stopped by your hard hat. If you get in the habit of using it you will always be protected. Anyone can lose control for an instant that turns into a serious event. *** I love your site! ***

On a tapered log like that, usually recommended to center the pith so your resulting dimensional boards have the grain running parellel versus diagonal through the it. On my mill I just keep a cheap automotive floor jack and raise the narrower end for those first two cuts establishing the 90 degree sides of the cant. Love your videos, keep it up!

Hi Michy, just for the sake of tool longevity; When you use your Torque Wrench, 'always' wind it back to zero after use. Left 'loaded' the spring will weaken if left compressed taking the calibration out of wack and giving you an inaccurate value. This will also serve to extend the life of the band-saw blades and the accuracy of cutting ... Keep making the videos, much enjoyed 😎

The Cedar from Phil is Beautiful. Congrats on your continuing apprenticeship. Dilly and Steve are fortunate to have such great and eager help. I wish my helpers were as skilled. What a work ethic! Job well done and Thank You for sharing your week of toil. Well Done!Phi
