The 2nd duet on this concert was "Stabat Mater Dolorosa". It is mindblowing. Why? The Stabat mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi is a setting of the medieval poem of the same name for alto, soprano, strings and basso continuo. This is the best-known sacred work by the Italian composer and was written in 1736, a few weeks before his death. And Simone and Floor kick ass ;D
FYI : Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre.
The lyrics from this Epica song are written by Simone, Epica's leadsinger. Basically it's about a suicide bomber who thinks he is in heaven but actually ended up in hell but he doesn't know. And he likes it there.... This video is taken from Epica 's 10th Anniversary called Retrospect in 2013. It's a nearly 3 hrs show with a full orchestra and choir live on stage. It was the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre. Epica worked with them already in 2008 during ' The classical conspiracy' live show. In this Retrospect show Floor was there as a guest vocalist for 2 songs. So Simone kept up these high soprano notes for almost 3 hours, amazing.
The best duet ever. Two wonderful voices and two friends together. This is the way to heaven ♥ The orchestra in this live show was "The Extended Hungarian Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra" with the "Choir of Miskolc National Theatre" if I don't wrong .
Yep 10 year anniversary retrospective concert back in 2013( same year as the epic ghostlove score wacken performance of nightwish) fyi simone simons and floor jansen are bffs from when they were teenagers, no they didnt live together as some people sugested but they hung out alot together( there is a youtube video of them jamming together) simone and floor also collaborated alot for arjen lucassen ( Ayreon) As mentioned they both did another song on this concert staba mata dolorosa
Epica was formed in part by Mark Jansen (no relation) after the folding of After Forever which had Floor as lead singer. By the way, Simone was pregnant at this concert.
I just want to add to all comments here that Simone was pregnant at this concert, and she rocked for 3 hours! For me, this performance comes directly from Valhalla.
Kudos to the lighting and sound engineers for this production. Epica, Simone, and Floor are always excellent. Imagine being the members of the orchestra and trying to read the music while strobe lights are going crazy.
Ye, imagine having to setup the sound for each and everyone, which they did. And mixing in 'the beast' on drums etc. I recall the preparations started 2 years in advance...... just insane. Also, Mark is a freaking genius for writing music that allows you to hear everything
Great reaction. I first listened to this song because I am a Nightwish fan and followed Floor. I left as an Epica fan and have been buying up most of their back catalogue all through the pandemic. While Floor had yet to join Nighwish full time when this was recorded I like the general friendliness between fans of both bands and other 'metal' bands in general. I don't see much petty rivalry between fan groups in this genre. Epica has a new album out, it will be mentioned and promoted by fans on Nightwish pages and vice versa. It's a breath of fresh air. Slight genre shift but Amon Amarth themselves promoted the new Iron Maiden album on their page and urged their fans to go buy it. Of course there will be d!cks everywhere but in the main it's a pleasant, inclusive genre to be a fan of.
Delicious spontaneous reaction 🔝 Floor and Simone are good Friends for a long time 💕 Yes... This was a great Performance 🤩 With a large orchestra. The voices sounded AMAZING! Thank You... Love from the The Netherlands 🇳🇱 🌷 🇳🇱 🙋🏼♀️
These two incredible ladies have known each other for years, often guest appearances too, the (symphonic) metal band scene in the Netherlands is like a small family hehe. They also constantly switch singing styles during the song, which is extra hard when the concert is 3.5 hours lol. Oh and pregnant. This was there 10 year anniversary and they brought everything lol
Love this and how there are so many outstanding female Dutch singers in the symphonic metal scene right now. If you want to listen to 2 other Dutch singers singing a duet try 'Within Temptation - Somewhere live with the Metropole Orchestra' with lead singer Sharon Del Aden and guest Anneke Van Giersbergen.
One of the uploads of that song, from Black Symphony, labelled it "The Most Beautiful Duet Ever Recorded." I tend to agree!! Sharon and Anneke sound great together. Yes... something about Dutch singers... must be something in the water in the Netherlands! ;)

It's a bit misleading to describe this as a collaboration between Epica and Nightwish, since at the time (2013) Floor was filling in on tour for Nightwish's previous singer Anette Olzon, and even that for just a few months. The fans in the audience would likely know her from her previous band After Forever and current (as of 2013) band ReVamp. Floor was a hardworking musician for 14 years before she joined Nightwish. You should check out some of her older stuff.
EPICA, Nightwish - I understand the link but in fact it is nonsense; Nightwish was never in the equation. Floor was not a member of Nightwish at the time of this concert... just a tour member/session artist/freelance singer (touring with NW since October).. Simone and Floor had been friends for quite some time at this moment. On the 23rd of March 2013 internationally renowned metal band Epica will celebrate their 10th anniversary with a special performance entitled_“Retrospect” _which will take place in the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven, in their home country the Netherlands. _“Retrospect” _will be Epica’s most ambitious project to date, joined by a 70-piece symphonic orchestra and choir, international guests and lots of special effects. On 9 October 2013, Nightwish announced Jansen as Olzon's permanent replacement in the band.
A fusion of Epica and Nightwish? Wtf are you talking about? That is completely nonsense. This is a 100% Epica song. Nightwish has absolutely nothing to do with it. There is no fusion. Only a nice guest appearence of Floor and a great duet with Simone.
That's all I meant by it was Floor was representing Nightwish. I know she was solo and it's an Epica song, but I know her from Nightwish. I'm sorry if I made it seem like it was a true fusion of the 2 bands.

Simone and Floor are not only Dutch.
They've also been friends for a long time.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
The entire Epica Retrospect concert is outstanding from start to finish. You can get a LOT of content out of that masterpiece (hint hint).
Plus, it's pretty much the last time we saw Coen with his hair.
FYI : Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre.
Best concert ive seen!

Yes that is the story behind the song
Plus Simone was 3 months pregnant
This band is just from another dimension!
@@fritsyt2090 Yes my friend they are. It's probably lonely up there alone on top of the symphonic metal scene without any competition..
@@jaapblaauw3735 oh yes, you're totally right about that!
The Orchestra and Choir from Miskolc, Hungary.
The best duet ever. Two wonderful voices and two friends together. This is the way to heaven ♥ The orchestra in this live show was "The Extended Hungarian Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra" with the "Choir of Miskolc National Theatre" if I don't wrong .
Ayreon - the day that the world brakes down, official video. Both Simone and Floor are in it

I think she introduced them earlier that night as a Hungarian Orchestra

It's not called high pitched singing lol it's operatic both Floor and Simone are classically trained and they have been friends for 20+ years
