Hello Travis Smith [Front Row Chaos] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

She can sing pretty much anything exactly how she wants. The band is amazing. Read up on what General Gabriel sends you. Can’t go wrong with his recommendations. Floor did do a cover of a Disney song (Let it Go) and a song that Heart made famous (Alone) in her home studio during the pandemic. Next, “I think it’s time for a little story. Her name is Floor, and the goosebumps you're getting are called "floorgasms"! You'll get floorgasms on pretty much every song she sings! 82,000 people here. This entire concert is killer! The band is super tight. Floor can sound like an angel in one breath, growl in the next, sing opera the next! The nightwish army (fans) calls here a Valkerie, goddess, our queen. I am from the US and Nightwish, along with Floor Jansen, is my most favorite artists in the entire world but there is -0- airplay in the states - Here, the airwaves are so overly run with cute little 2 minute commercial dittys full of auto tune made for the clubbers and the rappers - I have been listening to music from Europe for the past 30 years and stay away from the crap in the US
Sir, Wacken is a very small town in North Germany (less than 2000 inhabitants) and they raise and tent Cattle, so their symbol is the bull´s head. once a year Wacken grows by about 80,000 people from all over the world, visiting one of the biggest heavy metal festival in the world. Never was there violence or any evil stuff. Especially the wild looking guys and gals in leather are the most well behaved guests you could wish for.

After a 5 day visit to my home I drove my cousin and her family back to the airport this morning, they are from California and the husband is a classical musician and performs for a well known classical symphony orchestra in that state. Naturally as a dedicated Nightwish fan I couldn’t do that long without listening to Nightwish so on day 3, I played the album Human nature. He heard the music and was very keen on wanting to know who they were. So I played him some of the older stuff too, naturally with Floor Jansen as I’m Dutch and in the Netherlands and very proud of my fellow country woman. He loved their music and made a note to look into them. I think I got him hooked!

Sir, most info you get from Gabriel, he is the best source for Nightwish. The singer, For Jansen, studied Rockmusic and clasic singing at the conservatory in the Netherlands. Since the beginning of the 21st century she is also a professional vocal coach, giving master classes. She also is a all around good human being.

Nightwish Trench Division N.Z. reporting in. Welcome good sir to the world of Nightwish. Floor Jansen is Dutch last name pronounced ( Yansen ) Is a 6.1 foot tall Valkyrie Queen. Started in a band called After forever aged 16, later Revamp, side project Northward and currently Nightwish. Floor has performed with many groups like Epica, Ayreon, to name a few and stared on the t.v. show the Beste Zangers ( Best Singers ) Floor has done many cover songs and made them her own this includes one from the band Heart that song was Alone. When floor first did a cover for that song it was when she was in After forever and Anne Wilson herself commented thanking her. Floor made another more recent cover at her home studio hightly recommended. Floor has also a solo album being made and has a few music videos you could watch on You Tube.

The composer of the band is the keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen, he is one of the best in the world. They have a symphony orchestra and choir behind them on tape, music like you never heard before. Floor stands 6 feet, 1.5 inches tall in bare feet, and she's wear 4 to 5 inch heels here.....she is truly the Valkyrie Goddess.....audience was an intimate little gathering of 82,000.....this entire show is on RUclips and DVD, titled "showtime, Storytime"......Floor has formal training in classical (not opera) and music theatre.....Tuomas Holopainen is the keyboardist, co-founder, leader, guru, composer, lyricist, arranger, and producer of 95% of the band's music....he is known as "the Metal Mozart"......Nightwish Army, South Carolina, USA

This band is sooo addicting because they are soooo good! I am 68years old and so often their songs (new and old) reduce me to tears. (Regardless of how often I hear them!)
I am of the opinion that Nightwish is the band that I have waited my entire musical listening life waiting for...but I didn't know it until I first heard of them through a Ghost Love Score reaction video.

Floor Jansen (the singer) did some Disney covers in her barn during COVID lockdown. She did it for her daughter, you can find it on youtube. She is widely (and not only in the metal scene) as one of the best female vocalists in the world. She can sing opera, musical, growling death metal, rock, pop, etc. Just search her name and you will eventually get everything she does. She also will release her first solo album next month, but she stated she will remain with Nightwish too.

Funny enough, during lockdowns, Floor Jansen (the vocalist & pronounced like Yahn-sen) did covers on her YT channel! One was Alone, by Heart, and she also did 2 Frozen songs (Disney) for her daughter! Lol! Nailed it, my friend! You should definitely check those out! She is an amazing vocalist! You've already been visited by our General, Gabriel Bardac. He will give you amazing info on the band! Welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal! Nightwish will always surprise you; they have many sounds. No two song are alike, though all have that unmistakable element you recognize as Nightwish! Tuomas (Too - ah - mus) is the keyboardist, composer, and writer. The band does also contribute to the writing and composition and they record with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (if im not mistaken) for all of the orchestral parts to their music. You will enjoy this rabbit hole so I hope you continue down! They have thought provoking and deeply poetic lyrics. There is not much screaming or growling with this band, like with a lot of metal. I think you will enjoy their music and delving into the messages in all of their songs! Some are just based on fantasy - like mythology. Others are based on life and experiences...the human condition. One song is a tribute to the father of planetary science, another tells the musical story of the birth of the earth through man, another is what Tuomas refers to as an "Ode to human empathy", another is basically a tribute to the great literary minds over the generations, and many, many more. They have been making amazing music since 1996, so there is a TON for you to listen through! Truly amazing! I would do the song Storytime live from Wacken 2013 (same concert) for your next reaction, if you wish to continue with Nightwish!

It's always great to see someone enjoying their first introduction to Nightwish. The lady slaying this song is Floor Jansen and though it might sound strange.. you have not seen half of what she is capable of, you just scratched the surface with this song. Nightwish plays symphonic metal and you will find all their songs very different. They don't do repeat, every song is different and they also don't do fillers, every song is a killer. This was song 13 of the Wacken concert that introduced Floor to the European crowd after she took over from the old singer just 10 months before. The whole concert is this quality, it's arguably one of the best concerts ever recorded. Enjoy you journey into their catalogue, we'll be right there with you. And whatever you do, do a live version, they are real musicians, no pitch correction or autotune, they are better live than in the studio🤘

Northern New England Division reporting in and welcome to the wonderful world of Symphonic Metal. The glorious mash up of symphonic composition, orchestral instruments and heavy metal. Nightwish is one of the premier groups within this genre and Floor Jansen is one of the most versatile and amazing singers. She is also a very down to earth person and very sweet. During the pandemic she got bored stuck at home so she and her husband, drummer of Swedish power metal band Sabaton (which you should checkout), recorded a number of covers and released them on her YT channel. One of her first was a cover of Let it Go from Frozen for her daughter Freja and also a cover of Alone by Heart, so spot on about the Ann Wilson vibes. Let me encourage you to keep exploring beyond our US borders. There is a whole world of great music out there that we never get to hear unless we end run the US music industry. For aother band similar to Nightwish checkout Epica. For a first listen I recommend Unleashed live from their Retrospect concert with a live orchestra and choir on stage.

Nice that you found the best band there is. The keyboard player - Tuomas Holopainen - is a genius music/lyric writer and therefore called as Metal Mozart....and they all are top class what they do. They can do all the genres if they want from Opera to Black metal. In 1996 they changed the music world already....taking this symphonic metal concept up.

Me finding Tom MacDonald and Nightwish were some of the only good things to come out of the covid shut-downs. With nothing to do and no where to go to - I found myself looking for entertaining and turned to RUclips and stumbled on the reaction channel sub-culture that is now so ubiquitous.
I found artists and songs I had never thought to in to - and fell in love with Nightwish immediately upon checking them out on someone's reaction channel, and same experience w/ T Mac.

Hey Travis - always enjoy watching first time listening to this song - one of the best live performances I've heard that's on video. GLS was #13 of 15 of the set. From the same venue, Ever Dream is another standout. I don't consider myself a Nightwish fan like the majority of the folks you'll find here (Gabriel Bardac is a great guide.) I'm really a fan of Floor's and her solo projects, which, after seeing her solo performances from her appearance on the Dutch tv show Beste' Zangers solidified my fandom of Floor and introduced me to Nightwish. I can see some confusion here. Let me clear things up a little bit.
As everyone should know by now, the Dutch people, also known as Danish, live in the country of Deutschmark located right between the Neverlands and Holland. Their capital city is called Amstelhavn (or Købendam but this is an old-fashioned name, only reserved for special occasions). They live under the sea level, and through the process of natural selection, which has eliminated everyone who was too short to breathe, they've become the tallest people in the world. They speak Danutch which is universally considered to be THE most beautiful sounding language ever, especially the northern varieties with the more prominent GGG sound. I do, however, disagree with it, finding the dialect the Goddess herself speaks more beautiful. Some people call it Brabants, but the correct linguistic term is, of course, Floorian.

I discovered Nightwish and this performance in 2015, they have become my all time favorite band and lead singer. Enjoy the ride, their catalogue is vast and impressive and no two songs are alike. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the set list in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

Their performances are amazing. Maybe check Wacken 2013 concerts opening song "Dark Chest of Wonders". Also from that Wacken show you won't find bad ones. Lead singer is Floor Jansen from Nederlands, but lives nowadays in Sweden. She has done solo song covers during pandemic seasons peak. She did 2 Frozen movie song's, Heart's- Alone song. Was in 2019 Beste Zangers TV show singing. Check those. Band is Finnish with Floor being Swedish now. And multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley Irish. Keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen founded the band in 1995. Guitarist is Emppu Vuorinen, current Drummer is Kai Hahto 2015-forward. In this performance drummer was Jukka Nevalainen. Bass player Marco Hietala, but he step aside just last year. Or was it 2021?

Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor Jansen loves Ann Wilson from Heart! many of us fans think Floor is a goddess of vocals, emotion, and empathy. got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power
of her vocals.
We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard.

Tuomas Holopainen is often called a metal Mozart, and he is their guiding. Ight. He is all of that and more, a man of remarkable intellect, passion and creativity. Follow his work, and you will be amazed and astonished at what you will find. No one creates music and tells a story as Nightwish does. No one. Having said that, there is another group of extraordinarily talented and visionary people - EPICA. Simone Simons of EPICA is another goddess backed by world class musicians. This group asks the big questions and tells extraordinary stories as well. Check out Kingdom of Heaven part 3, Unleashed and Beyond the Matrix. And if you want your mind blown listen to Simone and Floor singing together in Sancta Terra. You won't be the same afterwards.

Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.

Welcome to the Nightwish family, and our beautiful Queen Floor. Not two songs are the same, and Floor is on a league of her own. Having said that, they are down to earth humble people.
