I love it when people declare something (with absolute conviction) to be Truth (capital T). It is all about them and their ego's need for applause. I don't care if it is about music or religion or politics. If Truth, then it is not open for debate or nuance, and i am not going to waste my time with them but brush the dust off my feet and go to the next town. Who am i to disagree with Simon Cowell when he encourages performers to make a song their own?
his breath spots dont sit well with my ears. dont get me wrong Pahud is an amazing player. its just that when compare this version to some of the others, this one feels disconnected in certain areas.
ouch yet another player making up his own timing for this piece, not as it is written, Bach would turn in his grave -you just can't decide to stop and rest wherever you like especially with Bach
I got an email to say someone commented here but I can't see it here, something to the effect they thought I didn't play Bach, one of many wrong assumptions - their other assumption being Bach was open to 'interpretation' regarding timing, it's hard to believe people could be playing Bach and totally missing Bach's music, the sort of 'interpretation' they seek seems to belong to a different more abstract genre - perhaps have a little chat with true interpreters of Bach like Jean Rondeau, and notice you will not see him park the harspichord for a cup of tea between bars lol
Isn't music a form of art? And if so, that would make it so that one can interpret however they should like to, no? I personally loved this playing very much. I thought it was a blessing to the ears.
Though I don't really buy this version of the allemande (on the grounds that it lacks nuances in articulation and that timbre is too equal from start to finish), I however thought we were done for good with the metronomic interpretations of Bach's repertoire. As for Jean Rondeau, he does play with Lazarevitch on the later's bach album, I don't seem to have such an issue with interpretation. Now what is a true interpreter of Bach ? I tend to observe that most flute player having done extensive research on baroque style tend indeed to play with breathing pauses, inequal timings, etc. So ?
Это прекрасно! Слушаю Вас в Крыму !

Yeah, my favourite is Kuijken's interpretation.
