This young artist lives the music she plays. She is an epitome of young musicians discovering the classics for modern listeners. Absolute a superior interpretation of Edward Grieg's fantastic concerto.. I am fairly old and have loved music all my life. The highlight of my experience was when I met by accident Jean Sibelius on a walk in 1956.

This is my very favorite piece of music, I've listened to it hundreds of times over the years in many different formats and it always touches my soul in ways that I cannot explain. So I come back to it over and over again. It is especially meaningful to watch it being performed, live or on video. I am so thankful to Edvard Grieg for composing this beautiful concerto and adding such significant joy to our lives. I also thank all the wonderful and supremely talented pianists, musicians and conductors who have collaborated to make this concerto come to life so many times for the enjoyment of all of us. Thank you so much!

You want to know why? Grieg,s Piano Concerto maybe the greatest piano concerto of all time right up there and maybe surpassing the great Tchaikovsky no 1 and Rachmaninoff 2 and 3 !!!!!

      @@scottmiller6495No.
      Rachmaninov №2 is the best.
      Second - Grieg, a-moll.
      Third - List, Es concert.
From Chaikovsky №1 great only main theme from part one, and third part.

@@KZBPCCAIIK Very good list I agree, but I think Rach,s no. 3 is more impressive than no. 2, and don't forget Mendelssohn piano concerto no. 1, it's fabulous 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

This concerto is so well known that I can remember hearing and loving every note of it when I was just seven years old (69 years ago). If you didn't go to a live concert in those days all you could judge a performance on was the radio, an LP or a tape and finally television. But today, given the way we can see the performers, the sound recording is often so much better that a whole new dimension of artistic experience is available to all music lovers. How does this affect our ability to say one pianist, orchestra or conductor is better than another? Well in1948 I heard Robert Cassadesus play this on a French radio programme. All I could take in was the truly beautiful melodies in the three movements. Over the years I have heard so many people play it that I don't know whether it is good memory or just the love of the music which makes any comparison impossible to make. Then along came You Tube and I could see everyone. This changed my appreciation completely. Take just this one performance. The expressions on Alice Sara Ott's face as she lovingly indulged herself in something she adored made me wonder if I felt what she felt. Then there was the Orchestra, a Norwegian ensemble playing the greatest piece of music ever to come out of their country. You can see the pride and precision on their faces as they accompany a work which they could play without the musical scores in front of them. But the best thing watching this did for me was to study the occasional shots of Vasily Petrenko holding all of them together better, I suddenly realised, than any conductor I had previously heard controlling this concerto. I'm lucky that I live only about 30 kilometres from the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool where Petrenko has moulded 'his own' orchestra, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, into arguably the best in Britain. I often see him and was astounded when I realised that he was able to change into his second major role, guest conductor of the Oslo SO, and manage to make the whole work sound exactly what it is; a hymn to Scandanavia. So I went back to one of my favourite old 1950s recordings to try to picture everything, and do you know what? I just shut my eyes and the whole thing was exactly like the performance above when I then listened to that too without watching it. This is just a reflection on how things have changed, yet stayed the same, over 70 years!

Yes, very elegantly expressed, Anton . . . Our "Barefoot Contessa" is an absolute delight. My favorite piece by her is Beethoven's Choral Fantasy for piano, chorus and orchestra. op.80
      . . . here: ruclips.net/video/4I8AT3S3iRc/видео.html
The sheer delight she shows in playing the piece (particularly once the chorus is participating) is magical.

But I sense that you are telling the story as it is meant to be felt in one's heart, with honesty and sincerity. You move the listener through the music to make one an actual part of the story, Whereby I never want the book to end. You a woman of extraordinary qualities that bring synesthesia to all my senses. Alice's Grieg-piano-concerto is one of my favorites to cherish. I wonder whether the explanation which emerges if you click [SHOW MORE] , an item [Music] states that "Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen ..... Salonen" is proper or unproper for this RUclips-video. Such an explanation is quite adequate to Alice's CD "WONDERLAND," an excellent recording which enjoys an enthusiastic market reception.
As for this RUclips video, the conductor Vasily Petrenko seems to have gained some experiences of opera performance, because of a cooly efficient conducting, quite suitable for the orchestral compact pit: Decreasing movements of the upper body, instead increasing movements of the arms; one arm and the other individually. As I am most likely to get hooked on this video, I must establish a new routine to enjoy it at night time. The time of bliss. A thousand thanks to the Natural-born Pianist. (She was once regarded by a TV program as so.)

Ms Alice Ott (why isn't her name on this video) displays a superb and sensitive interpretation of Grieg's concerto, despite some opinions that this is easy to learn. I especially appreciate her appropriate body and facial motions without modern, excessive histrionics by better known musicians.

    • @dinulipati
      @dinulipati 6 лет назад +3

How can anyone say that "this is easy to learn"? Put a cd or dvd in your player and lean backwards in your armchair, that is what I would call easy.
What I also appreciate of this gracefully barefooted lady is her quick smile, her eye-contact with the orchestra.and, last but certainly not least, her gesture of greeting and thanking the orchestra before bowing to the audience.

This is standard repertoire (sadly) for any concert pianist. Ms Ott demonstrates she can play it, but few have given outstanding performances over the years. She just goes through the motions. Would like to see how she copes with the Piano Concerto by Adolf von Henselt! The actual interpretation is no different to most I've heard over the last 40 years, please tell me why this differs from what you've heard previously.

I thought this was at Disneyland--but it turns out that wasn't Mickey on the screen. Studying this concerto, hearing it played by Grieg's own countrymen, considering her silken, flowing LH, shimmering clear RH, I have learned a lot and enjoyed this video.

+Ron Coffey -- you hit the nail on the head, amigo. "Better-known" musicians are better known because of their "modern, excessive histrionics." In other words, "ear candy only" is not a good a deal as "eye candy plus ear candy." When Alice wises up and wears short, tight skirts and push-up bras, her fan following would suddenly boost up to much higher levels.

No need whatsoever, she is beautiful and elegant with no need to flaunt herself. Her talent speaks for her, her playing as beautiful as she is herself.

I think it is because she plays barefoot that she is able to produce this crisp, bright tone.
