    I'm 16 years old and I always work on small engines like this, and I know this is gonna sound crazy but it really hurts my arm and my back when I pull start my mower and my trimmer hahaha. But I found this video and have to say this is pretty cool I didn't even know you could do that with a small engine like that. I tried it with my mower and fired right up, even better than the pull start. Thanks for showing us this unique trick and saving our backs from surgery hahahaha. Good work man

      watch out for kick back from the engine when it starts, use a ratcheting adaptor at the end of your set up and no kick back that way and never use an impact or you'll snap off the stud ! good luck!

    My dad used to be a foreman for a garbage company and he'd bring home all sorts of small engines: mowers, snow blowers, weed eater and chainsaws and within 30 mins like you said he'd have them running like champs. He used to keep plugs and filters on hand it was incredible.

    Before you break your wrist, PLEASE add a drill ratchet adapter !!! I use a similar set-up to start my 14hp Briggs on my sawmill, and let me tell you that without it, sooner or later that engine will pop and snap that drill right out of your hand if you are not careful!! With the ratchet adapter even if it starts, it will just freewheel, saving your wrist!!

    • @LH-kz2nf

      What brand name ratchet adapter do you use?
      I've tried two different brand names, and neither will work for this. They both work great when you use them with a breaker bar. When I tried using them with a drill they would lock in place both ways and almost cause be to break my wrist. I found they both lock up that way once they get to a certain speed.

    Most pressure pumps don't like to be run without water to lube the internal O rings for the piston pumps. You can mess them up, resulting in low pressure.

      Still your info is correct except one that I've used many times. My boss had an old Honda pressure washer we would use to wash dump trucks and heavy equipment with. We used it for 16 yrs and it was still working when I retired 4 yrs ago. I've never seen another like it. People using it would get caught up talking to someone and let it just sit there and run. The water was still running to it but it wasn't always running through it.

    I rebuild vintage omc outboard tiller steer motors. The demographics are steering the market to electric start no one wants pull start . Most of my customers are new retired people moved to florida and the first thing they want is a boat. Electric start adds about 3000 to 400 dollars to the price of a good used reconditioned motor so i will using this alternative to the point of drilling holes on the engine cover to allow easy access to flywheel on top. Brigs and stratton makes a tool that attaches to a drill and goes into the fitting on the motor that is exposed on small weed blowers edgers etc. It has a anti kick back release in case motor speed exceeds drill speed. Looks like the days of pull starters will follow the old car cranks

    At what size engine would this cease to work? I have a 7kw generator with a pull start, which I couldn't pull when it was cold. Being in Alaska with practically 9 mos of the year being Winter, you can deduce the issue. I plan on setting up a portable propane heater to warm up the generator shack 30 minutes or so, prior to starting the gen next time.

  • @a1930ford
    @a1930ford 4 года назад +1

    Now you really need to get a decal made up that says "Easier Start" to replace that old one that said, "Easy Start." :-) What do you do to prevent any potential kickback as you start up the engine in this manner? I had thought about picking up an automatic crank to replace my pull cord-type of crank, but those are actually welded onto the shroud and you have to replace the whole thing, crank assembly and shroud, which is costly if you can even find one. I like this method and will try it out for myself on a Whipper Chipper that has a Briggs and Stratton engine on it. I had it all tuned up about 3 months back, but have never even cranked it off, due to how hard it is for me to pull that blasted rope. My arthritis and torn rotator cuff just zaps my pulling strentht.

    This is Still dangerous in that the socket might not release and cause damage to the flywheel and or catch the drill and throw it or twist your wrist.
    I did find and have, some where, a Special Socket that will NOT hang, but will slip when the motor starts and you can easily and safely remove it.
    Very clever invention. I bought it several years ago rather than replace a bad electric starter on something that broke.
    Someone probably Still make it. OR, you could get one of the cheap "ratchet type Open End Wrench set" from Harbor Freight and cut off the end that you need and weld an extension to it.
