This was a great presentation for those who are unfamiliar with Quantum Mechanics. Thanks to Shri Vaisakhan Thambi. I also wish he would do popular presentations of the standard model and QFT, and also General relativity. He can perhaps do a talk on how different is modern cosmology from traditional Hindu cosmology. Many such talks need to happen before the Hindus will be shamed into atleast being a bit more rigorous before they appropriate modern science for their agenda. Swami Sarvapriyananda says that one should not speak about the relationship between Quantum Mechanics and India's nondualistic contemplative traditions unless one is a deep expert in both fields. Such individuals are very rare, perhaps impossible to find - I personally don't know of any. Studying the advaita vedantic scriptures (learning Sanskrit, nyaya, vyakarana, purva mimamsa followed by the shruti and derivative works) is itself a task that will occupy one for 3-4 years. Doing sadhana to reach the advaitic anubhuti will probably take you the rest of your life (if you're lucky). On top of this mastering modern physics and a minimum of neuroscience to a post-graduate level will take at least a decade, if not more. So you're looking at a solid commitment of around 20 years (shastric knowledge + anubhuti + doctorate level knowledge of theoretical physics and neuroscience) to even start speaking authoritatively about any possible links between these fields. And yet, people have been ensnared by the similarities in outlook between both fields. Schrodinger and Bohr were both aware of upanishads. David Bohm was so influenced by Jiddu Krishnamurty that he was once tempted to give up his career in physics and live in service of Jiddu's ideas. Bohm, Schrodinger, and Bohr were not quacks - it's just that at a certain point in investigation, you really start to question the received wisdom about the nature of reality, and here both the contemplative and the physicist find many similarities in their sentiments, if not the content. Note to any Hindu who seriously wants to approach this subject: please don't be a disgrace like Deepak Chopra and do "baba-science". Your aim should be pursuit of truth, and not masturbation over the greatness of your heritage. Learn both the traditions - the classical contemplative and the modern rational and empirical - thoroughly. You will probably have to spend 20 - 30 years of your life to do this. Either you will thoroughly refute the meat of India's nondualistic traditions - which is good - or you will prove their scientific substance, which is even better. But in either case, this will be an epic spiritual and intellectual adventure. It'll be, as they say, a bhageeratha prayatnam.

Actually I was a brilliant student in physics during +2. I used to score very good marks too. But my teachers in physics and maths used to discourage me by punishing while asking doubts/ harassing in front of others for small mistakes..They killed my physics dreams....ba$+@¥ds
That's the main problem with these teachers. For them, everything and anything out of their scope being asked as a doubt is arrogance or annoyance for them. We should encourage these types of questions, this will in fact push these teachers to be more knowledgeable about the stuff they teach. I still remember a teacher who fckd up quantum mechanics for me in 12th, with their blatant textbook explanations. Nothing to excite the students, or to view the mechanics through another perspective. I had to go to a coaching centre to listen to a session by a college professor who cleared my doubts at that time, and planting a framework for forming doubts as well.

This was a great presentation for those who are unfamiliar with Quantum Mechanics. Thanks to Shri Vaisakhan Thambi. I also wish he would do popular presentations of the standard model and QFT, and also General relativity. He can perhaps do a talk on how different is modern cosmology from traditional Hindu cosmology. Many such talks need to happen before the Hindus will be shamed into atleast being a bit more rigorous before they appropriate modern science for their agenda.
Swami Sarvapriyananda says that one should not speak about the relationship between Quantum Mechanics and India's nondualistic contemplative traditions unless one is a deep expert in both fields. Such individuals are very rare, perhaps impossible to find - I personally don't know of any. Studying the advaita vedantic scriptures (learning Sanskrit, nyaya, vyakarana, purva mimamsa followed by the shruti and derivative works) is itself a task that will occupy one for 3-4 years. Doing sadhana to reach the advaitic anubhuti will probably take you the rest of your life (if you're lucky). On top of this mastering modern physics and a minimum of neuroscience to a post-graduate level will take at least a decade, if not more. So you're looking at a solid commitment of around 20 years (shastric knowledge + anubhuti + doctorate level knowledge of theoretical physics and neuroscience) to even start speaking authoritatively about any possible links between these fields.
And yet, people have been ensnared by the similarities in outlook between both fields. Schrodinger and Bohr were both aware of upanishads. David Bohm was so influenced by Jiddu Krishnamurty that he was once tempted to give up his career in physics and live in service of Jiddu's ideas. Bohm, Schrodinger, and Bohr were not quacks - it's just that at a certain point in investigation, you really start to question the received wisdom about the nature of reality, and here both the contemplative and the physicist find many similarities in their sentiments, if not the content.
Note to any Hindu who seriously wants to approach this subject: please don't be a disgrace like Deepak Chopra and do "baba-science". Your aim should be pursuit of truth, and not masturbation over the greatness of your heritage. Learn both the traditions - the classical contemplative and the modern rational and empirical - thoroughly. You will probably have to spend 20 - 30 years of your life to do this. Either you will thoroughly refute the meat of India's nondualistic traditions - which is good - or you will prove their scientific substance, which is even better.
But in either case, this will be an epic spiritual and intellectual adventure. It'll be, as they say, a bhageeratha prayatnam.

Actually I was a brilliant student in physics during +2. I used to score very good marks too. But my teachers in physics and maths used to discourage me by punishing while asking doubts/ harassing in front of others for small mistakes..They killed my physics dreams....ba$+@¥ds

That's the main problem with these teachers. For them, everything and anything out of their scope being asked as a doubt is arrogance or annoyance for them. We should encourage these types of questions, this will in fact push these teachers to be more knowledgeable about the stuff they teach.
I still remember a teacher who fckd up quantum mechanics for me in 12th, with their blatant textbook explanations. Nothing to excite the students, or to view the mechanics through another perspective. I had to go to a coaching centre to listen to a session by a college professor who cleared my doubts at that time, and planting a framework for forming doubts as well.
