I recently discovered Greg and my life has not been the same since! I've yet to hear him play anything that I didn't absolutely love hearing, his talent, style and technique from fineness to crunch busting face melting and everything in between an' everything he does "just makes me smile" 👍🏼✌🏼️🤘🏻
They are... i had 2005 EJ I played until it needed new frets and sold it (REGRET!) and the middle was soooo usable. Pink Floyd Have a Gigar tone instantly!
Been mesmerized for awhile now with your playing mr Koch. Fantastic gear reviews as well, you really take the time to give us a detailed and well rounded look at the equipment. Your humor is superb as well.
I think this will do well as it's the only thinline Strat currently in production, as far as I know, and the Eric Johnson signature Strat has been a staple of the high end of American production models for years. I'd get it if I didn't already have a great Strat.
One question, "where did you get that hat...I love it." Having lost my hair to chemo Ive yet to find head covering I really like...........love the hat; and the playing naturally.
I believe Roger Benedict's "Groovemaster" was a contoured, thinline Strat design with the arm contour as well as the belly contour in the back. SRV had one back in the day.
I’m going to see Eric Johnson in Baltimore on the 6th of March. I’ve got an extra ticket. Gregory kocherey should come hang out. Special seating, very small venue. Rams head live.
I’m intrigued but would really like to see a cross cut or a factory tour to see how much is routed out. I can’t hear much of a difference but it does sound good.
I love evrything about "EJ" if i could only have one of those guitars, Definitely i would go with this particular model. To have an acoustic tonal properties on a electric guitar!🎸🎵🎶💖
Greg is always entertaining and a total beast of a player. Just curious why no vibrato bar? If leaving off the string tree helps keep it in tune, then why not demonstrate with some tasty whanmy action?
Pickups mostly sound thin to me in clean mode but they do have a softened sound per the hollow design that gives them a sweet sound for certain styles. I would not call this an all-around guitar though it does sound much fuller with gain (as do pretty much all other guitars).
That's a great looking and sounding Strat! Did you find the flatness of the neck radius, something that was difficult to get used to? Probaly not, because I think you could play anything and make it sound awesome! I'm just so used to the more curved radius necks. Everyone says flatter is easier...idk??? Thanks for any help!👍😎🎸🎶
Wow, I have never seen a hallowed out "F" hole Thinn-Line Stratocaster. I have a 2010 Texas Special strat, Solid body, And a 2009, 60th anniversary Thin-Line Telecaster that has the "F" hole and all my fenders have the maple neck.. YES.
I’m glad I had a chance to hear one of these, I had been curious. The thicker woodier tone comes with a loss of the bright skank of the in between positions I am used to on traditional strats, it definitely has its own cool sounds.
Hi gang, at 4min 27 seconds, right after he says "Well, that was weird!!!", he then plays the intro of a song, and I would really like to know who plays that intro-song, and the name of the song, of course. It sounds a bit like Eric Clapton, but I am really really not sure ... Many thanks in advance ! - dan
lptomtom yes man ! Dis marketing lies drive me crazy ! For Greg the f hole makes it sount diferent. Realy? What about the 12 inch radius the diferent setup and diferent pickups? Those don't matter. It's the hole?
G. V. Quinn the damn hole don't matter! This guitar has a verry flat radius neck like Ibanez for ex. Having 12inch radius freatboard the strings saddles can be lowered down and the neck releas can be allmoust zero. And Greg said that those pickups are diferent pickups made by a diferend company. So. The sound of an Electric guitar it is afectet by the set up , the damn pickups and the scale lenght. Not by the paint or by a stupid hole. This is just marketing. Next year they will put a diamond shape hole in the guitar. And they will tell you that it sound's better becoes of that. So every year will be a diferent hole so we will end up with guitars with bunch of holes that's all. And we pay a lott for that hole. It is just a Strat with a hole in it. Buy a normal one and you are fine.
Great demo as always. It occurs to me that if I had a dollar for every time I've stated "great demo", well, I'd have quite a few dollars. And that would be okay by me.
"F" hole is just a non-starter for me visually on a Strat, but as always GREG makes anything sound GREAT! WHAT are you using to switch between the Fender and the Friedman amp?
Mmmm, this guitar seems to have lead our Greg to chase some unknown sonic ghosts and undiscovered musical beasts. It led him down mysterious paths through the ether. Paths of juicy jubilation, yes! But mysterious nonetheless....
No joke. Greg could make an original Tiesco Del Ray (pos) sound amazing....because he's that good. Having listened to Greg quite a bit now, I can hear an instrument through his playing. I don't care for this Strat myself.
The new EJ Thinline street is about $1900 give or take, so yeah I 'd love a Custom Shop for that price! I have a EJRW & it's the best Fender I've ever played. Mr. Johnson's attention to detail makes these guitars special, imo.
the only thing none of you know is that eric johnson doesn't play his signature strats the way they come from the factory. they go straight to his tech and he refinishes the neck, re-does the frets, changes the saddles and sets it up for him. it is night and day from the way it comes from the factory. if you ever have the opportunity to play one of eric's starts the way he has them done, you will throw away yours. luckily i have the same tech, so i have played them many times while over at his shop. both in before and after conditions.
Two of my faves, but actually prefer sonic blue with a mint pick guard to Daphne. Not a huge difference, kinda like surf green vs seafoam. All beautiful, and more interesting to me than the die hard red, black, white, etc. I do love the aged white (cream) color, but that immediately takes me to Yngwie lol, a bit odd for me on an EJ model.
kitoyobeni1 I like the Vintage White too...but I can't get off my Daphne Blue/Surf Green obsession. Give me those colors with a Tinted Maple Neck...Gilmour's model for example and you have the perfect finish on a Strat. I like either white or parchment pickguards myself. Sonic Blue is definitely a cool color and (as you probably know) is an option for the Malmsteen guitar. My only knock on those is the headstock, not a fan of the big ones. The jury is out on DiMarzio pups, I'm a Seymour Duncan/Fender/Lollar guy.
I'm a Duncan guy as well. Haven't tried Lollars though, and I do prefer Fender for single coils (most of my Duncans have been humbuckers (or single coil sized humbuckers, like the JB Jr).
kitoyobeni1 My latest Daphne Blue Strat has the SSL-5/SSL-5 Neck and Middle, JB Jr in the Bridge....awesome tones! I was thinking of getting the new Jackson SL4X in Daphne Blue when it comes out next month. It has three Duncan Designed Hot Rails and I was thinking of swapping them for the Seymour Lil '59/Duckbucker/JB Jr set if I do get one.
I have a mid-eighties vintage white Japanese Squier with a Lil' Screamin' Demon in the bridge and a JB Jr in the neck (but is actually a bridge model) and the stock Fender single coil in the middle. I also have a custom Warmoth strat (quilted maple blue burst) with a full size Screamin' Demon in the bridge, a duckbucker in the middle and a full size '59 in the neck. Duncans are definitely my thing, lol. Both have acoustic bridge saddles as well (the Warmoth strat has an onboard pre-amp).
Killer playing Greg! Loved seeing you do your thing on this one.
Wierd flex but ok.
Muhammed Ali Stfu
I think he makes it sound terrible when he pushes it .. clean maybe, but the rest is too polluted.
@@johannes8300 ....
yo fender, can u share us whats inside >:OOO VERY CURIOUS
"so you can do all manner of frolicking behind the nut"..." I know that sounds a little weird".......And that's why we love ya man!
"Gregory kochery here".I love this guy mainly for his playing but also for his humour. The world needs more koch!
Best sounding middle pick up I've heard on a strat
They are... i had 2005 EJ I played until it needed new frets and sold it (REGRET!) and the middle was soooo usable. Pink Floyd Have a Gigar tone instantly!
Interesting that on his Strats, the mid is wired with no tone, like the bridge on std Strats. Much more usable that way.
Greg Koch, tone master. This sounds great even over compressed RUclips.
This would be "delish" in sea foam green.
Scott Wallace Now that you mention it, I can’t unsee it and need it ASAP
Every Fender is delish in surf green
Mikey Chouest I absolutely agree....Surf Green/Daphne Blue and you got yourself one beautiful Strat!
amen to sea foam green!!
Definitely would like to see additional color options
Been mesmerized for awhile now with your playing mr Koch. Fantastic gear reviews as well, you really take the time to give us a detailed and well rounded look at the equipment. Your humor is superb as well.
These videos are always a pleasure to watch. What a great player and great personality.
Frolicking behind the nut is my favorite hobby.
Shape shifting is an awesome pitch. Kudos to the Koch-ery for a great demo.
These wildwood video's are looking really awesome guys.
Darren C thanks!
I want to see an, Eric Johnson reacts , to this video!😁. Love to see his face when Greg say “you could be a shape shifter”.
I love Greg's wit more than the guitar! :)
I could watch Greg play all day long. It doesn't matter what guitar he is demoing.
Man, does the lacquer on that neck look fantastic at around 2:06
Guitar sounds great and Gregs rendition of "Tell The Truth" is amazing !! I'd love to hear him play that all the way through
I think this will do well as it's the only thinline Strat currently in production, as far as I know, and the Eric Johnson signature Strat has been a staple of the high end of American production models for years. I'd get it if I didn't already have a great Strat.
Would love to see Greg play an Yngwie Strat and give his thoughts.
One question, "where did you get that hat...I love it." Having lost my hair to chemo Ive yet to find head covering I really like...........love the hat; and the playing naturally.
My semi for this isn't hollow I can tell you , a change while retaining the tradition, nice and easy does it
gus dupree I see what you did there
Brought to you by the monstrous hands and demented mind of Sir Gregory Cochery!
"Get em while they're hot!" Every video I see of yours sir Gregory I am just giggling like a little school girl throughout and just can't stop!
Such a great guitar.
MrStropparo been to Rams Head a bunch of times, including the ones in stevensville and Annapolis and it’s always a cool venue. Have fun with that!
If it comes with the beanie hat count me in.
You're shredding the gnar, Greg... nicely done. Great sounding axe as well.
so... are the clean licks played through the Tone King, and the O.D. through the Friedman?? what a rig!
Great now I have to buy another Strat to add to my collection
Great demo! One of the best!!
At NAMM Eric said the mid PU is not connected to the tone control. Sounds great to me.
Good Lord! GK's skills ALWAYS leave me slack-jawed. Is there any style this guy can't nail perfectly?
I’m intrigued but would really like to see a cross cut or a factory tour to see how much is routed out. I can’t hear much of a difference but it does sound good.
Amazing playing, as always.
Kinda diggin' the sound of this strat..... then again...any guitar sounds good in Greg's hands.
CRAZY MAN! love your playing and vids!
Good chops, bro. And damn you, for now I really want one.
Absolute beast mode! Dang man..
Can anybody imagine what a weapon Greg would've been for Frank Zappa???
Mannn!!😂😂
Pickups mostly sound thin to me in clean mode but they do have a softened sound per the hollow design that gives them a sweet sound for certain styles. I would not call this an all-around guitar though it does sound much fuller with gain (as do pretty much all other guitars).
Greatest guitar salesman of all time? Im sold (if I could afford it)
That's a great looking and sounding Strat! Did you find the flatness of the neck radius, something that was difficult to get used to? Probaly not, because I think you could play anything and make it sound awesome! I'm just so used to the more curved radius necks. Everyone says flatter is easier...idk??? Thanks for any help!👍😎🎸🎶
I wonder if Fender got some slightly heavier Alder.
Might scout for a used earlier EJ Model. The neck is probably the main thing for me anyway.
Wow, I have never seen a hallowed out "F" hole Thinn-Line Stratocaster.
I have a 2010 Texas Special strat, Solid body, And a 2009, 60th anniversary Thin-Line Telecaster that has the "F"
hole and all my fenders have the maple neck.. YES.
one of these in surf green with a rosewood board would be killer.
Love the semi-hollow thing, pickups don't sound too great? Definitely change out for a fully loaded the pick-guard for sure.
Saludos cordiales desde oaxaca Méx. Que bien toca este señor.
Tell the truth! Really solid guitar player here. Guitar is a beaut!
How much does it weigh ? Does it have much body resonance ?
He made it sound like a Squier tele
I was sceptical, but it does sound amazing.
I fricken love this guy, and the guitar!!
I’m glad I had a chance to hear one of these, I had been curious. The thicker woodier tone comes with a loss of the bright skank of the in between positions I am used to on traditional strats, it definitely has its own cool sounds.
Nzinn73 brought Danny Gatton to mind at the end with the chicken picken. Keep dealing guitar gristle, o great master of the Stratocaster Koch.
wow 12inch radius I want
It sounds very clean...is it a budget price around 1200? Bucks? Or is it going to break my heart...probably the latter...
I have come to just adore this cat
I need this guitar.
- dan
Eric Clapton - Tell The Truth
That gregory's one wacky dude, & way too relaxed for his own good ;) thanks for the demo !
I just watch these for his playing
This fuckin' guy cracks me up keep em' coming
will they make this with a rosewood neck? and some tasty nitro finish?
Thumbs up for 4k content.
This is pretty cool
I love that sweet little piece at 5:04
Anybody knows if it was actually a song?
Rex Charmer
Codey Geng Tanah Merah Kelantan Thanks so much!!
Frolicking behind the nut. . . Yes sir.
Cool guitar.
Im kinda late to the Greg Koch Party and it's always a delight to see a new episode. Thanks :) ,"Frolicking behind the nut" hehehe
I can dig it!
The description is as long as it is commercial. This could be summed up as "we put a hole in a Strat and added Eric's name on it"
but you need it to play that one song of eric's that everybody knows
lptomtom yes man ! Dis marketing lies drive me crazy ! For Greg the f hole makes it sount diferent. Realy? What about the 12 inch radius the diferent setup and diferent pickups? Those don't matter. It's the hole?
love it ha ha!

Silviu Stefan - you're saying we want the hole and they will make us pay for the hole. It's the oldest profession.
I cannot wait to get this axe into my hands....
As soon as I'm done watching this video I'm going to frolic behind the nut until I'm blue in the face.
Great demo as always. It occurs to me that if I had a dollar for every time I've stated "great demo", well, I'd have quite a few dollars. And that would be okay by me.
You could buy the EJ Thinline Strat even!
"F" hole is just a non-starter for me visually on a Strat, but as always GREG makes anything sound GREAT! WHAT are you using to switch between the Fender and the Friedman amp?
Scaffolding.
Let's go to that middle posish.
Is the neck a 10/56 V? Was wondering what kind of V it is or was based off of
I saw Eric Johnson live this past week - marvelous talent! Of course, nothing near the talent of the Kochery 😂
did you really just say that eric johnson isnt as good as this guy?
MrMisterMan It's called tongue in cheek my friend - take a chill pill!
EJ is a God . Greg is also one
what about the guy from kiss
Mmmm, this guitar seems to have lead our Greg to chase some unknown sonic ghosts and undiscovered musical beasts. It led him down mysterious paths through the ether. Paths of juicy jubilation, yes! But mysterious nonetheless....
No joke. Greg could make an original Tiesco Del Ray (pos) sound amazing....because he's that good. Having listened to Greg quite a bit now, I can hear an instrument through his playing. I don't care for this Strat myself.
4:26 welcome to Denver international airport.
Honestly, for the price, I'd rather just snag a used custom shop Strat. Closet classic, probably.
G. V. Quinn I don't have any money anyway. Med school is expensive... 😂
Yep. The Eric Johnson USA strat is good, second hand very reasonable great guitar
Wesley Slaven I heard it's around $200,000 to get your M.D.....crazy expensive, good luck!!!
The new EJ Thinline street is about $1900 give or take, so yeah I 'd love a Custom Shop for that price! I have a EJRW & it's the best Fender I've ever played. Mr. Johnson's attention to detail makes these guitars special, imo.

"...so you can do all manner of frolicking behind the nut." O.K. o.k....but what about Framunda the nut?
Played one during my visit to the store. Killer guitar but I'd have to knock the gloss down on the back of the neck. A hair too sticky for me.
Name of the song at 5:20?
I like it but honestly don’t hear much of a difference I don’t know the price of these but if it is similar to a custom I would go custom
Fenders are cool, but, I'm the Epiphone SG type myself.
Friken Love kochery’s playing... I said friken love kochery haha
ok throw it, but when it hits my head i turn of the screen and i grab the guitar :))
LMAO the end
What about Surf Green and Daphne Blue....those finishes are not used enough!!!
Two of my faves, but actually prefer sonic blue with a mint pick guard to Daphne. Not a huge difference, kinda like surf green vs seafoam. There needs to be a Greg Koch signature strat!
Greg has obviously spent a lot of time working on chops: pork chops, lamb chops.
Lots of chops that bring the gristle, absolutely, ladies and gentlemen.
5:02 rex charmer
I can't play like you , must be the hat.
GREG !
It seems like this one stays in tune better than the one Eric was demonstrating at namm. That must have been embarrassing for him.
