He played rugby in college. Every (defence and ST) player should practice with rugby (union) coaches for some time to sharpen their tackling skills. That would enhance their games so much and would make the game a lot safer, especially on the lower levels.

Put him in the Hall of Fame! Just because he's a special teams guy, doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the Hall. Special Teams takes guts, and is the most dangerous part of the game. Steve should've gotten that golden jacket and head bust ages ago, don't keep snubbing him.

Well it’s kind of obvious, if it’s over 20 years since he’s retired and there is no mention of him being in the hall of fame then he obviously has not made it. Even if he dominated at a position that was honestly useless it doesn’t mean he should make the hall of fame, there are players who had way larger impacts and did way more for a team then being on special teams and making one pro bowl which is a popularity contest, that’s just, no. Being on special teams and being a gunner/jammer is the equivalent of being a kick holder man, yeah they are somewhat important but they are nothing else compared to what dudes in the trenches have to go through and do. I just don’t think it’s fair, he shouldn’t make the HOF.

"A basic ass two way tackle."
Before he was drafted, the Eagles had never had a winning season. They only had one losing season while he was there, and they went to three championship games in a row, winning two. He played sixty minutes every game, and at an allpro level on both sides of the ball for 9 years. Again, Tasker is the greatest special teamer ever, and unless we include kickers like Vinatieri or punters like Ray Guy, there isn't anyone who is close. But to say that of all the players in history that, for whatever reason aren't in the Hall, that Tasker is the best, is a stretch. Easily top 7 on that list, though.

I never had one favorite player from that team because they were all my favorite, but if I was forced to choose at gunpoint, it's probably Tasker. And what I mean is, there were a lot of guys on that team that could make a game changing play out of nowhere, but other teams had great quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, pass rushers, linebackers, or defensive backs; however, no other team in the league had anyone like Steve Tasker.
Hall of Fame? I'd love to see it, but it may take a long time. In the end though, the fact that a primarily special teams player, who wasn't a kick returner, was that integral to a great team, kind of says it all.

Without a doubt the best special teams player ever. He was virtually unblockable. The reason for the Hall of Fame is to put players in who changed game outcomes consistently because of the way they played and Steve Tasker was able to do that exact thing game in and game out. He may not have the flashy stats as other positions do, but talk to the guys fielding the kickoffs and punts during his tenor and I ll bet to a man they ll say that he was the one they worried about the most. @7:30 I think this is the supreme fallacy of the mentality behind the Hall of Fame. Everyone in it is not equal. Everyone in it can't be measured by the same stick among each other. Their greatness needs to be measured among their peers in their position in the era they played and then on the level of how their play effected the game as a whole. This guy was a game changer. If defenses were watching tape and having to specifically plan for 1 guy on special teams that might be on the field 10-15% of the game, that guy certainly needs to be at least in the running for a spot in Canton.

One university rugby season i blocked about 3 kicks by the opposing 10. My teammate started calling me Steve Tasker. Never would have thought he played rugby too. Nate Ebhner, another great rugby player turned nfl player. It's an interesting idea actually. Lots of awesome athletes playing rugby try to transition to the nfl and struggle because the game is so complex. Whereas special teams are so much more simplified and really just playing.

Steve Tasker is the one man who could have played real iron man football and made a difference everywhere. Greatest ever on special teams, good receiver, and let’s face it he would have made a killer safety. #89 belongs in the HOF

As a Bills fan who came of age during Tasker's time in Buffalo, I might be a bit biased... but how is it possible that a guy that everyone knew as Mr. Special Teams is not in the HOF. Maybe this will be the year that he gets in through the Senior Committee.
