  • Hi Friends,
In this video I will be showing you the making procedure of day and night working model in a very easy way. This project has an illuminated sun and an illuminated moon model which make the project really cool. Try it for yourself. This project will be apt for science exhibitions and science fairs.
In today’s video I’ll be explaining the making procedure of our day and night model that many of our viewers and students have asked for.
This is a very simple model without any complications. You can either use cardboard or Thermocol as a base for your model. I’m using 2 thermocol pieces of size 45 cm x 50 cm. Stick the thermocol pieces and make an L-shaped base as shown.
Now, measure and divide the vertical piece, into 2 halves and make a cut-out on the right side for the night sky. You will need blue, green and black colour chart papers for the model. Black paper for the night sky and land surface. Blue for the day sky and green for the land surface.
Now measure and cut the black and blue papers for the night and the day sky.
Dip an unused toothbrush in white paint and sprinkle the paint gently on the black paper to show night sky stars and let it dry for few minutes.
Then draw moon and a few large stars. Using a paper cutter, gently cut and remove the moon and stars as shown. Now, paste a butter paper onto the back of the black paper. Now, glue the black paper on top of the cut-out.
Now, you will need led strip lights like these. Each cost about 15 rupees. Around 10 led lights will be sufficient to give good results. These led lights have sticky tapes at the back for easy installation. Stick the lights in the cutout region as shown.
You can connect these led lights to 9V batteries through a switch if you want to. I have given video links for led lights and battery connections incase if you do not know how to connect them. After installing the led lights, your night sky is ready.
Now take a black paper of width 4cms and height 45cms and stick it in the middle of the day and night sky. This will avoid the light bleeding from the sun into the night sky.
Now, glue the blue paper for the day sky and mark the location for the sun. Cut open the marked area in the blue paper and thermocol for inserting a bulb.
Now, glue a black paper for the night land surface and a green paper for the day land surface.
Now moving on to the sun, use an 8- or 9-watt warm white led bulbs. To use this bulb, you will need an electrical source. If you do not have an electrical source at your exhibition site, you can use a torch light as a sun or a single powerful yellow led light that can work on a 9v battery.
Now draw, cut and paste white clouds for the day sky and dark clouds for the night sky.
And then add a small piece of cardboard covered with black paper for hanging the earth model. Link for making the earth model, paper ball and thermocol ball is given in the description box. Now tie a thread onto a paper pin or a push pin and insert the pin into the earth model. Tie the other end of the thread to the cantilever cardboard support. I did not use any dc motor in this model to spin the earth. I just twisted the earth model manually with my hands. This will spin the earth for sometime and will gradually slow down and stop spinning after sometime.
If you want the earth model to spin continuously, tie a thread onto the motor shaft and fix the motor upside down on the cantilever cardboard support.
Now add some artificial plants. Link for making trees is given in the description box. I hope that this video would have cleared your doubts. Let me know in the comments section if you need further clarifications. Thanks, and all the best for your exhibitions. See you again.
