Very good video. I appreciate how you break things down for us. I just shared it with my crew. Could you do one on how Vent Rate is calculated and it's significance?
When you multiply the mixing height by the average wind speed within the mixed layer, you get the Ventilation Index which is a widely used metric for assessing smoke dispersal.
One of the best explanations of mixing height and the impact on fire behavior that I have seen. Thank you Darren!
Fantastic explanation. Thank-you from Australia.

What a great explanation! Big factor in predicting rx burns too I figure to make sure mixing height takes the column well away from municipalities.

Dr. Clabo? Good for you man. Hope you are doing well! Great to catch up some day!
Listening to this now as a firefighter I understand why this is so important. Thanks… is the applicable no matter what state your in even California?
I enjoyed the down to earth video from Dr. Clabo. Will these informational videos become a thing or is this just a one-timer?
I'm hoping to keep adding content. I am working on some new videos this week!
