My brother bought this for me for my birthday. I don't usually like Euro games, so I looked it over myself, but I had to give it a chance since he bought it for me, and I LOVED it. Absolutely loved it. The card play is so fun. The threat markers never seemed to be too bad to me. It always seemed easy enough to overcome.
Not sure if it has been mentioned but there was a slight rules oversight - the cost to advance up the track is the sum of all the 1s and 2s. So in Tom's example it would have cost 4. Great review though, this is fast becoming my all time favourite!
Funny that Andor took home the Kennerspiel this year, but I hardly ever see that game being played any more. Bruge on the other hand, seems to hit the table every week.
This and Nations are at the top of my most wanted list - something I didn't think possible with two Uwe games hitting shelves and a new Borg title! Oh what an age we live in.
Bruges is a top-shelf game! Love it a lot. Perfect balance between complexity, strategy and pure fun! And... it plays fast as hell. Get this awesome euro and be happy. Greetings from a "Bruggeling".
Bruges is probably on-par with Rialto as being Feld's most "accessible" game. What that translates to nowadays is, "Thematic fans can get into it without feeling overwhelmed."
Stefan Feld is the greatest designer in the world, imho of course. This game has never called my attention but I shall soon have to add it to the family.
This looks like a great game for gamers (me) but teaching it and playing it with non gamers might make heads explode (theirs and yours). I can just see some people I know asking "now what can I do on my turn again?".
Tom has made to put this on my list now with this review. I listened to that episode of Dice Tower Showdown earlier today where 4 Stefan Feld games were put against each other and for me, Bruges came out as the winner there too.
Hey Tom, you are doing a good job on the pronunciation of Bruges, the English name for the city Brugge. Greetings from Belgium
I think there's a glitch in the audio... I thought I heard Tom say "Stefan Feld has produced a winner" at the end there!
Lol

My first S Feld. A fantastic, fun game. Don't let the box and art work fool you, this is pure fun.

Error at 3:38: The cost for climbing up equals THE SUM of 1- and 2-dices not the number. So in this case it would be 1+1+2 = 4
Just saw that now too, and yep you're correct.
I have been on the fence for so long with this game. Thanks for tipping me over Tom :D Definately getting this now!

Saw a review earlier that didn't spark half the interest Tom has created. Can't wait to play it.
Yes, and it took Tom only 12 minutes instead of 18 or 20 to explain everything. I tend to "fall asleep" during Ryan's reviews.. :)

which game did it knock off the shelf?
Looks like a version of Carcassonne was either moved or discarded
You surprised me here, Tom! :)
I have to agree, it's really a fun game.
And you forgot to mention that when you build a house, you need to pay one worker of the corresponding color.
ofcourse all belgium things are great to keep :D
Or eat/drink

The Dice Tower, if you like card games, did you try Epic? It's awesome!
If I was going to try a heavier game, I think it would be this one.
Wish I could get a copy of the english version of this...*sighs*
The theme reminded me of the movie: In Bruges. :)
In Bruges Trailer (HD)
Unexpected indeed :P
