- In this episode, I’m re-building the brake calipers on my 1981 BMW R100CS. These calipers have been stripped, aqua-blasted and cerakoted. I also had the mating faces, and transfer ports machined in order to eliminate some nasty corrosion.
Big thanks to Luke at Stratos Performance for helping with the machining. Check out Stratos Performance via the link below.

Luke at Stratos Performance is a fabulous engineer and his products are amazing. I have one of his sprockets, it is do light and beautifully made.
Top Job Fella.
Wow this is great! By far my favourite RUclipsr
Your a perfectionist
cool, done a rebuilt like this on a Suzuki Bandit 600, the rubber where ticker and persuading the pistons in there was done with a clamp.
They did come out nice .🙂
Cheers John. Yes happy with the result so far.
Nice project to work on over the winter for sure and enjoying seeing your progress, keep it up. 👍🏻
Why are the pads copper backed? I thought you wanted to limit heat transfer from the pads to the pistons (and eventually the fluid)
The copper coating is there to fuse the pad material to the plate during manufacturing. When these parts are passed through a furnace, the copper coating under the pad melts fusing the pad and plate together. This is used instead of glue. The thin copper coat isn’t going to alter the thermal properties in a meaningful way.
It's just copper plated, then, got it!
