use a 5w-40 - the "winter" rating is just its cold viscosity. both when warm will act as a "40" oil with the same viscosity, it will just flow better when cold, (thats why we dont have 10w-40 FS anymore) however take it with a pinch of salt - as some older engines do prefer cold starts with thicker oil for "stickiness" and pressure. Your 5w-30 will be too thin at operating temperature, The unofficial way to drain these is to remove the filter, jack the front end on a lift and tip it out.
the 5 rating supersedes 10 dues to the call for better fuel economy at the expense of premature wear (but over the course of hundreds and thousands of miles) my Toyota calls for 10w-30 which is an ancient oil that cant be found. but the same engine on newer models evolves through 5w-30 to 0w-30. But it also states that in high temps, heavy towing, racing or constant high speed i.e. motorway or over 200,000m then a 15w-40 is used. NA to your petrol but for those wanting diesel 10w-40 Full synthetics or other exotic oils then use Delvac or HGV/LGV/PTV oils
Cant get 10w/40 in uk ? I just bought 5l 10w/40 synthetic ! its in all motor factors, internet, garages, supermarkets, every where. And there is a drain plug.
Strange that you couldn’t find 10w40 oil. I live in Wales, changed oil in my vehicle last week and Euro Car Parts, Halfords and my local Indy motor factors all stocked 10w40 semi synth. I went with the local guy, he’s super competitive on price, always cheery and helpful. Use these local folk or lose them unfortunately. Good luck with the repeat job, always easier second time around.
Just go euro car parts next time , why would you put new oil in with a old filter , better to of waited until you got the right filter waste of oil and the brand you was using is not cheap oil
First time I did my volvo oil change I drove it to the hardware store with old filter and new oil because I didnt have the gigantor sized socket for the oil filter housing lol. no biggie tho. Probably lasts for a whole oil change without changing it.
Place a Flexi tub under the filter to catch the oil. Wear rubber gloves, keeps your hands clean

Can't see the point of using a syphon pump all the harmful fine grit will be still in the sump

Unfortunately I can't find it in fully synthetic anywhere!
@@drivelife.channel If you have GSF near you they should have it, you can order online for collection or delivery.
No problem, the oil came out of the ground anyway. You recycled it
Just started watching your videos and already loving them 😀
Exxon mobile called, they are offering oil spill cleanup consultations haha
🤣🤣
Made me laugh fella so thanks! Keep going.
Why couldn't you have drained oil out of the oil filter housing looks low enuff 👍

Unfortunately the smart has to be fully synthetic:)
Great job. Little tricky but you did it nicely!
Thanks! wasn't too bad in the end! 🤣 just a shame to waste the good oil!

Oil filters add to the oil pressure and you are taking a risk
Miukumauku
@@leewatson8997 I did change it.. I do my oil every 10k km anyways and the official volvo interval is 30k
