    I've owned my Smart ForTwo diesel for 11 years, I've covered over 134000 miles in it, 80+ mpg, it copes with motorway driving on a daily basis, I will keep it until it dies, as it costs nothing to run, MoT and service is cheap, it's a go cart!!! they're brilliant

    Had mine for 17 years!! Absolutely brilliant. Best car I have ever had. Everyone has a go at the gearbox. But you soon get used to it. Love it

    I bought an 08 smart car and the wife and I love it, it does have over 90,000on the clock but it drives very well, we have taken it on our local motorway, the M5 and to be honest we were very surprised at the way it kept up with other traffic, and like you say, the revs were well in the prescribed area that we were told about.
    We have seen most of the videos of the smart and most people comment on the gearbox but we found it to be extremely good and getting up to speed on the motorway was not a problem.
    We have had our smart for about a month now, and we love it, we are planning to go to Ellesmere Port in September 217 miles, so if you see us, give us a wave, we are starting this in Somerset, and it is beginning to catch on. Our catchphrase is Go Smart. Mike Palmer

    My wife drives ours to and from work every day. Her coworkers think it's the cutest thing and love it! Normally a big SUV kinda gal, she sure does love rolling the top back and cruising around. What we save on gas in the dodge durango, actually pays for the insurance and gas for the smarty. Basically a free car.

    Love my smart car. Recently upgraded from a 2003 model to a 2009 one. Loved the quirkiness of the old one but the newer one still has some quirks. Ordered some dash pods so that i get those for it too and make it even quirkier lol.

    I think Calvin from Diaries of a Car Dealer bought the same car last month on his channel and reckoned he'd bought the cheapest one. You could have a drive and compare to see who got the best bargain might make good content. he bought his from a car dealer in Birmingham too. What a coincidence eh ??

    I can sympathise with the Potholes, Edinburgh is riddled with them! 😂😂
    I have owned my Smart For Two Cabrio 450 for nearly two months. Picked mine up in Birmingham and drove back to Edinburgh. Most fun car I have driven, only time i find the steering heavy is when i am parking into a tight space on my drive. Fuel costs for me at the minute on super unleaded is about £36 a tank and my driving is a mix of town and out of town and get about 210 miles to a tank.
    Already thinking about selling my daily driver for another Smart!

    The secret to smoother gear changes is to lift of the accelerator pedal as you would in a manual, when you think it's ready to change up.

  • @mikemaurpal
    @mikemaurpal Год назад +1

    We have just changed our Smart car for a 2013, with 25000 on the clock, and I can say with all honesty that this car is fantastic, yes we have lost the power steering, but we still have the sunshine roof, ready for a nice hot summer.
    We love the Smart brand and feel very safe in our car, road holding is very good though in Somerset and Devon the councils have no interest in spending money on potholes so that unless you want to use motorways all the time you can forget the A roads unless you are driving a tank, which is a shame because most of the A roads have some of the best scenery in this area, it's just that the two councils would prefer drivers use the motorways which they are prepared to look after but the other main roads like the A38 are a nightmare, even for normal sized cars, but for a smart car if you fall in a large pothole you will never get out.

    Fabulous cars ruined by Mercedes ownership. We had a brand new imported left hand drive at the start of the new century, ,a few months before Daimler Chrysler set up the UK company in Milton Keynes just down the road from us. When a mate drove it he compared it to first driving a (BL) Mini Cooper in the 1960s.
    It was the Roadster "Leaksters" that done for the smart (Merc built quality of the time). BMW took the idea of boutique selling (instead of traditional dealership) for selling their MINI and Fiat took the interior styling for their reintroduction of the 500.
    You can thank the Merc A- class failing the 'elk test' for the smarts' safety electronics almost taking up the same space as the fantastic Merc (they got that right) engine. Originally run on Mobil 1 engine oil from servicing which kept the engines in very good condition.
    Having owned a new MX-5 (Mk2) and a Westfield (they're the improved Caterham) at the same time as the smart I agree with you about the fun, no need for the Brabus but I've always fancied a ride in a Crossblade.

  • @ajaviation3952
    @ajaviation3952 2 года назад +6

    Had a Brabus coupe a long time ago when they were all the rage (15 years ago!)_....cheap on the face of it which is your visit to the fuel pump but everything else was expensive, servicing, parts etc. Had a stupid water leak through a seam onto the main ECU which created a whole world of hurt. And far from practical. My "tesco shopping trolley" is a £1100 Toyota Corolla. Reliable and I'm able to get parts cheap enough to keep it scraping through MOTs and not that much difference between a NA 1.4 and Turbo 0.7 in terms of fuel and far more practical. Smart is just a Mercedes gimmick and just as expensive. The Toyota i'll keep until it goes to the ground and then I'll probably switch to an Auris hybrid. Dont fall for the hype..I've realised over the years there's a reason you dont see "rare cars" on the roads...or parts on eBay!

    If you lift your foot slightly off the throttle whilst accelerating it’ll shift up a gear, then back on the throttle. Will change up in the low 2000rpms then and not at 3k+. You’ll end up doing this little trick automatically when you get used to it.

    Had one of these and got it remapped 85bhp, made it an utter hoot! If you want to find out yours has been remapped take it to a ahem private road and with a GPS see it will go faster than 80, as the remaps removed the speed limiter.

    • @Fordakias7

      @PKWeaver74 8 месяцев назад

      @@Fordakias7Thanks for this because when I saw a subsequent video where he said after the remap it pulled in 6th gear (implying it wouldn't previously) I started to assume mine had already been remapped as it seems brisk and pulls lovely in 6th, however it won't go beyond 86mph (I have a very long drive constable) it also won't do more than 40mpg but that's 5 miles each way commuting in winter spending a third of my time at traffic lights.

However, in my Volvo, I’ve simply modified my driving, reduced my mileage and made savings that way….be interested to know how many miles you both do a month (domestic and work)…
