Love this build. Remember years ago folk always putting different engines in cars. With modern cars being so complex this is one hell of a build. Keep up the excellent work.
With the ABS if you have the old ABS pump take the long code from that, could be 17 18 19 byte which is 34 36 and 38 characters. If instance the long coding on the Audi pump has less characters just add two zeros at the end to make it balance, you can do this with VCDS to match the pump to the Audi ECU. I can generate a long code for you if for instance you don't have the old pump all I need is the chassis number from which the Audi ECU comes from and the ABS part number that is on the Skoda pump. Or if you have the old pump just swop it out
With so many u tubers doing rebuilds this is proper mechanics ,what you do is brilliant it's baffling what you can do love watching the channel keep it up
This is what the VRS should have been from the outset. RS3 engine and drivetrain with Skoda practicality = the ultimate dad wagon. That exhaust also sounds amazing - a deer, woofly tone which is under-the-radar for most whilst hinting at what’s to come!
The Golf R engine in the VRS would have been enough, but VAG didn’t want Skoda outselling VW is my guess. They made a FWD 300 Cupra too which is annoying
Dan. Theres a thinwall needle bearing in the ac pulley. Mine went on my A3. Not available separately but got one from bearing services and staked it in. Not a difficult job for a man of your talents.
Doing great Dean! I'm really proud of you, because it's not an easy task. The EPS may be knackered because the car was flooded and the J500 on the rack is not fully watertight. There were some cases of water ingress we had at the factory; they just cannot be fully submerged for a longer period of time. Then again it can be any coding issue really and the abs is certainly not going to help either. I hope you can get it all sorted! I'm sure it will make you want to throw the towel at some point, but you are doing fantastic and if anyone can get it sorted, that would be you!!!! Cheers mate, all the best from Ingolstadt, Germany!
Just waiting to see you change the oil again to see how milky it will come out stil... But! Great to see a project like this getting worked on! Keep it up!
One of my favoirite projects (if not MY favoirite one): interesting how you built the VRS that never was. And interesting how many parts are kind-of "interchangeable". Bravo Dean!!!
Battery cables A long time ago when we were installing the battery in the trunk, we noticed that thicker cables were better. There will be voltage drops with longer cables if you don't increase the area of the cable. My experience. Impressive job by you.
That box that you said you don't need when you were talking about the battery relocation cable might be the fuse box for the power steering system and the abs
Well done again Dean! But what I can't understand is, if you know this to be a flood-engine, why not change the oil and filter BEFORE the first start you ever did.. That way you could have eliminated/decreased any malfriction issues in the first place
Absolutely, if it wasn’t running when flooded the sump plug could have been removed and the water drained out, plug back in when oil started coming out. Run up to temperature then change the oil and filter and no emulsified oil to contend with.
Please show the full IVA process once you've done the AWD conversion. I have a project that I'd like to do but not sure how much trouble it will be to get through the IVA.
I love the idea of this car, I currently own an 8p RS3 and a Mk2 Octavia Scout and had always thought how cool it would be to do the same sort of swap knowing how much of the chassis components they share between them in that generation too.
Really enjoying the journey on this one Dean. You gave amazing knowledge of VW Group engine and drivetrain architecture allied with first principle problem solving. It will be a brilliant motor when it bus finished ❤️😎
Run the negative terminal LIN bus cable to the battery, nothing will work correctly, your comfort functions will not work, car will think something is wrong with charging. On the same lin bus is also alternator, so you will need that
Nice Dean. Good to see progress with the project & really routing for you, that this works out as the car will be a total beast when its finished. Cheers for the vlog 👍🏻
That’s gonna look really good finished sounds lovely to dean it’s going to be a really good car when you complete everything on it good video fella thanks man!.👌👍
Insurance, are there any modifications ? Yes one or two.😁 Will be interesting to see what the insurance company's say. Good luck Dean with the rest of the build on the Skoda/Audi 👍
Loving this build Dean , will be an absolute beast when it's finished , as someone else said , this is the set up the VRS should have been from factory , can't wait to see more 👍
Most moden VAG TSI engines have an electric water pump that has an overrun feature to keep water moving after the engine has been turned off. I've heard it clicking on mine loads of times and it's apparently normal.
Glories of the Octavia, is you don’t need to touch the spare wheel well to 4x4 convert it. So you can still use the spare wheel well for what it was intended
8:40 There are two types of front cowling. I ordered one and it seems to be like yours. Another type has more space for radiators, and the bottom left and right are slightly wider (not straight). You can check and let me know if that helps.
On the Power steer check your ground wire is connected, I had that problem chased it for hours on car I had done an engine swop on and found I missed that whee connection
I remember when I was an apprentice, pulling the old V4 ford engine out of a transit van and replacing it with a rover V8. Back on the road in 2 days... 😂🤣
Tickets bought for the R32! Would love to win that! Enjoying the skoda vrs3 series, really hope you can get it all working as it should! Sounds sweet 👌
Engine management systems 🤮 the curse of anything that moves. Hats off to the exhaust guy who done that one 👍. A was wondering what it must like to get insurance for this car. Skoda/ Audi hybrid 🤷♂️.👍🏴
Hello from Ireland again, Dean. Wow, that Engine started straight away lol. Did you even turn that key lol? There has to be a lot more space under the Bonnet, with the Battery in the boot. Well done 👏👏👏. That's a beautiful Golf, Dean. But, will it end up in Ireland lol, I wonder? That would make my Year. I own a Motorbike Dealership over here and that Golf would look great, parked beside my Bikes, in the garage. We can dream lol 😆 😅. You're like Sherlock Holmes going through that engine, Dean lol. Those Exhaust pipes look brilliant. It's a Great-looking car, in White. 🙏🙏🥰👌👌👏👏👏👏👏
Loving this vrs3 build, looks very challenging, great job though Dean can't wait to see the first road test, only negative from me the exhaust tips look too far out from the bumper only about an inch, ruins the look at the back, sorry
@SavingSalvage Good, I wish my A5 had a dipstick for engine oil...A backwards step by Audi IMO...Why did they think removing the means of seeing and touching the oil was a good idea?...
Win the R32 here: competeforcars.co.uk/product/vw-golf-r32-mk4-2004/
Do the popout cup holders work? 😁
this trend of raffling cars is going to be the death of youtube rebuild content

Great progress so far Dean, that exhaust sounds the business!, cant wait to see this finished
Great project. Sleeper monster in the making.
Loving the VRS3, definitely my favourite project of yours to date! Keep up the good work fella 👍
Welcome back mate, glad to see you back posting. Here’s to at great 2025
Happy new year!

SKAUDI VRS3. Loving this built, well done so far, it's been a headache but so worth it.
The anticipation of this Frankenstein build is spot on Dean, looking forward to the finished result ...
One of my favoirite projects (if not MY favoirite one): interesting how you built the VRS that never was. And interesting how many parts are kind-of "interchangeable". Bravo Dean!!!
VRS3 content. Happy Monday! Would love that engine and running gear in my vrs estate!
Battery cables
A long time ago when we were installing the battery in the trunk, we noticed that thicker cables were better. There will be voltage drops with longer cables if you don't increase the area of the cable. My experience. Impressive job by you.
He’s got the RS3 wiring for the battery, which should be fine because vw did the math on them😄
@tonyd9 Good, I hope.
The cable used is the one used by VW/Audi for the RS3 so it's designed for that engine and chassis.
Another excellent video dean your vag group skills and knowledge are next level this is the only channel I watch without skipping parts of the video
That box that you said you don't need when you were talking about the battery relocation cable might be the fuse box for the power steering system and the abs
Great build dean loving the channel progressed so much since the early days keep it up. I’m pretty sure Ricky at RE has been a fountain of knowledge
Well done again Dean! But what I can't understand is, if you know this to be a flood-engine, why not change the oil and filter BEFORE the first start you ever did.. That way you could have eliminated/decreased any malfriction issues in the first place

All that work Dean. And it's still a skoda!! 😅
Really enjoying the journey on this one Dean. You gave amazing knowledge of VW Group engine and drivetrain architecture allied with first principle problem solving. It will be a brilliant motor when it bus finished ❤️😎

This makes sense, I did it have it in my mind to do that anyway so it was more OEM
Was going to say the same thing.
Totally agree. It's what we call at work, the IBS sensor. it monitors current both ways and temperature. Must be wired in and mounted on the battery..
I came to the comments to say the same too, it needs to be on the battery to so that it knows that what is going in/out of the battery.
Nice Dean. Good to see progress with the project & really routing for you, that this works out as the car will be a total beast when its finished. Cheers for the vlog 👍🏻
That’s gonna look really good finished sounds lovely to dean it’s going to be a really good car when you complete everything on it good video fella thanks man!.👌👍
Dean back with more great content
nice to see her finally drive. good job
That exhaust with the Daza engine sounds amazing - well done Dean, great progress! Looking forward to seeing a proper map on this sleeper of a car. 👍
Hi Dean the exhaust looks and sounds fantastic what a great job
Nice to see this coming along !
Too excited!! I always dreamed of a Golf R/Skoda, as I prefer the look but this is even better!
Love these videos very interesting to watch the engine being overhauled 👍 5:37
Ronnie's your brother?
Insurance, are there any modifications ?
Yes one or two.😁
Will be interesting to see what the insurance company's say.
Good luck Dean with the rest of the build on the Skoda/Audi 👍
That exhaust note is lovely.
Loving this build Dean , will be an absolute beast when it's finished , as someone else said , this is the set up the VRS should have been from factory , can't wait to see more 👍
This is a great series, makes a change from the usual stuff on RUclips 👍
CANBUS converter might be an alternative to fix ABS comms issue. If the wiring checks out on
Most moden VAG TSI engines have an electric water pump that has an overrun feature to keep water moving after the engine has been turned off. I've heard it clicking on mine loads of times and it's apparently normal.
Good to see you back, great video Dean!👍
Glories of the Octavia, is you don’t need to touch the spare wheel well to 4x4 convert it. So you can still use the spare wheel well for what it was intended
Not if there's a battery that's gonna live there instead
Derek would put some boombooms in there for the Warren Gs. 🎉 So let's get rid of the spare Hoosier.
8:40 There are two types of front cowling. I ordered one and it seems to be like yours. Another type has more space for radiators, and the bottom left and right are slightly wider (not straight). You can check and let me know if that helps.
Always interesting videos Dean 👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧
Yessss! Dean. Love this build. Hope you get the niggles sorted. Will be a cracking motor when it's completed🤟
"Heya guys, I going to swap a daza engine into the Hurricane"... lol. 🤣
On the Power steer check your ground wire is connected, I had that problem chased it for hours on car I had done an engine swop on and found I missed that whee connection
Man,your brave, with the amount of work you have undertaken there.give me a job.love to join in💯😁
Love this project Dean! Great fun as a practical daily!
Fucking hell that milkshake ! Damn. Good luck with the build !
🤣 so I wasn't seeing things then 👍🏻 🤣🤣🤣 🐄🐄🐄🐄
Man this is so exciting. Just getting a modern car with an engine swap driving is epic.
Great work Dean, loving this project
Nice video Dean, making good progress. On a side note,I find BG epr a very good engine oil flush ,hopefully you don't have too much mayonnaise 😂
The build that got me into this channel, this engine makes me feel things. 😅
Brilliant video Dean,
Can’t wait to see this finished ✅
Progress 👏👏. Exhaust sounds sweet 👌
That's going to be one hell of a Skoda, love this!!!❤
I remember when I was an apprentice, pulling the old V4 ford engine out of a transit van and replacing it with a rover V8. Back on the road in 2 days... 😂🤣
Absolutely loving this content and build. 👍👍👍
Awesome project! Hopefully with the new Audi models where the odd numbers get the avant- we might see an RS3 Avant with the 5cyl
You might need that battery current sensor to get the EPS to work (once you have a working rack)
Now this is the kind of project we want to see!!!!!
Great content Dean 👍🏻😉
Top work Dean, looking forward to seeing this hoon down the roads :D Also good interview with Ben Fowler, shame he talked so much 🤣
Every Octavia owner's dream conversion. This car is gonna be a wolf in sheeps clothing 🚙💨 great series
Tickets bought for the R32! Would love to win that!
Enjoying the skoda vrs3 series, really hope you can get it all working as it should! Sounds sweet 👌
Good luck!
@SavingSalvage thanks Dean!
Best rebuild channel 💯👍
Great video, as always, Dean. Not sure why you put yourself through so much pain ?
Engine management systems 🤮 the curse of anything that moves. Hats off to the exhaust guy who done that one 👍. A was wondering what it must like to get insurance for this car. Skoda/ Audi hybrid 🤷♂️.👍🏴

You need to speak to Nick at decimal tenths, he's just done a rs3 conversion with his golf r ,he's a vag tech, great video as always 👍🏻
Big fan of the channel mate, not sure of the chrome pipes on the Skoda think black would of been better. All the best 👍🏼
I agree black tips would look awesome!!
Not a huge fan of the exhaust either. Maybe the back box of a formentor vz5 will fit! Same engine!
Absolutely wild not draining the oil before starting but such a cool build! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I did, that was new oil 😂 needs a few flushes
@ oh wow 🤯! Hopefully it’ll be ok in the long run. Think this might be my favourite build you’ve done so far!
Great job and so on.👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻. I'd love to have one again😢 for sure this one would be extra🙌🏻👍🏻 but I'm from Sweden, so none for me.😢
Vanilla Milkshake comes to mind looking at the oil filter & oil. 😃😃😃
Gutted i didn't win the cupra, really wanted that little daily. That wiring looks a nightmare.
Love this kind of stuff, im in the process of gathering parts for a 4wd conversion for my car. That AC compressor is ruining the sound of the car 😂
That exhaust sounds sweet. My neighbours will be raging with me when I win this!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
been looking forward to this one dean
Gonna be a beast of a car when finished
Nice exhaust work
Dean good 👍 luck with that one 😊
Hello mate. A maxton diffuser would look good with that exhaust. Also some nice stuff on Superskoda for the car
Thanks for the tip
Loving this vrs3 build, looks very challenging, great job though Dean can't wait to see the first road test, only negative from me the exhaust tips look too far out from the bumper only about an inch, ruins the look at the back, sorry
Can’t wait for the 4wd conversion mate
Dean, great work mate loving the channel and progress on all the cars..............I will win one day 😁
Great video yet again!
Epic! Love this build!
Love this build! How's your missus getting on with her bus?
Wicked update Dean.
Yes dean is back 😊
Great video as always dean
Great video, thanks Dean.
That will be a beast, fair play!
It's gonna be a tough choice between this or the REperformance sleeper Skoda Superb
Nice work Dean.
Only thing I would say is the exhaust tips stick out too far from the bumper
Change gearbox oil, there could be water in there as well 😉
Great vid as always
Interesting video....I wish youd pulled the engines dipstick though after that test drive. See if it was covered in white emulsion....🤔😏🇬🇧
I did, and it was not, just looked like fresh oil which is a good sign
@SavingSalvage Good, I wish my A5 had a dipstick for engine oil...A backwards step by Audi IMO...Why did they think removing the means of seeing and touching the oil was a good idea?...
