    As a cheap method for better nesting without a camera you can just make a square or rectangle that's the same size as your wood stock, make sure it's on a layer set not to output, then just place all your cuts and engraves within the square, and boom your scrap will come out just like how you lay it out within the square. And if you don't do jobs often you can save the lightburn file for that piece of wood, which works best if you have a square reference so you always line up the same 😉

    Very cool! I might have to give more thought to switching over from RD Works. I’ve just been labeling the corner of my sheets with a serial number, and creating a corresponding file that has current and past cuts for that particular sheet.

      I just switched from RD Works to Lightburn about two days ago, I so wish that I had done it months ago. What a difference. I highly recommend the change. I'm still considering the camera. I guess I'm a little slower than the average bear when it comes to making change.

    So I have the Lightburn Camera, 8mp 140 degree fisheye camera. I calibrated the camera but when I burned the image, for the four corners, I tried to capture the image but it will not capture. I have a OMTECH 60w (700mm x 500mm). Any suggestions in getting past this point would be greatly appreciated. Does this have anything to do with the lighting in the room?

    With the bed having the ability to move vertically, where do you position the bed when measuring distance of bed to lid?

  • @jimcoogan1529
    @jimcoogan1529 4 года назад

    Following the Lightburn examples was not working and now I know why. I did exactly what you did. I mounted the camera so it was centered in my cut area and parallel to the bed. Lightburn did not like that. Will try what you did today including having someone to help. After yesterday I can say that would have made it a lot easier for me. Thanks for sharing.

    Just bought a camera and installing it. Just wondering before I mount.. do you calibrate with the door open? Also, each time you use the camera, does the door remain open? (sorry if these are stupid questions) :)

  • @dasfreakster

    Do you need to recalibrate every time you open the door for a new project or is it accurate enough? Asking because I'm got the same machine coming in and will most likely order a camera.

    Great video. I think I must be missing something though with these cameras, I can appreciate what you've demonstrated but I can't get past the fact that the camera connects to the computer via a USB cable. Does this not mean that you're sitting next to your laser in any case and could just manually position your workpiece?

    Amazing video. Love how precise you can get it! I just got a Neje Master 2 Max and I'm setting up an old cell phone for the camera.
    I wonder, is there a way to do this camera setup on a CNC? I have some live edge slabs that I would like to bowl out precisely. Currently I'm tracing the cut area on the wood with chalk, then using a couple framing squares to box in the area and taking a good photo on my phone. Then I'll take it into Illustrator and resize the image based on the framing squares. Next is tracing the chalk line to make a shape, then save as SVG and import into VCarve.
    Having a live camera preview in VCarve would be amazing.

    In the corners you tilt the calibration patern so that it faces the camera at right angle - is this prescribed by the Lightburn manual? If not, then it bits the idea of using the chessboard pattern for camera calibration, as this idea is to offset distortions of a wide-angle fisheye camera view of a flat plane

      @@MyersWoodshop The first time you said that it was a 140° camera. Now I'm seeing 160° camera. If your camera to bed is 660 mm. Would a 120° camera be better. 700÷120=466 mm above the bed, minimum, to see the whole thing. I have the same yellow 60 watt and just want to get the right camera the first time. Thanks Ben

    This may be a dumb question, but when measuring for which camera to choose, where do I position my bed, since it can be raised or lowered. Should I measure from the lowest bed height, highest bed height or somewhere in the middle, as it will change depending on what I am engraving?

    Great video Ben. Thanks for posting it. I know in a previous video you found out your laser was really a 50 watt instead of the advertised 60 watt; will this laser cut cleanly through 1/4” Lexan (plexiglass) and 1/4” plywood in one pass?

    • @MyersWoodshop
      @MyersWoodshop  5 лет назад

      Yep

    • @fcpakins
      @fcpakins 5 лет назад +6

      Lexan and plexiglas are not the same!
      Poly-carbonate (Lexan) is often found as flat, sheet material. The window of the laser cutter is made of Poly-carbonate because poly-carbonate strongly absorbs infrared radiation! This is the frequency of light the laser cutter uses to cut materials, so it is very ineffective at cutting poly-carbonate. Poly-carbonate is a poor choice for laser cutting. It creates long stringy clouds of soot that float up, ruin the optics and mess up the machine. Cuts very poorly, discolors, and catches fire. Per ATX Hackerspace
      Acrylic/Lucite/Plexiglas/PMMA are good to go! They cut extremely well leaving a beautifully polished edge.
