    There are still restrictions but in this video we will tell you the online resources we check every day to make sure we're up to date with new rules!
    We show you one of Lee's favourite beaches, and I go for a walk along Praia dos Tres Castelos to the stunning beach of Praia da Rocha.
    We also show you our purchases from a trip to the fresh Fruit and Vegetable market, and a great bargain shop at Lidl, with all prices included.
    I am so happy that charity shops have finally reopened, as I bought 8 new items from a great secondhand shop in Portimao for such a low price!
    Finally... check out the brilliant waste management system in Portugal! We love these Ihas Ecologicas - such a great idea for rubbish disposal in the cities!

    Hello fellow Frugal Travellers! It's another glorious week in the Algarve, with bars and restaurants open and holding their breath for the expected influx of British tourists! Understandably people are nervous to travel, so we recommend checking the great online resources we always use:
    Facebook:
    Safe Communities Portugal
    British Expats in Portugal
    and the VisitPortugal website as well!
    It might seem slightly random but I really wanted to share an example of food shopping prices AND the brilliant way Portugal deals with household waste and recycling!
    As always, we love to hear from you, so please let us know your plans and feedback in the comments below :))

      Just come across your vlog which is great. I'm meant to come to the Algarve third week of June and was thinking of shifting to next year because of having to wear a mask. Please can you confirm that if you are out walking you only need to wear a mask if you can't keep 2m distance. Thank you so much for clarifying and love your vlogs.

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад

      @@amandae6274 Hello, thank you for your lovely comment! It's always lovely to hear from viewers.
      In regards to wearing masks outside, the 2 metre rule is still in place. I wear mine dangling from one wrist, and I put it on when someone approaches, then take it off once they've passed.
      I personally wouldn't change travel plans because of mask wearing... the bigger risk could be Portugal being taken off the green list and/or borders closing, catching loads of people out, as happened last year.
      Hopefully that won't happen as I know how desperate the Algarve is to welcome British tourists - businesses here have been hit so hard and they're relying on tourists coming over the next few months.
      Whatever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful time when you get to Portugal as this is such a beautiful country!

      Yes, it was a bit strange in the beginning, getting used to leaving the recycling to one side in the kitchen. We take any rubbish/recycling with us when we go out, so it never builds up. It's a great change from having to wait for the truck to come weekly for rubbish and fortnightly for recycling :))

    Hey Frugal Travellers!
    I have to say that I love your channel!
    It’s no nonsense, hands on information that everyone needs:)
    Despite discovering many interesting destinations through your videos, (I’m from Poland, by the way)
    I booked a flight to Portugal on Thursday.
    If you could advise me how is it with wild camping over there?
    As in sleeping on the beach just in a sleeping bag, to survive the night.
    I imagine there’s some ocean spray that can be mitigated by a tarp.
    The real question is: are there aggressive patrols enforcing the “rules”?
    I’d be extremely glad if you could provide any information:)
    Kind regards and keep having fun:))))

      Hello Shiv Silverhawk!
      Thank you for your lovely comment! It's always great to get feedback from viewers, as that way we know if we're providing the information viewers need :))
      We haven't had any experience whatsoever of wild camping here so unfortunately we can't share much information.
      From what we can gather, it is illegal but I'm not sure of the consequences if caught. Over winter we saw people walking with backpacks but haven't spoken to anyone who's actually done it. As beaches get more busy it might prove more tricky.
      Let us know if you have any other questions that hopefully we can provide more help with!
      We love Poland! :)) Krakow was our refuge in March 2020 when the borders all closed, and we have such fond memories of that beautiful city!

      It depends on the time of year. I don't think there are any real budget places in the Algarve over summer, at least none that we can find.

    Are u u getting a good deal for long term accommodation?

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад +3

      Hi Paul. A great question 😀👍Between October and May it's possible to talk to the hotel directly and negotiate a discount (as well as checking the rates on Travel Republic). The rates rise over the summer months so we will have to move up north, unless every single viewer watches every single advert to help pay for our accommodation 😂🤣

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад +2

      @@paul0gb It's a very strange time for tourism, obviously. Normally it would cost way more here as the hotel would have been full from April. Even with Portugal being on the UK Green list, people still seem wary of booking a holiday after the abrupt border closures last year, that even caught out the Transport Minister on holiday in Spain! I know the Algarve is desperate for Brits to return but it seems to be a very slow process... so rates are lower than in normal times.

    I never heard of a tent on the beach before. Sounds kind of nice. I wonder if they slept in there overnight, assuming it was above the high tide mark? I imagine the sound of the waves would be very soothing to fall asleep to.

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад

      I was surprised to see the tent. I'm not sure if someone was camping there, or if it was just to provide shelter during the day from the sun, similar to the open beach tents we have in Australia that I haven't yet seen here. The tide comes in pretty high on those beaches, and I'd definitely be concerned about getting caught with no way out! 😳

    making people wear masks outdoors against all possible logic or health advice will deter ordinary folk who are sick to the back teeth of these restrictions from returning. Brits have had their jabs and are getting used to life without face nappies.

  • @gabriolinari
    @gabriolinari 3 года назад +4

    cmon, how can you put up with wearing a mask in that beautiful sunny beach???? The reason this thing does not finish is that because people still allow themselves to acquiesce to these idiotic rules.
    FRESH air, sun, vitamin D, do you really think you need a face mask?? we are thinking coming to Portugal but i have to say we are so much put off by all the mask rules that i don't know what to say.
    In the Netherlands YOU NEVER EVER NEED TO wear face masks outoodrs, and that is the guideline from the government - people in other countries need to wake up.
    I don't want to pick on you guys, it's just this is so wrong on so many levels - Even though i don't agree with wearing masks in any place, i can somehow, understand the need of wearing inside - outdoors is really a crime against humans and our basic principles to live and breathe freely.

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад

      @gabriolinari Thank you for your indepth and obviously heartfelt comment!
      First things first... as you saw, Lee wasn't wearing a mask by the sign, halfway down the steps or actually on the beach, as we were easily more than 2 metres away from anyone... more like 4 metres!
      I so wouldn't let mask rules put me off from going to the Algarve... we just make sure we have a mask hanging from a wrist, and as soon as we can't keep the required distance, the mask goes on until the other person passes... easy!
      We're used to wearing masks in Poland as they were compulsory for a while when we were in Krakow this time last year.
      For us, it's about not incurring a fine... as that would be a total waste of our $20 per day each!
      Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a wonderful summer full of sun and glorious Vitamin D :))

      When traveling to other countries, you must respect their rules and culture. If the country decrees the use of a mask, it must be respected. It is not because of protecting the airways that you will not be able to start receiving vitamin D or have fun and visit magnificent places.

    • @cargumdeu
      @cargumdeu 3 года назад +1

      its infuriating isnt it? The grim truth is that some people have gotten used to their virtue-signalling masks, others are plainly too dim to see the futility of it, and some countries are thick with compliers, maybe they have the folk memory of fascist dictatorships relatively fresh in their minds and will put up with anything. All your advice is common sense and sound but you are attacked for 'not respecting other cultures' by stating the blindingly obvious. If Portugal's culture is one of craven submission to lunatics and stupid rules then they can keep their empty resorts, I'll go somewhere sensible like Albania or Mexico. Let the mask wearers gather and eye each other fearfully from 2m away while they sip their sangria. Thats no kind of holiday for a self-respecting human being.
