🌟🌟🌟 Thank you, Denise, for encouraging me to continue to travel...I have completed the 7 Wonders of the World and 6 of the 7 continents. My remaining continent is Anarctica. I planned to go on a cruise to Anactica from my home in California in 2020, but Covid, an unexpected diagnosis in 2022, surgery and treatment cancelled my plans from 2020 to 2023. I am age 71, but still have the desire to eventually go. My fear of getting Covid in another country and a 13 hour plane flight from California to Buenos Aires to catch the cruise scares me, but maybe next year. You have encouraged me to examine the possibility.
I'm so happy to have found your channel. Your calm, dignity and grace is aspirational 🌟🌟🌟

Thank you, Ellen. I would also like to tackle another cruise, but with my compromised immune system, I feel selfish for even thinking of taking the gamble. This year I have two cousins visiting from England )one I met when I was 5). It's full on all summer but we will be staying in our little motorhome. I feel safer in it for now. But, I ache to visit England again. Sigh!

Your love of travel really shines through in this video, Denise. Is there anything you haven't thought of??? I wish I shared your enthusiasm. We have an upcoming trip this summer and I am most definitely NOT looking forward to it. As the caregiver, all I can see are all the potential problems that could arise ... not really things I can prepare for--just the usual problems that seem more manageable when we are in our own home--pain, infections, managing hubby's medical needs/devices, etc. For me as the caregiver, travelling is so much extra work and stress. I'm the driver, the shlepper of the luggage, the getter of food, the walker of the dog (OK, this part I don't actually mind LOL). Its just too much for this old lady to handle! 🤪

I always worry about Allan because he is my care partner, too. He doesn't want to take a trip across Canada because he has to drive, schlepp me around, cook and worry about me falling. Last year he said, it's just too much and I can't do it. We stay closer to home in our little motorhome and I can't sit for hours so it takes us forever to go anywhere. But if you are prepared you will do it, I know!

@@travelsinmychair4140 Sounds like Allan and I are on the same page. I'm not too sure whether planning this long trip is wise or foolish, but my hubby is determined to go, so unless something happens in the meantime, he will start making plans and reservations in the coming weeks and months. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out. 🤞

Hey Denise… great advice! Thanks! We’ve been invited on our first cruise and I really don’t want to go. My mom is 92 with stage 4 renal disease and I’m afraid she will need me. What do you think I should do?

Michelle, it depends on so many things. The size of the cruise ship. Allan and I like a smaller Holland America line and there are more older folk on board. They take good care of us. However, this was before CoVid. I get your concerns. Your mom had compromised health and a weakened immune system. However, this may be her one and only chance for one more holiday. AND, does she even want to go? These are the things to consider. Germs. But adventure, too. How to compromise. If you do go and take off boat adventures, book this time with the cruise line. They are responsible to get you back to the boat on time. If you go on an excursion not through the cruise line, something happens and you are delayed, the boat doesn't have to wait for you. I don't envy your decision to make but Allan and I are in the same boat, so to speak. Good Luck!

No, mama isn’t going! It is Steve and I that are invited. It is a Disney Cruise with our grandkids. My husband wants to go- I don’t! I think of them like floating pitre dishes too. There’s no way they get ample time to clean between boardings. That would kill me to be away from ma if something happened, but my daughter don’t understand my feelings about us either and anything I say is an excuse NOT to go. So, it’s hurting her feelings. But, my heart says stay with ma. Let them go enjoy themselves.

You have to do what makes you feel comfortable. If you worry about your mom, you wouldn't enjoy yourself anyway
