- The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues in Minecraft 1.20.4!
In this tutorial, we begin converting a Soul Sand valley Nether Fortress into a highly productive Wither Skeleton farm!
First I explain why a Warped Forest or Soul Sand Valley biome are ideal locations for a wither skeleton farm, and we cover the basic tenets of spawnproofing your nether fortress.
With that task done, we gather some snow from a snow golem, then return to the End to farm some Wither Roses using a very simple design inspired by IanXOfour: • Minecraft Elegance: In...
Returning to the Nether, we cover where to build your spawning platform, the perils of leaving Fire Tick on, how to disable blaze spawners if they're too close to your working area, and we find out how productive a single wither rose platform can be!

Im horrified and impressed by the kind of guy who'd willingly build two wither skeleton farms in the span of a few weeks
Yeah, my favorite "Pix is a beast" moment was in the original Empires series, when for storytelling reasons he walked away from everything he'd built, leaving behind all his gear and everything, went off alone into the desert in nothing but his skin, and just a couple of episodes later was already building a high-efficiency ghast farm. Because of course, when you're starting from nothing in the desert, *obviously* a high-end ghast farm would be one of the first things you'd do, that's just common sense, right?
@jonadabtheunsightly Right ?? We don't see much of it here on the Survival Guide, because its a slower pace. And while I'm a huge fan of that, I love the small glimpses of just. what he could be capable of. if he was allowed to just go and pursue whatever project he decided was fun that day
The balls on this guy, right?!
You're talking about a guy that's built multiple David's on multiple servers.
I hope down-to-earth videos like this get recognition again
Just because these videos don’t get a ton of views right away doesn’t mean they aren’t appreciated! I see this series as something people will discover over time. The first few episodes didn’t have a huge launch but they now have hundreds of thousands of views. It’s a healthy, sustainable way to keep my channel going 🙂
@@Pixlriffs glad to see that you're not looking forward to discontinue this type of content :)
@@Pixlriffs Heck, it hasn't been that long since I went back and binge-watched most of the *original* Survival Guide series again.
@@Pixlriffstakes me time to catch up with everything going on at the moment. Worth it 😊
@@PixlriffsMinecraft Survival guide is what got me into minecraft in the first place, when bored in covid times, I searched how to play minecraft for beginners. You have been a window for me into the minecraft world, be it hermitcraft, which I first heard from you, empires and other aspects as well.
Minecraft survival guide and the teacher's role you fulfill in the community is very much appreciated.
Hi Pix. I've played Minecraft for many years, in many iterations and I still come back to your survival guide series. Inevitably I learn something I never knew before, but even if I don't, I'm always entertained and impressed by your presentation. I seldom comment on other people's work but just wanted to drop some appreciation and thanks for the care and effort that you pour into your work and the many hours of value it has provided.
I love the “remakes” through the seasons of Survival Guide. As the game changes just the feeling of 4 months ago rather than 1 year ago when searching for videos helps a ton. Thanks
Thanks for making (and continuing to make) the Survival Guide series. I've been playing since 2012 but I've still learned a ton from your videos and have improved a lot since watching. Yesterday was the first time I fought the dragon in a solo world, mainly because this guide finally made me feel confident enough to do so. (And I didn't die!)
Another cool episode Pix.
It's common to see in vids builders running out of blocks.
TIP
A stack of 64 blocks covers an 8X8 area, or 4 stacks covers one chunk.
I haven't seen or heard mention of this basic math fact in ANY Minecraft videos. So, I charge you with the task of spreading knowledge of the 'Four stack chunk rule'. I know it's clear after you've been told, but everyone I've pointed it out to has been surprised at how they missed something so obvious.
Also, put a hopper under where the snowmen land, preload with one sheared pumpkin in each slot, and stand closer to the hole, it's annoying loosing pumpkins. Around the snowman hole I replaced an endstone block with snow so as to middle click pick block.
Well done explaining the bounding boxes without using a mod to show them.
Finally, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this, please join the next 'Life' series with the Hermits and Empires cast.
Keep up the great content ❤
Didn't know you can shear the carved pumpkins off the head of snowmen.
Love it 😂!
I started playing Minecraft during the pandemic during 1.16. I came across you and wattles while scrolling RUclips during the lockdown. Started on bedrock and moved to Java for 1.18. I absolutely LOVE this series!! Can’t wait to build this in my world!
So it finally happens in survival guide. Good luck! For mine I went out 4,000 blocks for a quad intersection farm, and in the end placed 70k slabs or so, with a lot being in a basalt delta or crimson forest. Hopefully yours has more lava 😂
i thought this was another episode of SOS to be extremely honest but so glad i get a tutorial on a wither farm instead :D
very much appreciate it, gunna save this for future reference!
"unbotton a nether fortress"

That is one clean looking thumbnail my guy. Chefs kiss
Great Video! Loved it Pixlriffs! Keep it up
Always a treat - love this down-to-earth approach to farms designed for single-player worlds!
That's a good point. While I'm impressed by many of the big technical builds I see, what I need is something scaled down, that I can do alone. I can do the things I see in these vids, put my own spin on them
As soon as you said convenient farm for that and quick stop at pumpkin farm I knew it was Ian’s wither rose farm. Such a great farm, his entire Minecraft Elegance series is fantastic
ooh I haven't seen the snow golem method for getting wither roses before. definitely going to use that
Thank you for the chill video to background play while I game and do house work 🤠
Nice to see ianxO4 design here. Using the same setup to make those flowers.
I had to build a fast unloader from ilmango to handle all those snowballs and flowers collected from under the wither platform. The snow production is higher than the input. Which makes this a snow farm as well.
Started this serie a week ago now im here 👍🏻
Excellent video pix!
I made a wither skeleton farm and spawnproofed a fortress that had lava lakes around it but also a lot of Nether Wastes and a bit of Chrimson Forest.
To put it into perspective how long it took to spawnproof as much as I needed to I must mention that I listened to the audiobook "Thousand Sons", which takes nearly 20 hours to go through.
I am confident that I listened easily through the entire last fourth of the book and was still not entirely finished with spawnproofing.
And I also think that I actually started building my farm when I was just halfway through the book, but I listened to a chapter or two when I wasn't playing Minecraft.
I'm a big fan of ianxofour's portal-based wither skeleton farm solely because it meant I didn't have to button or slab anything. I know that's not as lag friendly, tho
Also requires two players to operate in multiplayer, whereas designs like this can be built on servers without that issue.
I just went to get some Wither Skellie Skulls! THanks Pixleriffs!
Great timing Pix. Working on mine as well.
Use scaffolding and fire res potions to clear out large areas of lava in your world.
14:15 this is really sad!! the poor snowmen😂😂
Oooh wither skeletons!
youtube recommending me "Wither Skeleton Farm, Pt.2 - The Minecraft Survival Guide" (4 years ago) made me chuckle.
I didn't notice that part and am watching this late so I thought it was the follow-up and got a fair way in. Started thinking things like "wait has he been using the old netherrack texture this whole season?," "wait he talked about wither skeleton rules last time but didn't I don't recall him using the mod," and finally "hold on this is a completely different design -- when is this from??" XD
Best minecraft guides
Got one in the middle of a lava lake. No other spawns than the fortress. Unfortunately no double blaze spawner thou.
an amazing spawn !! sounds dangerous on first pass though
@@franziska9260i died 3 times. I play pocket.
So glad you didn't go the Rendog route! We wouldn't have seen any content from you for weeks hahaha.
The Nether terrifies me but the more I've watched you on SOS (and this series too) I am delving deeper into the biomes. Can I make a skele farm? Doubtful. Will I try? Heck yeah XD
A bit easier than on a hardcore ish server. This looks like a beast of a farm with that soul sand valley fortress 😮
some ~math~ for the folks wanting to build
The bounding box of crossroads is 19x19 (7x7 extra blocks in each corner)
hey require 361 blocks (5 stacks & 41) each to fill (so 361 netherrack, 361 wither roses, etc.)
in the vertical space of a bounding box, 3 floors with a height of 3 can fit if you go to the bottom like at 16:13
Any lower/higher won't be in the bounding box, but CAN spawn fortress mobs if on nether bricks
Starkes Video, gute Arbeit
Sticky piston to move an observer in front of another going straight into the dispenser for the carved pumpkins. They won’t place unless there is something there to receive it, like making a snowman or an iron golem. The dispenser will just click empty until you build a double high snow block for it to dispense a carved pumpkin onto the head of.
Add a hoper to the bottom of the tunnel and you’ll go 100% lossless when it comes to carved pumpkins.
Nice
Today I learned that flowers can burn.
I had made a previous iteration of Pix's farm, and the piglins that were used kept ending up dying somehow, even tho I built the farm exactly as Pix did. Hopefully, this new version of the farm doesn't have that issue
You've got this project buttoned-up...😂
Can you do a shukker farm when you're done with this one
Shulkker
I wonder after The Wither Skeleton farm can you do a Frog Light Farm next
can u duo live stream on RUclips and twitch for your RUclips viewers ?
So for some reason the second dispenser didn’t manage to shear the golem, is it just server lag?
Let’s get pix to 1M!
Good heavens a second one????
Yo, what's up pix😎
Can you make a blaze farm tho ?
In your video, Do you give tipes for bedrock addition also ?
I try, but I don’t really play bedrock edition so I don’t know enough to cover everything.
@@Pixlriffs ok thanks
wouldn't warped and crimson stem be best for boarder since they don't burn? Still no blast resistance but fire wort effect them. Also you missed a great joke in that you have buttoned up the nether fortress..
6:24 pix loads arrow to kill the wither skeleton..
The Wither skelton's Zombie Piglin Gf - Don't kill him
I didn’t even know you could make a wither sideways
Hi pix
I'm the viewer the completed the stack! 64th view baby!
Why not just dig it all out instead of putting buttons ? If i have found the same Fortress do i have to get rid of the caves under the lava inside the 128 block radius ?
The way that pack spawning works in soul sand valleys and warped forests means that there are only a small number of spawns outside the fortress so doing a large amount of spawn proofing outside the fortress is not necessary.
And while you could mine out all the blocks making up the fortress that's a very slow, tedious, and unnecessary process.
@@64bit_link even for bedrock?
@@Christopher-cr7pw bedrock edition is a completely different story that I can't speak to
If they're spawnable space, then getting rid of them will improve the efficiency of the farm, at least a little. (The larger they are, the more relevant that is.) But since the Sci-Craft server already exists, you don't need to create it; and that means you don't necessarily need to achieve the very highest efficiency possible. At some point, the law of diminishing returns kicks in and you decide that your farm is efficient enough to meet your needs, and putting in several times as much effort in order to boost the farm's rate by another 10%, may not be worth it, when you can just afk at the farm 10% longer instead. Exactly where that line is drawn will vary from player to player because, among other things, it depends on how often you're going to be using the farm and for how long. If you're trying to fill a double chest full of shulker boxes full of beacons for an upcoming project and expect to have more projects like that in the future, then you're going to care a lot more about the wither skeleton farm's efficiency than if you only expect to need maybe a couple dozen beacons total over the course of your entire time in this Minecraft world.
What is the reason for shearing the pumpkin off the snow golem before putting them into the chamber?
So you get the pumpkin back. Killing a snow golem only drops snow, but shearing off the pumpkin first lets you refill the dispenser
I’m wondering how I can change the snapshot of my Nintendo switch?
@pixlriffs As a player who if I attempted to build that I would die 600 times loosing ALL my tools, armor, and skulker boxes. As a survival guide would you be willing to cover the topics losing everything, how to recover/rebuild back up in less time, how to not get discouraged, and other things that might lower the anxiety less skilled players like myself experience?
first person to like and comment! ur vid are amazing btw
Can you do a world download
How did you trap the wither because I can’t do it I’m on bedrock
He plays on Java
Is Part 2 a victim of the computer troubles 😢?
Wake up babe, new survival guide episode just dropped.
Mom said it’s my turn to write the comment 😒
Ohhhhh I am da first one heck ye
