    The hood is Fiberglass and the body is Aluminum Alloy, the frame is Steel. I was licensed for multiple variants, 2 Door, 4 door, shelter carriers, armored, uparmored, weapons carriers, troop carriers, and in every climate possible, except underwater.

      AL might rust in contact with steel! plus , lower protection for the crew

      @@HK-uq9by there are composite rubber mounts/spacers between the frame and body.

    You have the best version. Its drivetrain was built to handle the "Soft-Skin" version. The one I drove for years was an XM1114 version. A basic rig with a spall blanket lining in the floor only and Kevlar doors, no plates. The "Wait" amber light is there to allow the "Glow-Plugs" time to warm-up before starting.

    I have a M1165, the latest variant has many upgrades over the model you test drove and many more creature comforts like turbo charged engine, 4 speed transmission with overdrive, factory air and many many suspension upgrades. Here in the US we can pick these up cheap with low miles. Mine for example is 2006 with only 7k miles on it. These are beasts offroad!

    I drove a ungoverned armored Humvee as a FO for a couple years, we called our version of the HMMWV a FIST-vee because it was purpose built for the FO role. It was a LOT more fun to drive than a regular model. They're not a bad vehicle.

    That "wait" engine light might have something to do with 'pre-glowing' or whatever it's called in english. My father used to drive a diesel car and it had to pre-glow to heat the engine before turning on, apparently the diesel used the compression and engine heat to ignite the fuel in the cilinders. I.e. his car didn't have/need spark plugs in the engine, but that might have been a Citroën thing (Citroën does/did more weird things).

      Ah very good point!

      I would bet it is related to pre-glowing or similar. Your description of its purpose is accurate too! Never seen it on a automobile before.
      My family had an old Bolens G172 tractor (a light-duty, deisel engine) and it had the same light. I can't remember exactly what my father said would happen if it you didnt wait for it but I know it required calling a mechanic so I never tested it.

    People complain about the width of the Humvee but when it was designed there were cars in America like the Ford Galaxie and Chverolet Bel Air used by police that had a similiar width.

    Only weakness i ever saw was starting the vehicle straight away meant blowing the glow plug. "Let the glow plug light go out before starting" make sure said light works first as well other than that great machine should last forever😊😊

    From what I have heard, humvees are good when they run.... Routine maintenance was often overlooked or stalled causing a lot of them to break down.

    Are we Yank visitors allowed to set up paintball on a rear mount and go after the FV 432s? This was your best video yet. Great job on the historical section.

    HMMWV are not DOT approved for public roads in the USA. That is because there is no mechanical steering link. They are authorized for off road use only. I have no idea about UK laws concerning HMMWV. P.S. I personally hated the HMMWV in the Army. With radios, personal gear, weapons, ammo, webgear. It was so cramped I could hardly breath.

    • @ArmourgeddonTanks
      @ArmourgeddonTanks  10 месяцев назад +2

      Very interesting. Luckily we can use them in the uk on the roads as long as they pass our MOT. I can imagine even though they are large they would be absolutely full of kit haha

    • @awidesigns
      @awidesigns 10 месяцев назад +1

      Thats not 100% correct. Mechanical steering connections are not required. Think of all the new drive by wire cars like the tesla. These can be easily DOT approved with just a few modifications like approved tires, working brake lights and marker lights etc. Mine is 100% DOT approved and licensed to be driven on all US roads and freeways.
