What he is talking about is the pinnacle of every spiritual tradition in the world.
It is obscure because it's a very delicate and nuanced truth about what is the nature of the self ... and I am not talking about philosophy here , but rather about a fact we , as a specie , tend to overlook.
when he said "I don't exist" , "you don't exist" ... he is right... The "me" we refer to usually , doesn't exist , except in the form of an idea...
When you say "me " , or " I " , what are you referring to , really ? your body , your brain , a belief about your soul ? all these are beliefs ...
If I am the body , why is it that , knowing the fact that the body changes every day , the "me" doesn't change ?
This "me" , is always the same , at 10 , 30 , or 70 , it doesn't change... If someone cut off my arm , the me doesn't change... if someone cut off some parts of my brain , the me doesn't change... experiences may change ... I could experience pain , or hallucinations ... but for there to be pain , there has to be a "me" who experiences them ...
The only thing that is real is the "Me" that experiences things.
That "Me" , doesn't have a name , it doesn't have feelings , it doesn't have ideas ... Rather , it experiences each one of these things.
there's the ego "me" ... the illusion , and there's the true "Me" , the subject of experience.
The reason why this is obscure is quite simple ... Seeing yourself as the true "You" , means to see your ego for what it is ... only an idea of yourself.
And we call that ... death .
Because there's no "you" anymore . Actually , it's rather because you see that there has never been a "you" in the first place.
But , there's a "You". A "You" that exists outside of ideas , because it is the one that experiences ideas.
And this "You" , when some men , like the buddha, tried to explain what it was to clueless people , became what we know today as "God" .
Some religions kept this truth , other religions completely corrupted it... islam is a good example of a religion that began with this truth , and slowly became more and more corrupted , replacing spirituality with myths.
Buddhism too... the case of Christianity is also the same.
monotheism comes from that ... and eastern religions come also from that.
Aztec religions , druidism , shamanism, they all speak differently about the same thing.

I tend to agree with the icon part, but fashion weeks are not meaningless. It's a way to celebrate and promote the work on which dozens of people worked for months and have put a lot of effort in. It's just like when actors celebrate after they release a movie on which they have worked for a long period of time.
