Crazy to think there was a time when content like this wasn’t available to drummers and Marthyn consistently and selflessly provides us with phenomenal guests like this sharing their techniques and secrets. Cheers from New York!
No offense to Marthyn but this is not a new thing. Internet has been a thing for a while. Drumeo and many others have been doing this for years. Also this is really not that selfless. He is trying to make a buck and there is nothing wrong with that. You could say that it was selfless if he posted every single content he had for free.
Travis is a freaking legend and inspiration. Around mid January 2020, I actually transitioned to playing more open handed rather than crossing over. Flash forward 1 year later of progress and I have to agree with what travis explains here. You can hit the snare harder and get better rim shots when playing open handed, and it’s much more comfortable while playing. Plus playing open handed opens the door for creative drum parts/licks/and fills. I setup a ride and a floor tom on the left side and it allowed me to get more creative with my weaker hand (left hand).
I love Darkest Hour. Underrated dudes.
2:47 I thought I'd never see the day Travis Orbin would cross his arms to play. XD
Lol for real tho
ah man, when I first started learning drums I instinctively learned open handed, then switched to cross handed when I figured it was "wrong", now I wish I kept it up!
Really interesting to hear most of his technique comes from the wrist, his blasts are insanely precise for all wrist!
Thank the lord! The best at what he does!
love travis orbin, love darkest hour
How did I miss THIS
Travis is a Freaking Beast of a drummer.
Watching travis play is like watching a Christopher nolan movie. You don't have a clue as to what is going on but its happening and its amazing
Always love watching a tight open handed player :)
After watching his "Bugz" session vid, I can conclude he is the greatest drummer of our time.
That's still one of my favorite videos of his.
OH MY GOD
