Hazel Irvine on the BBC commentary said as the rings were moving together "and their producing something very special forging a moment that will live in all our memories forever" Very true indeed!
I confess to having been an Olympic-sceptic in the build-up to the games, but I watched the opening ceremony anyway, and the Pandemonium section blew me away, with the very characteristically-Underworld soundtrack to it playing no small part in that. To this day I can't listen to "And I Will Kiss" without coming over all emotional! What an amazing night.
I have to say as I watched this back here in the colonies by the time Kenneth Branagh was standing on the platform looking up at a spectacle that must have defied description by any human utterance I wept. As an American with British roots my skin danced with goosebumps as I imagined all the souls in Dicksonian Britain grinding away kicking off the Industrial Revolution that transformed the world we live in today...
An astonishing piece of music and an epic piece of television, i still have no idea how they transformed that field into an fully functioning 3 dimensional industrial landscape its total genius and god that fifth ring crackling and glowing as it rises from the smoke and flames utterly brilliant - so crank up the volume to full and feel those goosebumps, its just as fresh today as it was in 2012 'Be not affeared' this absolutely rocks
I am Chinese from Hong Kong. But just I can say for the impact, I love the Pandemonium all the time. Industrial revolution impacted was to the race of humanity not only country. And it impacted to the time from it begin. How amazing for those lives changing our world so deep. There maybe sad during the changes, but like Forest Gump story: Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Thank you for pushing the human race forward, and hope our heart of love, mercy building the better world.
I don't know how anyone can't be totally inspired by this piece of music and the depiction of the Industrial Revolution that we saw. Absolutely monumental stuff and very, very clever.
I wanna get a vid of London 2012 opening n closing ceremony....fukin AWESOME n the songs were sick...London Olympics was amazing.....UK owns music...I still get chills in my spine.....AWESOME
I envy you my friend, being a drummer myself. I was not expecting much when I sat down to watch it, but boy.......tears of emotion were rearing themselves........loved it. Proud to be british for a change.
Sam here as yourself! 42 this year and I have never watched and Olympics! I was in the house and had the opening ceremony on... I have a truly awesome sound surround and tit blew me away! I can honestly say this is the only think that has ever happened in my life that has made me feel amazed to be British.... Its gone to another level and I have had a week of work and watched as much as I can! But the opening brought a tear to my eye!
Best part of the opening ceremony BY FAR, had me open mouthed in awe when I watched it first time and second time (re-watched on BBC iplayer when I got back from holiday in Majorca), and the music is spine tinglingly amazing
Absolutely unbelievable, completely encapsulates how I would feel about the time, and the contrast between the frenetic dynamism and the calm whistling really gave me goosebumps...
Well I have the official soundtrack cassette for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics which is basically just a collection of songs and John Williams tracks he composed for the event so I assume the soundtracks are released and yep I already knew about 2008 DVD because I've been trying to get hold of earlier ceremonies for years now but when I did a search for a 2012 DVD in order to get Pandemonium in 5.1 or DTS the only UK DVD's I could find were ones that detailed the history of the Olympics.
Absolutely fantastic music! Awesome video! Thank you very much for uploading and sharing this! This was the third or fourth opening ceremony of Olympic Games I saw in my life. But this I will remember forever. I forgot to breath a few times, so it's a wonder that I'm still alive ;).
Yes me too CarlitosWayz12, after seeing the event on TV I now really regret not trying harder to get tickets to go -respect to you for volunteering and being a part of bringing pride back to our country.
This was the greatest segment of any Olympic Opening Ceremony ever. The story it told combined with this amazing soundtrack was absolutely spellbinding.
A master piece!!! I love this song and i love this part of the ceremony!!! It was awesome. I although love Kenneth Brannagh. Sorry my english, I am from Spain!
At 42 years of age Pandemonium was the single best sequence I've seen in an Olympic opening ceremony and I've seen them all since 1984 Los Angeles, I must have watched it at least 30 times since Friday night and I think it's awesome. I have transferred my commentary riddled copy to my PC and tried to edit an MP3 of your video over the top of mine but annoyingly your version is much longer than what they used on the night so they simply don't match together gah!
hi guys!!!!! I'm looking the music from the daily roundup of the london 2012. There was every day a 3-4 minutes with the highlights of the day, in slow motion most of the time...........thank you LONDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing! Loved the opening! I love all of them! Haha makes me want to get my butt out there, train in a sport, and qualify for the olympics just so I can go! HA!
I noticed allot of underworld songs in the ceremony particularly loved it when rez was played. But i didn't know this was underworld who did this one. If you like them you should watch the Everything Everything dvd
The industrial revolution was easily the most stunning part of the opening ceremony and this track, with an amazing performance from Dame Evelyn Glennie, played a HUGE part in that. I'm normally a pretty stone-hearted guy, but for those 17mins I felt proud to be a Brit. The music alone is still so powerful, and with the images of the opening ceremony in my mind, it still gives me shivers. Truly amazing stuff!
Yes I've seen it on Amazon, very good news for us Brits though the contents haven't been revealed yet and it's not due out till the end of October (weird) however if it includes the entire Opening ceremony in True HD sound as most blue rays are nowdays then It should be superb :-) Maybe if it sells well the BBC may consider releasing an opening ceremony box set featuring previous Olympics.
Oh how I love my England my wonderful England the best place in the world...I rememeber old England wow I feel so proud....if you dont like English people dont come here to cause problems we wouldnt in your country
@@thegodfatherfriendofrocky9804 - The union flag is the flag of the United Kingdom, NOT England! And yes, there IS a difference! Nice to see another casualty of the American education system!
In my opinion, when the rings came together and rained fired, every person in the world watching this moment stopped breathing, got the goosebumps and felt a powerful rush through their body. I also think, that every person in the world watching, got up from wherever they were sitting and gave this moment a standing ovation at the very same time.
I just got told theres a vid of it just released to buy on Amazon . It's prob available out now...lol I predicted it . But , nah it was so awesome it was certain to be a vid =)
The easiest way to match your track to my video was to synch the two at the point where the remembrance silence begins however back tracking from that point the music on your track starts well before it does on the BBC's coverage of the night and ends well after the music does on my video -odd isn't it lol, I can only assume that the album track was shortened for use in the event.
I had to cut off 2 minutes of the start of this upload due to youtube having a 15 minute upload rule......may be this is the reason? Should be the same track I would imagine?
Yeah in America only and the reviews for it are really poor and claim that the DVD is in stereo only which is no different from the copy I recorded four years ago off the TV myself.
It's stupid that they are even deleting it at all, there is no commercial value to my clip because I don't have advert revenue switched on on my account and the IOC/BBC will never release the opening ceremony on DVD because they never do (oh god what I would pay to have all the opening ceremonies from the previous games if they ever did release them)
Loved being part of the Pandemonium Drummers. Big up to the other 999 who played a part in this historic masterpiece.
Me too
Hazel Irvine on the BBC commentary said as the rings were moving together "and their producing something very special forging a moment that will live in all our memories forever"
Very true indeed!
It was intense, euprhoric, dark, poignant, dynamic, dramatic. Directed by a genius.
the best opening ceremony

Hey I was one of the lucky bastards to have played this at the ceremony! :-}
Glad to hear the positive feedback - I was in this section !
A hugely emotive piece of music. Chills down my spine everytime I listen to it. Proud to be British!

I am an American, but i respect the British for being proud of their land.
Oh, and the whistle part so touching and deep
Epic, EPIC DAY ♥
I had a friend who was one of the drummers! He said it was amazing to be a part of it :)

this scene is absolutely fantastic, one of the best opening in olympic games, and the music is an absolut masterpiece
Goosebumps, 10 years on. Danny Boyle and Underworld pulled off an absolutely tearjerking masterpiece. 💖👏

A stunning and inspirational piece of music. I now have the 15 minute version on my phone after a week of searching!
I don't know how anyone can't be totally inspired by this piece of music and the depiction of the Industrial Revolution that we saw. Absolutely monumental stuff and very, very clever.
If you click onto BBC olympics on the top of the BBC home page, and then scroll down, it is still there.
I wanna get a vid of London 2012 opening n closing ceremony....fukin AWESOME n the songs were sick...London Olympics was amazing.....UK owns music...I still get chills in my spine.....AWESOME
Love this soundtrack, lots of energy power and passion, human force
This were my favorite Olympic Games! this song was so AMAZING at the opening ceremony!

Definitely the best. I was very moved at this part of the ceremony.

Let's see what the Ruskies come up with...this will be hard to top...Evelyn in the lead was sheer excellence

go to Amazon and search for 'London 2012 Olympic Games [Blu-ray][Region Free].'
Full HD goodness.
in fact 18th Aug, timing is tbc. BBC - FAQs.
I know...It's also on Amazon .I will put it on my christmas list ;P
Dame Evelyn Glennie is the best drummer I've ever heard !
Don't worry, if you've already meet her, she will remember I think so.
I have heard the whole opening ceremony will be repeated on BBC w/e of 18/19 Aug
If I had the video I would put the music to it and edit the video too to fit. I may do that tomorrow :-)
She is a percussionist not a simple drummer....

00:00 > 14:52 = Pure genius!!! however only complaint it is too short :D
Does anyone know what key signature this piece is in? I'm guessing C# Minor?
Wish i could download this from iTunes :(
Makes you proud even if you're not British.
Damn tried it again and just called it "Good times" but it was instantly blocked, very annoying lol
