I had an EMT say the same thing to me after I was in a car accident. I broke and dislocated my elbow and they couldn't give me any pain meds cause they couldn't start an IV on me cause I'm severely allergic to latex and they didn't have non latex gloves. So I was crying from the pain of a dislocated and broken elbow and the EMT told me to act my age. Rude!

The most frustrating part to me is, I was born with Spina Bifida and have been in pain 24/7 since I was 11 so I'm actually pretty tough when it comes to pain. I remember pulling out my phone to record my first thoughts of my first time coming out of anesthesia, being put into a wheelchair, being wheeled down to my mom’s car, and falling asleep on the way home. The fact that I remember everything and didn’t act all loopy was probably the craziest thing about my experience.

The doc and CRNA were champs and played along brilliantly (I think they even offered to write me an excuse note at one point lol).

I’m an RN, and people coming out of anesthesia can be so funny or very sad. Anesthesia makes your emotions very labile. Usually patients don’t remember a thing! We just support them until fully awake and aware!
I just got my wisdom teeth out two days ago and here’s what went down: I woke up delirious. I called my best friend about 10 minutes after my surgery and about started crying while I was on FaceTime with her because I was told my teeth were incinerated. I was also saying they had given me Kylie Jenner lip injections, because my lips were big. I vaguely remember yelling “MOM! We need to go see Harry Styles!!!!” I was so out of it. 😂😂😂😂😂

I just got mine removed and I was an emotional wreck. I screamed my guts out thinking I was dying because I was still plugged into everything when I woke up & then they were taking me down the elevator to my car and I thought I was getting kidnapped. I thought my cheeks were gone, that I had lip fillers & no legs. Recovery isn’t that bad other than not being able to eat and do certain things but so far no pain and I’m on day 3. Don’t be nervous if you’re going to get yours out, it’ll be ok 💖
Seeing these reactions is so strange to me because when I got my wisdom teeth removed I was only a little bit drowsy and was fully aware of what was going on. I could walk around just fine and didn’t say anything weird. I do love hearing stories about this kind of thing though. My mom told me about her’s where she was put in a wheelchair and started screaming, “what did you do to my legs!” My dad didn’t tell me about any funny things he did after the surgery but during the actual procedure, he wouldn’t stop talking. Apparently he was rehearsing his history report he had to present in class.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday, however I didn't have full anesthesia but twilight sleep instead. If you have that option, I highly recommend it! I remember like...doing things...I walked from one room to another...but I don't remember how. It's a cool experience, it just feels like that moment when you're really tired and fall asleep right away but people still want something from you and you don't understand what's real and what's a dream anymore :)

For context for those with questions: Not everyone gets their wisdom teeth removed, it depends on the condition of your mouth and if the dentist thinks it would be healthier for you to get them removed. In the U.S. (I didn't know this was uncommon in other places), there are different types of anesthesia. Commonly, getting out under or just intensely numbing the area while the patient is still coherent (not high and passed out). Many people get the option because of severe anxiety and panic attack problems. If the patient is prone to attacks, they can request to be put under. Or if you just prefer to be put under, you can be. Others don't want to be high afterwards or put under so they can just have the option to be intensely numbed. It's whatever would be best for you. I think being put under feels quicker for the patient as well. And some are allergic to anesthesia so that's also why they have the option to not be put under. Everyone has a different reaction when they're high afterwards but the anesthesia doesn't (or at least it shouldn't) last long.
I personally agree with this because when I had my wisdom teeth removed i had a full on panic attack when I got home because i was only numbed so yeah I would rather be saying dumb stuff and embarrassing myself than having a panic attack again
You get nitrous oxide, local anesthesia, but not usually general anesthesia, like they would use for major surgeries as most dentist offices aren't equipped with crash carts and all that is needed for general. Nitrous can cause a lot of these reactions, esp if you have any methylation genetic mutations, like MTHFR for example ( and no lol, it's not a cuss word) Over 80% of our population has these genetic mutations. B12 is super depleted from nitrous use, which is why some, not everyone, may feel depressed afterward.

I’m an RN, and people coming out of anesthesia can be so funny or very sad. Anesthesia makes your emotions very labile. Usually patients don’t remember a thing! We just support them until fully awake and aware!

I just got my wisdom teeth out two days ago and here’s what went down:
I woke up delirious. I called my best friend about 10 minutes after my surgery and about started crying while I was on FaceTime with her because I was told my teeth were incinerated. I was also saying they had given me Kylie Jenner lip injections, because my lips were big. I vaguely remember yelling “MOM! We need to go see Harry Styles!!!!” I was so out of it. 😂😂😂😂😂

I just got mine removed and I was an emotional wreck. I screamed my guts out thinking I was dying because I was still plugged into everything when I woke up & then they were taking me down the elevator to my car and I thought I was getting kidnapped. I thought my cheeks were gone, that I had lip fillers & no legs. Recovery isn’t that bad other than not being able to eat and do certain things but so far no pain and I’m on day 3. Don’t be nervous if you’re going to get yours out, it’ll be ok 💖

Seeing these reactions is so strange to me because when I got my wisdom teeth removed I was only a little bit drowsy and was fully aware of what was going on. I could walk around just fine and didn’t say anything weird.
I do love hearing stories about this kind of thing though. My mom told me about her’s where she was put in a wheelchair and started screaming, “what did you do to my legs!” My dad didn’t tell me about any funny things he did after the surgery but during the actual procedure, he wouldn’t stop talking. Apparently he was rehearsing his history report he had to present in class.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday, however I didn't have full anesthesia but twilight sleep instead. If you have that option, I highly recommend it! I remember like...doing things...I walked from one room to another...but I don't remember how. It's a cool experience, it just feels like that moment when you're really tired and fall asleep right away but people still want something from you and you don't understand what's real and what's a dream anymore :)

For context for those with questions:
Not everyone gets their wisdom teeth removed, it depends on the condition of your mouth and if the dentist thinks it would be healthier for you to get them removed.
In the U.S. (I didn't know this was uncommon in other places), there are different types of anesthesia. Commonly, getting out under or just intensely numbing the area while the patient is still coherent (not high and passed out). Many people get the option because of severe anxiety and panic attack problems. If the patient is prone to attacks, they can request to be put under. Or if you just prefer to be put under, you can be. Others don't want to be high afterwards or put under so they can just have the option to be intensely numbed. It's whatever would be best for you. I think being put under feels quicker for the patient as well. And some are allergic to anesthesia so that's also why they have the option to not be put under.
Everyone has a different reaction when they're high afterwards but the anesthesia doesn't (or at least it shouldn't) last long.
I personally agree with this because when I had my wisdom teeth removed i had a full on panic attack when I got home because i was only numbed so yeah I would rather be saying dumb stuff and embarrassing myself than having a panic attack again

You get nitrous oxide, local anesthesia, but not usually general anesthesia, like they would use for major surgeries as most dentist offices aren't equipped with crash carts and all that is needed for general. Nitrous can cause a lot of these reactions, esp if you have any methylation genetic mutations, like MTHFR for example ( and no lol, it's not a cuss word) Over 80% of our population has these genetic mutations. B12 is super depleted from nitrous use, which is why some, not everyone, may feel depressed afterward.
