Recently I got the new Fujifilm XF18mm F1.4 R LM WR lens. I took the lens out to shoot cinematic video, with my X-T4.
The XF18mm F1.4 lens is a nice wide-angle lens for filmmaking. The autofocus on this lens is very fast, thus I have to adjust the C-AF custom settings in the camera menu to make the C-AF speed in video slightly slower and less responsive.
I also use the Black Pro Mist filter to soften the image, as the lens is too sharp for video. I shoot at F1.4 aperture with a 67mm variable ND filter attached onto the lens.
The XF18mm F1.4 lens is also a good lens for gimbal shots. I use the DJI Ronin RSC 2, and balance the X-T4 and the XF18mm F1.4 lens on the gimbal. The overall weight is not too heavy. I use AFC and face/eye detection on for gimbal shots, and I realized the camera/lens didn't manage to nail/keep up with the focus for some shots.

Great video, are you still using the DJI Ronin or the Zhiyun Crane M2? Which gimbal is better for the XT3 for better results?

If you are using a DJI Ronin gimbal buy the focus wheel for focusing. Absolutely a must buy for this type of shots. Best

i always thought the dji gimbals followfocus isn't compatible with fujifilm cameras :o

Very useful test. This lens makes a lot of focus errors at F1.4. I wonder, how is the performance at values like F2? Thanks for your effort..
I don't see focus errors, I only had a few focus hunting issues when I shoot in dim light.

HK looks like its always buzzing. Great footage during the day and night! Btw do you always have IS MODE BOOST: ON? I just keep my IBIS/OIS on but just wanted to see your take on whether or not Boost is good to have on all the time? I liked the video and subscribed to your channel!
Thank you for your subscribe! I always have the IS Mode Boost turned on. I found the shots are more steady with this setting on, but, if you are doing panning shots, you can turn it off for a smoother panning shot.

@@calumetdarren I customised and set one of the buttons on the X-T4 to turn on/off IS mode boost. Or you can put into the Q menu as well. So you don’t have to go into the menu to look for the setting.
Beautiful video .. the xt4 still has a focus problems right?
To be honest, the focus responsiveness and accuracy are improved with firmware updates, and it really depends on which Fuji lens you use with it. I have very smooth af with the 16-55 F2.8 lens. But sometimes, there’s focus hunting issues with the 16mm F1.4 and 18mm F1.4.
Do you think this is one of the better lenses for video on the Fuji? I have the 16-80mm currently
I have the very same question and very same gear :) I own X-T4 and 16-80mm f4 lens but I want something for low light coonditions for video and also for streetphotography.

I don’t have the Viltrox 23mm and 56mm, but I have the Tokina 33mm F1.4, which is the same as the viltrox 33mm. Will do a video sharing my experience with using it

the 23mm f1.4 has the manual focus clutch, which is very useful for video shooting. The 18mm f1.4 has faster and more responsive AFC for video, which is very important if you often use AFC for vlogging, gimbal work. For photography wise, I prefer the 18mm f1.4 for the 28mm equivalent field of view, and also good for closeup shots.

nice shots but autofocus so bad
Sometimes the afc will miss focus, but it’s better than the contrast AF on Panasonic. Sony still has the best af for video, which is especially helpful for gimbal shots
