Hey girl! I'm a Career Counselor and I love watching your vids, along with the rest of your fam's! This video is great! In the most respectful way possible, can I give you some more updated info since you're educating hundreds of thousands of people? :-)) First, objectives are somewhat outdated. This is because, like you said, you want your resume to ideally be only 1 page (it takes employers 6-10 secs to decide whether they're going to continue reading). You want to utilize that 1 page the best ya can and the objective of turning in a resume is kind of obvious so it's somewhat of a waste of space. Instead, the more current section to include in that place would be a profile summary. This could be something like "Highly energetic recent university student with an outstanding background in sales and customer service. Strong written and verbal communicator who works well both independently and in a team setting." Second, you want to list your Education section first before your Work Ex
Experience if you're a rent grad. Once you have some professional work history under your belt (3-5 years) then you can move the Work section above the Education section. If you are going to include a skills section, it is best to include that between profile summary and education. So, ideally, the sections would be in this order: (1) PROFILE SUMMARY (2) SKILLS 3) EDUCATION (4) EXPERIENCE (5) VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE (this is optional). Under the jobs you list within the EXPERIENCE section, it is not necessary to list supervisor's names, addresses, or phone numbers. You just want to include your position title, company name, dates worked, city and state (optional) and then a few bullet points of what you do/did at that job. Bullet points are your friend in resume writing because they are aesthetically pleasing. :-) ....
+Cherish Gehret Also, never list references on the resume or "references available upon request." This is also an outdated practice. If references are required, you will want to create a separate page for them. Last but certainly not least, the more eyes that look over your resume, the better! :-) You want to put your best face forward when applying for a job and this is one instance where perfection goes a long way! It needs to look nice as well as use proper grammar and spelling. A few additional basic tips: only black font (no pretty colors unfortunately) and print on neutral colored (grey, white, beige, etc.) resume paper. I could go on and on with more tips to make your resume stand out above the rest but I'll leave it at these huge comments I have left! Haha. Rachel, no disrespect meant! Just wanted to help out a little since this is what I do 40+ hours a week! Haha. And if you or anybody in your family ever needs a resume review, I'm happy to help pro bono!!!! :-))
My teacher just tried to explain this to me a week ago. I didn't get it AT ALL. Rachel explained it and I got it!!! Thank you Rachel, I FREAKING LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍😍✨🙈👑❤️😂

"Achievements: I watched every single day of Josh's year of vlogging and every one of the Ballingers vlogmas videos" If that's not a selling point to my dedication I don't know what is.
@@Yancyik I did kinda lie on mine, you could lie but just put down places where maybe you parents made you work like cutting the grass say that you went and cut your neighbours lawn for money and etc. Things like that but I don't suggest lie about you working at like a different store or something.
If you're straight out of high school then put any activities you may had have, like clubs, etc. You especially want to put if you were a leader of a club or something. Employers like leadership qualities.
This reminds me that... I still to change my voicemail because it was my uncle who received my voicemail of me screaming leave your info after the beep. I wasn't too embarrassed but horrified haha

I really like the delivery and comedy within the video. I get the gist of it, put your name in bold, put some stuff about yourself on the resume like your education, your work experience, the main reason why you want this job etc, etc, basically just write about yourself professionally and you'll get the job. Thank you Rachel Ballinger, your bright, bubbly personality and knowledge of resumes really made the video great. Keep up the good work!
Just watching this. It’s a simple to the point video that helped this stay at home mom of 18 years, with not much work experience, figure out how to write a simple resume. Thank you!!!
ok so what if say you want a part time job at McDonalds to earn a bit of cash toward the end of your time at school. how would I make that sound better on a resume?
Maybe say something at the top in the "objective" part.. "I am seeking employment that can enhance my work experience, I can prove my work ethic, and offers me financial stability." Something like that would probably be ok. Hope it helps and good luck!!
These are great sections! A profile summary highlighting your skills at the top of the resume would be helpful! Never use personal pronouns such as I, my, we, etc. in a resume though :-)

If youre VERY low on content you can add a section that simply lists your best attributes (ie. organized, quick learner, enthusiastic). Love that you pointed out the importance of being concise! This can be difficult for a lot of people, but from the perspective of a hiring manager, it's so important!
Another good thing to add (especially for people with little work experience) is a volunteer section if you volunteer at an animal shelter or with a youth group or something else this shows your motivated helpful and kind and you have good work ethic bcuz you're working but not getting much out of it

That voicemail message tip is very accurate. If someone had an inappropriate voice message I took them off the list of potential hires at my old internship. Those suckers pissed me off lol

Resume.. thoughts that's when you pause something and then you "resume" it.... In the UK a resume is a CV.
Résumé, not Resume.

Résumé and resume are not the same thing... In the US "resume" means to pause then start again as well. "Résumé" is what Rachel is talking about.
