The GT3 RS 4.0 is the last of an era with the Mezger engine. It is a fabulous car. Big fan of your 3.8 though. Looks great in white.
You should 1000% do this! And the 911 R talk should be a serious thought. Both of those cars long term are absolute winners and you get to own pieces of Pinnacle Porsche vehicles throughout history. Not to mention you already have the CGT. What a collection that would be!
There's a white 4.0 for sale in Belgium for €305k (euros that is, so around 270k gbp), 1.559 km so less than 1000 miles.
can you share the link?
As cool as the RS 4.0 is, in my opinion it is crazy that it would be around £200k more expensive than your 997 GT3RS! Keep the 997 and put the £200k towards a Speciale 😉
I personally would do a Sharkwerks 4.1 engine swap on the 3.8 and keep the change. Plus I’d love to see a Sharkwerks car in the UK
To my knowledge, only 1619 vehicles of the 3.8 RS were built. This makes the 3.8 RS even rarer than the 992 ST 🤩
Very curious how did you found this number ? After extensive research i found 1450ish...
From a Book: Marc Bongers „Porsche - Alle Serien- und Sportwagen seit 1948“
997.1 RS even more rare 1106 worldwide
Was that a dig at JWW? with the orange interior 💀
I prefer your white 3.8 your car is a stunning motor, the black looses all the shape for me. Both amazing cars 🏁
This whole video is pretty much spot on. Porsche is probably the most genius brand out there and they do so much right (like being able to retrofit car play into the older models) but the recent everything is a limited edition and the dealer mark ups on even base cars has really soured me on the brand. These modern classics are 100% the way to go however, unless you want the investment car or are going to drive it hard the 4.0 doesn't make sense when you have a 3.8 imo. You also mentioned a 911R which is a real bargain these days, maybe look at one of those.
Bargain???
@@kane0508LCAC bargain might be a stretch but a few years ago these were going for 600k + in the US. I would think the 911r will rise in value in the coming years, maybe not 600k but I don’t think they will dip massively from where they are at now.
@@Jay-tc9on was that pre-touring release? I’d imagine that’s had a negative affect on their desirability/collectibility. It’s only really a true niche collectors item now the hardware is mostly shared with a series car. Think I’d rather save the cheese and get a GT product, as they all seem to stay afloat anyway.
Good video! Some good straightforward talks there 👌🏼
Cannot believe you did the “Shmee stance” on the thumbnail, you went from Steve McQueen to Mr Blobby right there.
Right ok
Mmm,220,000k more to swap personally I would stick with the 3.8 especially after all the work that’s been done to it.👍
with the money you have spent on it and its history keep it enjoy driving it and dont have to worry about its resale value. if you go for a 4.0 will be limited to miles you can run as will affect its value unless looking at an investment car if so go for it
I think it’s a good buy and worth the upgrade given the history with yours and the amount you drive it
And even though it’s a lot of money it’s a safe buy because you know you won’t loose money on a 4.0
In answer to the title of the vid...I think it depends on what your goal of it is. If you want the objectively most special "GT3", make the move, I think the 4.0L is superb. I love what it represents and the fact it was made as a "why not" exercise. BUT, it is a BIG premium on the 3.8L. For me, if I had a 997 GT3 (I have a 996.2 GT3), I'd take my 3.8L RS to the nearest airport and ship it over to Sharkwerks for their 4.1L Conversion - but that's only because I consider my GT3 one of my forever cars, and if I had a 997, it would fit into that same category, thus seriously affecting resale.
However, consider the 996.2 GT3, too - but not the RS. From a drivers perspective, the 996.2 GT3 imho represents an incredible "value" point in the Mezger equipped GT3 market. The 996.1 was the first but the .2 is an objectively better car in every way. More power, more brakes but perhaps not as good looking. I don't think the 996RS offers value at near double the price of a top, top end 996.2 GT3.
Big envy over here.
I would say that your 996.2 GT3 is definitely better looking than the 996.1 GT3. It's personal preference but I'd go for yours over a .1 (for the reasons you mentioned but mainly for looks).
@@quintennn The 996.2 looks like it's always up for a fight 😎
I’d go for your 996.2GT3 over any of the above cars. Reason being I’ve driven the 997 3.6rs and the 3.8rs. As a driving tool the 997 GT3 3.6rs was my preferred choice and something tells me the 996 GT3 is likely more raw than the others and closer to the Aircooled cars which I have. My pal who had a 3.8 reckoned the Same 3.8 was sweeter than thr 4.0litre. But I guess that’s dependent on who’s driving and what they objectively want from the car. I love to drive, not own for investment purposes as such your car is where I am firmly at
@@y0057 I've never driven any of those you've mentioned, but I guess on paper the 996.2 is the purest driving experience. The RS perhaps more so but not at double the price. Regardless, the best GT3 is the one you've just driven.
Correction: the 997.2 Turbo/Turbo S has a DFI non-Mezger engine. Last Mezger Turbo was the fabled 2009.5 MY with the 480hp engine. The 500hp Turbos are non-Mezgers
Hmmm
Also, the .2 lost the manual option.
@@Vonstroke last manual Turbo was the 2010 997.2 Turbo
I don’t know. Usually I am like yes or no, I do ADORE the 4.0 but it doesn’t make me smile as much as the 3.8. But it’s an epic car. Absolutely insane
Definitley consider an upgrade to a 4.0 but not that black one. Not loving that spec.
997 4.0 extra bits included Perspex side windows, aluminium doors and carbon bonnet as well as the carbon wings you mentioned.
Forgot to mention them. Whoops
Any Porsche is a good Porsche, and I'd take a LHD or even none runner to get into one.
This is the video I’ve been waiting for the 4.0!!
Great cars at Octane, love 997's as well!
Either way you will be happy , keep your fab car or get another fab RS , in sure either car is a great decision
can you source a 4 liter engine? if u can then consider replacing the engine considering your car 's history then u will have the best of both worlds
911 R has an inferior engine to the GT3. From an investment perspective due to the way new special editions are sold out before they are announced regardless how naf they are (Nanny’s Targa…I think Shmee said he wanted one) it probably makes sense but from a driver, probably just a normal GT3
Can you please stop promoting the 997…I’m in the market and really prefer they not continue to climb in price until I get one. Thanks. 😂
Would you want a white 4.0 litre in similar spec to your 3.8 or would you go for something completely different
I would keep the one you have it looks stonking and the steering wheel is on the correct side which has to be a good thing👍☹️
Sounds like some of the references in the video have a lot of Logic behind them
You have no idea and neither would 99.9% of the population. Basically, you saved a ton of money by buying the “standard” GT3RS and the majority of us would not know the difference and just be over the moon that they have a 997 GT3RS as it is, without a doubt, a definite appreciating car.
4.0l engines tend to blow up...gotta be careful on which one you buy
A good one, thx, Adam/Tofino
I think I need a cold shower

4.0 is phenomenal but overpriced. I was more than satisfied using my 3.8 as a daily and a track toy. Wish i never sold it.
Keep the 3.8 and put the money in to a Ruf.
Probably one of the greatest engines ever made, didn't exceed 3000 rpm
Well it’s not my car & I’m on public roads. Go to another channel if you want to see illegal immoral driving 🙌
Thing is you can drive and enjoy your car, can’t do that with a million quid 4 litre!
Keep yours (get the 4.0 separately 😂)
What ever you do Tom both look sick and you will make the right decision
No question the 4.0 is a legend, but it’s cursed by the value. You’re not going to put 5-10k miles/year on it, too risky. Drive the wheels off the 3.8 guilt free.
which one is better? the 3.8L or the 4.0L?
What year was the 4.0 manufactured
And what year was the 3.8 manufactured
Is the 4.0 basically a facelift ?
If that 4.0 is a mill then what the hell is the CGT worth?
I’d stick with yours looks great and put the extra cash in something else
I'd keep yours and throw a 550hp 4.1 cup engine and call it a day
Do it Tom like them both but looks a good upgrade 😊
997 GT3RS is the one
Can you do a OEM PCM Retrofit to a 981 GT4 so you can have carplay?
Prefer yours in the white ! ❤
Please don't. 4.0 is super cool but they're just collector pieces now.
That's all he's interested in.
A mate and I used to call that the tosser clock.
If you can, DO IT!!
What are your thoughts on a 718 spyder? Would you consider one?
Love them!!
Mr.JWW is being picked on by two guys in an RS 4.0 ☻
Cars aside, you are a handsome chap!
Nice brief man you must have more cash than a cows got c**t good work
Your parents must be so proud of you 🙄
watch check Tom
I like your 3.8 better Tom
What’s the BHP on your 3.8 … no idea WTF every car guy knows the power, torque, 0-60, 0-100 come on man! 😂
Struggled with audio on this one tge 👍
Which bits & how?
@@TGE in the car test drive Tom usually fantastic throughout thanks for reply alway enjoy 👍
F*ck it, why not?
£200k for an extra 200cc so that’s £100k per 100cc 😁
Thanks for breaking that down for me i was struggling
If it were me, I'd keep the 3.8 and not worry about putting miles on it. But you're not me, you're way smarter
Nah, don't do it or else 😂
You are not a driver. Your cars are bought with profit in mind and you're not interested in viewers opinions in the slightest. Just be a a little more honest.
Wishy washy slob comment. Bye bye
Why? Got to 16.40 & gave up. I cannot stand simps.
What are you talking about, loser?
