My son is going to Grayson College this Fall. LHP - He hit it off great with Coach Hart and is super excited. They have a great legacy in JUCO baseball ⚾️!
Thank you for this. I am an administrator for a travel program in FL, working hard to get these boys informed on all of their options. We are a title 1 district, so I know $ is a factor and this video will help me sway some minds.
So then in some cases you really might not get a fair shake at a Juco either so you have to pick that wisely and figure out if they "truly " develop or just recruit studs! and unhappy D1 Studs every year, it's a difference.
San Jac can recruit just as well as a power 5, they are the stud landing spot for those looking to move up a few rounds in the draft. Not your typical juco, same for McLennan.
I haven't been able to find good information about the divisions within NJCAA. Are the DII and DIII JUCOs just as competitive as DI? Or should you avoid the lower divisions if you have big aspirations?
Yes - D1 jucos can be as good as many D1 teams. D3 jucos can be hardly better than a high school team. But it really depends on the school and location. Go on a team by team basis. If you sit the bench very long at a JUCO, your career will quickly come to an end after 2 years there - so you need to go somewhere you’ll have a strong chance of getting playing time.
Thanks for the video...what do you think about a kid that wants to play ball, maybe isn't D1 ready, but academically is top notch? Would get full academic scholarships at most D1 programs, but wants to play baseball. Is it better to go to an academic D3 or Ivy League? His athletic goals aren't professional baseball, it is to keep having fun playing ball. As a parent, I think paying big $$$ for undergrad is stupid, so a partial athletic that isn't augmented with a full academic to an Ivy is a bad idea.
D3 will check most of his boxes if D1 isn't an option and he doesn't mind if he doesn't turn pro. Also, some majors (engineering, physics, biochem, etc.) are unrealistic while also playing D1 baseball, or may not work outright, which is another reason some high-academics choose D3. I mentioned this in my recent "Wrong for You" video about D1 baseball. Ivy League is D1 and no scholarships...hard to justify financially for undergrad, in my opinion.
@@DanBlewett That's good info, as always. Does D3 play a shorter season due to the academics? He wants to go to medical school. I appreciate your insights.
They do. D3 has a significantly less dense fall schedule - they tend to start later, have fewer practices and many shut down after thanksgiving. This varies program by program but generally it's not nearly as dense and rigorous as all the other levels. And the spring schedule is 35-40 games. Emory University, for example. was 25-13 in 2022. A great school and very strong D3 program. D1 plays 56 in the spring and practices or has games 6 days a week year-round. No D1 program practices less because it makes them less competitive.

Just ask Albert Pujols how JUCO baseball work for him. Nothing wrong with a good Juco program.
using outliers like Pujols is not a good rule of thumb, however
Trevor Stephan for the Indians is a better example, Hill College to Arkansas
before even watching the video YES juco route is a A++ route. free school, playtime, and draft eligibility.
yeah except most JUCO programs are not an A or even B experience for most. Draft eligibility is a minor concern. Don't oversell it. Its an option.
Exactly alot of Juco's have D1 Rejects Mainly San Jac! I live in Texas
yeah, a lot of people dont realize that that pipeline of kids bouncing out of D1s is what can make some JUCOs strong.

Excellent info. Ty
You bet!
I think ima just go into trade school
78-81 and went D1? I was 88-92 my senior year and I went juco lol .
Go where to can play...PERIOD
many players have multiple options.
Is it still possible to get places with a d2 or d3 school or is d1 the only one where you have a real shot at showing what u got to scouts
the vast majority of MLB draft picks come from D1 schools.

Do D1 scouts watch JUCO games?
Not really no only if they know someone they want to see is playing
How did you like living on Long Island?
I dont have strong feelings about it. Not a place I would choose to live - not a suburbs person.
If your grades suck .... do you really want to play college baseball?
that questions makes zero sense

I love your videos but the audio is way too low, especially with your soft voice. Please raise the audio level a bit please.
the audio is plenty loud enough, gonna assume you're either making a weird joke or have legitimate hearing loss.
@@DanBlewett No, the criticism was sincere, but thanks for the asshole reply.
No but really - the gain level of the audio is plenty strong enough; it's not the video, it's you.
