  • 2022 Subaru Wrx real world miles per gallon. Road trip from southwest Arizona to New Mexico. Rain for half of the trip. A subie decides to floor it next to me! Famous Stars are delicious! Shocking results?!!! Or exactly as expected?
    Nobody buys a WRX for MPG’s but dont you still want to know real world MPG’s. Yes of course you do.

    Dash reads 6% high on both my VA and VB. Have to fill and calculate. That being said, I regularly get 28mpg with both cars. Mostly thruway around 70mph.

      I think he was averaging so low because a lot of times he was going well over 80mph

    Manual will always beat auto. Even the CVT. It all depends on how you drive, though. I get a better MPG than my wife's Outback XT.
    I had a kia Forte GT MT that got only a slightly better MPG than the WRX. Considering the WRX is a much bigger engine and has AWD, I'm impressed.
    People are hating on MPG of the WRX. Personally, they are looking for excuses to explain why they are too wimpy (insert better word that would be sensorred here) to get one.

    In my 21 manual. I can get about 280-300 miles before I’m empty. That’s a mix of city and highway driving.

      @@chrisg5101 that's pretty amazing... you would think Subaru would really attempt to highlight / advertise that... I would go and do a test drive on a 2022 BUT I know I couldn't do a CVT... so the 5-speed gets not nearly as good mileage at 70 mph I'm assuming ? I want to feel how the new motor is different from the 2016

    If I am on flat ground going 65mph on highway I will get 36.5mpg here in Arizona. (flat ground)
    I get 18 to 20 in city.
    The most amazing thing about this car is that there is no lag with AC on.

    • @raiderfan367

      I agree, AC on or not the car still feels like it has plenty of linear HP and torque.

    I love the 22 WRX, but I think the MPG of this car is a pretty big letdown. Subaru made that fantastic new 2.4 and the fact that the MPG hasn't improved in... 20 years shows the drivetrain is the culprit. Too many big gears spinning, I guess. I have a VW Alltrack now, with a big turbo. Stock or not on a similar trip I would get 32 with lots of stops and screwing around; 34 with fewer stops. And 37 if my average was around 70. The Alltrack uses the Haldex system, which disconnects the rear diff most of the time. The haldex system isn't nearly as competent in sport driving, but it does just fine in snow, rain, and jackrabbit starts. I do miss the Subi experience sometimes. I AM jealous... just wish the mpg was better with gas so expensive.

    • @raiderfan367
      @raiderfan367  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I hear you. I did a similar trip in my old 2009 Altima and it only averaged 24.1 mpg, so to me the Subie did well in comparison but I understand that by no means is it a gas saver. It was still a very comfortable drive that I fully enjoyed despite the bad weather.

      @@raiderfan367 Curious what tire pressures you are running? When I picked mine up at the dealer, they were up around 40 psi. I let it out to around 30, and the ride is much better and the handling seems more planted as well. Just wonder if the higher psi would improve mpg haha.

  • @Painting_Inspiration

    What gear were you driving in? The revs seem high. You should be in 6th to get the best mpg......

    • @raiderfan367
      @raiderfan367  2 года назад +2

      I was in 6th gear, and mostly in cruise control set to about 82mph. I could have easily increased my mpg’s by slowing down to be honest.

      @@raiderfan367 Thanks for sharing man! I have the exact same car. It was in the shop for 5 weeks just after I bought it for fuel pump failure. Now I've got about 2000 miles on it and looking forward to a road trip. I agree, the revs at freeway speeds are too high, especially considering all that torque is available just above 2000 rpm, no reason for highway speeds to be at 3000+! But alas, it is a fun car. Just would love to have a much taller 6th gear! Enjoy your new REX! :-)

      That sounds way too low. Unless you’re on the track 24-7. Maybe your gauge is off. Try filling up the tank and seeing how many miles you can go before empty. That will give you an accurate mpg.
