The Bridge Wars was one of the first ever hip hop beefs as well as one of the longest lasting ones with multiple diss tracks sent back and forth. What's some of your favorite songs from this beef?
The Bridge is Over was completely finished in 30 minutes, with the vocals done in one take. KRS played the piano. All this per Ced Gee of UltraMagnetic.
Fact, that was the door they went thru to get in, and it worked, both legends tho, major contributions to hip hop. KRS1 won in many proples mind, but Shan was no joke either.
As for the boros, before the Bridge War, there was some rap with the guys singing "Manhattan makes it, Brooklyn takes it, Queens is the wack; Staten Island's somethin' smilin, and the Bronx is buggin out on crack. We're good lookin'; we're from Brooklyn...". Don't remember who it was. I'd think Force MD's, but it can't possibly be, because they're from Staten Island. But it was some group like that that sung as well as rapped. But it seems almost like both KRS and Poet drew from this the stereotypes of the boroughs.
I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT DISS RECORDS AND DISS BATTLE UNTILL I GOT TO JR HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN THEY STARTED PLAYIN THEM ON THE RADIO LL COOL J/ KOOL MOE DEE KRS-1/ MC SHAN/JUICE CREW LEGENDARY BATTLES…
Thanks for covering this one, it brings me back to my Junior High school days. I was in queens at the time closely following the beef rooting for the home team when the dis of all disses came out “the bridge is over” and it was .. we had to take that L. 🤣. One song your missed though, it was called “the Bronx is Burnt down” kind of a parody to the bridge is over.
No doubt, beefs like these are before my time, but I feel like they should be covered. I've been a fan of hip hop as long as I can remember and I like to learn about the history of it and share that with others. Thanks for watching.
Never heard of that one! Can't even find it now (as searching naturally just turns up mostly documentaries on the Bronx literally "burning" in the 70's) Who did it?
@@ETBX1 I searched myself an cannot find it either but I promise someone made it 🤣 and it gave a something to say against my Brooklyn class mate that would talk about queens! I don’t remember who made it😞
South Bronx definitely had some disses in it although as you stated not in its entirety. "You got dropped off MCA cuz the rhymes you wrote was WACK! 😅😅😅😅 Instead of trying to take out LL you need to get your homeboys off the crack!" I was crying
You've never heard the whole track to Taking U Out? Years ago, they had this, Beat You Down, and a later one I never heard, called "Massacre", not on YT, but on these rap blogs (likely long gone). Now, it's up on YT under "MC POET VS. KRS-ONE / WBLS 107.5 NEW YORK" by Jazzy A. Also should have been mentioned, KRS did essentially put the beef with Shan behind him and even speak well of him in his "Rising" track on the album with Marley, but Shan had been playing along with the whole "Bridge is Over" premise in shows and even a Sprite commercial before then (which made it look like he squashed it on his end), but then in the 2000's, apparently came to regret the implications of it, and was finally triggered when KRS mentioned "I took Shan out" in a battle with someone else.
Yea, I never found a full version of Takin U Out. Only a snippet of it on youtube. I checked out the video you just talked about though. So that's the full version? That's cool.
I would say yea the Crills nills wuz distributed first in the bronx..I remember the glass val was 1 dollar I'm from the south bx so I was there..1980 something
You missed the tracks that came out a few years ago. SHan came out with some crappy song and KRS crushes him like 30yrs later with S.H.A.N. Still Huggin a Nut
MC Shan dissed LL cause of the rock the bells beat And we all kno KRS would diss you just because anytime you diss a group of guys that not even a threat

@@OneStopHipHop811 actually the first hip hop beef, was between Busy B and Kool Moe Dee.
I feel you, but I said "one of the first." Also, that one wasn't on wax like this one was.
Yes you did say that. I was just saying as well. Either way the old school era, I think was better.
@milespettiford2844 Fair enough, how old school are we talking? BDP and Juice Crew is pretty old school.

Kind of a stupid beef considering MC Shan was talking about the origin of The Juice Crew, not the origin of Hip Hop.
Yea pretty much.
shan never said rap started in queensbridge. he was just repping his borough... where THEY come from..
Exactly, some say KRS-One only dissed to get back at DJ Magic for rejecting their song and some say he did it to try to "get on" as they say.
@@OneStopHipHop811 im in the he tried to get on gang...

I saw a Roxanne shante interview where she said BDP dissed the juice crew because they wouldn’t BDP become part of the juice crew
Several people started off with diss tracks against other rappers. KRS ONE, Roxanne Shante, Salt N Pepa and 50 Cent off the top of my head

Everyone knows that KRS killed Shan hands down. Shan was nice, but couldn’t fuck with KRS.
Rakim vs Big Daddy Kane? I guess they had beef sort of lol!
demigodz vs weathermen, kool keith vs jacky jasper requesting

Lyrically Shan could hang with Kris though. The bridge is over wasn't impressive lyrically
The bridge is elementary level rhymes though
@@Treaxvour good point.
Mc Shan album came out in 1987.please do your HISTORY before doing a story on HIP HOP…THANK YOU 🙏🏾
I must have made a typo while writing out the script and didn't fix it before recording. Thanks for watching.
Copying in rap back than was how RUclips is to playing music on RUclips that you don't do

Bronx created hip hop queens will only get dropped but ya still telling lies to me 🤷🤓
Why so many guidelines? You should be doing an expose on manners instead of hip hop
