If it’s for the child to learn, teach and share a culture then yes it makes sense to give the child a chance to share their own culture - but if it’s an individual assignment to learn of another culture and present your findings then on an academic level everyone should be starting from the same line with a culture not attached to them. Is the goal to share a culture of to personally appreciate a culture that is not your own?

For many American Chinese people, learning about their Chinese routes is important, you think they teach that stuff in school? If a kid is raised in the USA, then their culture is USA, but by birth, it is Chinese, however many don't learn about their heritage, because they don't know it, it is actually a better reason for them to be assigned it.

@CoryPchajek There Are Seperate Shoes In The House For Everything. You Don't Go Inside with the shoes you use outside, but instead, you use slippers. There are multiple slippers in the house to go into the backyard, bathroom, and living room. This is pretty common in the Phillipenes. Going to a friend's house you should always remember to wear socks, because they might just be uncomfortable looking, or smelling your feet. And usually, you take the slippers off when you are in bed.

I'm peruvian, I had never learned quechua, the incas language, even if my parents, uncles and grandparents use to speak it very often, yet, I know some bad words 🤣 hearing my grandparents arguing helped 😂 very creative insults they had.. like dog with hairless balls.. 🤣

There are a lot of chinese dialects across china, and there are even a few different languages like Cantonese and the language the Uyghurs speak (despite the CCP's efforts). Most chinese kids learn and use standard Mandarin in school, but use whatever dialect they learned for day to day life.

When I was in middle school I had two friends, one was Armenian who had family in Turkey and another who moved to the states from Germany when she was 10ish. When we were in 6th grade we had to do a project on a country and discuss their past and present. My friend from Germany was allowed to choose Germany because she was still very much so learning English but my Armenian friend couldn’t choose Armenian or Turkey because that was her background. The Armenian friend was grumbled that our friend could choose the country was from but looking back it makes sense. German friend needed a bit of a break with the assignment because she was learning American culture and the English language already, where the Armenian was proud of where she came from but she was well versed in both American and Armenian/Turkish culture (her family lives in Turkey I believe). One was to level the playing field and the other would have been a huge advantage. Giving him China right off of the bat would’ve been giving him an advantage… or it would have been if he better knew where he came from

Yeah, that is pretty long, just for an extra class to learn another language. I don't live in Florida, but my dad lives in Tampa. I've been driven from Orlando to Tampa after visiting for Disney World and Universal Studios, and it took roughly an hour to get to where my dad lived. Of course, it depends on how the traffic is and where you're traveling to and from specifically from these locations, but if a kid has to go through all this travel on top of school stuff, that's overkill, and a waste of gas.
