I have met Gary several times after his concert. In North Carolina his was wrapping up his shows in the States. He hung out with the crowd for hours, he is so down to earth.
I've seen Nash the Slash in 1981, supporting the Tubes in Dortmund / Germany. Impressive performance, I saw nothing like this before (which goes also for The Tubes!). Some nights you simply never forget!
Gary is so cool to acknowledge this so much it brings me to tears listening to him speak so highly of a person like nash so deserving of that praise. Peace Christo 👽🐕🎶🛸☮️
what a cooool bit of info! Slash's violin clip WAS perfect for Numan's tour. Thats why Numan had to cancel the other band... a little sad but whomever they were, that support band should have felt honoured that Nash got on... I mean who else? He was a legend in Canadian music and for electronic/progressive all around.
Gary Numan talks about his unique lovely collegue NASH THE SLASH ...(R.I.P.) .. yeah .. the Rockviolinist >> Nash the Slash ( with Hat and ElektrickViolin) . they are contributing each other since the 8os. Electro icon GARY NUMAN loves him. NUMAN THESE DAYS IS BETTER THAN EVER.And years ago HE TEAMED UP WITH his COOL secret inner hero MINDBROTHER: THE CANADIAN GARAGEROCK E-VIOLIN GENIUS >NASH THE SLASH< (R.i.P.). Also a big influence on my violin playing and work.. i like him very much and could have organized a concert with in the 80s in germany/berlin. But the costs to invite somebody from canada are immense and i was an absolute beginner in the 80s, didnt have that big experience, except at least for a good start having setup the first ever SONIC YOUTH concert in Berlin Sputnik Kino (in former days in the North of berlin, the deadmans curve district Wedding; deadmasn curve also is a little electrotrash hit by Nash the Slash, who in response to Queen who never used Synthesizers on their records, never used/played the overrated instrument with the name > ELEKTRICGuitars, only VIOLINS or synths or unconventional string instruments like electrical mandolins....like me). The cinema Sputnik, very recommended by the way, good program and spirit, nowadays is located in Kreuzberg/ Südstern, organized/continued by the brave, lovely, enthusiastic film art & music loving Andrea Stosiek . MusicBiz always is tough and the money and support to not wellknown acts is not well enuff, too monocultural and ignorant to unconventional acts which are not megafamous and so i didnt find enuff interested supporters and sponsors. SO SAD. I still have the promo sheets and letters and stickers and fotos, he did send to me from canada...Some years ago Nash died much too early like many other of my heroes..Before he often teamed up with comeback 80s ELECTROpoptrash Hero Gary Numan who was rediscovered by his fans and followers like Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor and was like me fascinated by NASHs Poptrash Art and masquerade: Nash was never showing his real face, hiding behind a mask like we all do nowadays. His Artist Cameo was dressing up totally masked and bandaged like the legendary fantasystory/horrorfilm figure THE INVISIBLE MAN. Gary Numan had his comeback - he now does Stoner/Garagerock with electronics like Ministry or N:I:N. his fans, always did. Or like his secret rolemodel Nash the Slash, he often admitted that Nash has inspired him and so, loyally Gary teamed up with him in the 90s and beginning 2000s.. Numan is in a certain way famous again today, he even sells out smaller venues in germany sometimes. Nash was only famous locally, they should name a street after him in Toronto or where he lived.. He did selected multimedial LiveEvents like me with my violinprojects, for example(also like me) Livesoundtracks to surreal silent movies like UN CHIEN ANDALOUSE by Bunuel or METROPOLIS. He mainly played and stayed in Canada and USA. A certain time we kept contact, over my space and mail, he always stayed in touch, also to to his fans thru a funny online diary, which he pretended was written by his critical Dog named Digger...Rest in Peace mindbrother.. Besides being a specialist for cool obscure interesting underground art & music like Blaine L. Reininger s violin driven collegues Tuxedomoon violin and culture extravagantia man tNash The Slash also was big Prokofjev fan , he did a electro garage hit called WOLF, He also was CovermutatTTing HIS FAVORITE mindbrothers and heroes, means, he, like me since today, transmutated covermutated chosen Popart by mindbros like THE WHO (Baba o Riley) Beatles, Stones (19th nervous breakdown) or KING CRIMSON (Starless with his former sideproject band FM; or 21st Century man by KC) into his surreal Violin Underground universe. His Music & Live Gigs are documented in RUclips search for it its worth the thing ! When we spoke the last time he also was really pissed doff, very disapointed by the rip-off download for free mentality of Spotify & Co and RUclips , cause they didnt give the adequate share to the artists..Support your local and international artists!! Respect to Nash the Slash..(aka James Jeffery Plewman) R.I.P. ...
In 1982, Numan played at a San Francisco club called the Kabuki. Mingo Lewis, who was a member of the Tubes for a while, was playing in one of the support bands. My brother noticed that Fee Waybill was at the show. This might be when Numan met him.
I went to see Numan on the 1980 Teletour, Nash was the support but the original support was supposed to be a bloke called James Freud! But so glad Nash did it instead, was a big fan after that! RIP Nash!!
Remember Nash, remember he was a very nice Canadian guy,he gave me a nice tee shirt with his face n shoulders on it, obviously in bandages 😀and black shades. Remember Paul saying they saw him in a club awesome guy and menacing style and look at the time.
Good thing these guys don't do one of those "This Is Your Life" type shows. At least pick musicians that are relevant to the artist you are interviewing. Not ones you happen to like.
Sounds more to me that he had picked up a local band to be his warmup act and that night when he saw Nash he said that's the guy I want. It wouldn't necessarily follow that the original band was FM. It could be. But that would be a huge coincidence.
+Cher Stroble Ever wonder what some of your favorite artists think of some of your other favorite artists? Frumvinyl is not afraid to ask those questions. One of Gary Numan's favorite artists is Marc Bolan. Marc Bolan was great friends with Jeff Lynne. Marc would attend as many of the early ELO gigs as possible and join Jeff on stage almost every time. Marc performs & shares guitar solo's on the 'On The Third Day' LP. Gary knows who Jeff Lynne is. Gary & everyone had a good laugh after this was done.
Nash the fucking Slash. Rest in peace mate. Much love from Australia.
Gary, you fucking boss.
I can't believe Gary Numan is as kind and polite as he is, even when caught off gurad by the interviewer.. Kudos Gary
Love Numan too.
He's still making up for when he bumped those artists for Slash. LoL.
I have met Gary several times after his concert. In North Carolina his was wrapping up his shows in the States. He hung out with the crowd for hours, he is so down to earth.
Gary is the Godfather of all that wicked electronic music from the late 70s and early 80s....absolutely f’n brilliant👍🏾👍🏾

Gary Numan is just lovely in this interview and was gracious to admit the facts behind their paring. Impressive.
RIP, Nash.
Nash the slash is a Canadian Great.
Fuckin A.
What a classy guy....excellent interview. By the way, saw NTS in 1979, opening for The Who (!)...amazing show.
Saw Nash the slash in Cleveland early 80s..opened for Gary Neumann......still have pictures I took...
NASH, WE LOVE YOU!! 💙💖
Friday Sept 12th at 13yrs old, I watched Gary and Nash perform at Bristol Hippodrome, UK, I will never forget that night 🙂

Two great artist
Love gorgeous Gary so so much forever
good job on the interview !
+Randy Ellis I only just got into this fella a year ago, he slipped under my radar. man what a loss.
Check out Jeff Plewman (aka Nash the Slash) with on stage with violin. (seconds 1-5)
RIP daddy,
Smart guy, got his album from the 70s it's gotta cover of deep purples smoke on the water on it, and the very first single dead man's curve
Remember Nash, remember he was a very nice Canadian guy,he gave me a nice tee shirt with his face n shoulders on it, obviously in bandages 😀and black shades. Remember Paul saying they saw him in a club awesome guy and menacing style and look at the time.
I was at that show
Well that was cool,Thanks !
Rip Jeff (Nash)...
When Numan met Plewman ...
CusterFlux Thank God for that!!
Oh that was so good
Numan is Larger Than Life, but NOT scary! In the 1980's I went to high school one Halloween dressed up as Nash The Slash --- BEST DAY EVER!
Can anyone please tell me what song is Nash playing at 2:36?
❤❤❤❤❤
Its strange to explane, i was drunk bout 7 times and every time the Slash was there. Clydesdale custon cases.
nash had no clydesdale cases
Interviewer: Have you ever watched the Terminator? .... It's cool.
The wig looks far more convincing than today's artificial rug.

I seem to remember the support act of the 1980 tour was a visual group known as "Shock", they were hoping to make it big with the new video market
Would make sense they had a hit in the UK
Remember seeing Shock at Doncaster Rotters club. Must have been 81ish. Featured Robots Tick & Tock. Classix Nouveau headlined.
Nash was playing with "FM" around that time...is that who Gary fucked around? ; )
According to Wiki, Nash was out of FM between 77 and 83, Gary's talking 1980 here. Also that might explain his reluctance to say!
Sounds more to me that he had picked up a local band to be his warmup act and that night when he saw Nash he said that's the guy I want. It wouldn't necessarily follow that the original band was FM. It could be. But that would be a huge coincidence.
Back when Toronto was an unbelievably cool place dripping with talent. Its so sad how this city has slid into a talentless, boring, generic kumdump.
Why would ***anyone*** mention ELO / Jeff Lynn or The Tubes to GARY NUMAN ? So NOT His Cup Of Tea ! What A Ignorant Interviewer !

+Cher Stroble Yes, which was quite apparent in how Numan responded to some of his questions.
Cher Stroble ignorant interviewer, yes, but Gary's response does make me laugh!
@@mariabaverstock1765 Gary thought my question was so ignorant I was invited as his guest to his next gig in Detroit. No regrets.
camera angle is all fucked up
