The first line will run 34 miles (54 kilometers) from east Cairo to the new administrative capital
MONTREAL: Canadian manufacturing group Bombardier announced on Monday it had signed a multi-billion dollar agreement to build two automated monorail lines in Egypt’s notoriously congested capital Cairo.
The $4.5 billion (4 billion euro) agreement, which was signed with Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels, is subject to “final signatures of supplementary documents,” Bombadier and its Egyptian partners Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors said in a joint statement. The monorails, which will be able to transport 45,000 passengers per-hour in either direction, “will dramatically improve the quality of life for millions of residents by significantly reducing their daily commuting time,” said Danny Di Perna, president of the company’s railway division Bombardier Transportation.
He noted the monorails will also reduce traffic congestion in the city that’s home to more than 20 million people. The three companies will be responsible for the construction, development and maintenance of the new monorail lines for 30 years, according to the statement. The first line will run 34 miles (54 kilometers) from east Cairo to the new administrative capital being built in the desert. The second line, which will run for 26 miles, will connect 6th October City to Giza.
Congratulations Cairo city. like the yellow and pink MRT Monorail in Bangkok, Thailand.
Not to mention between the two monorail lines there are 3 metro lines that connect East Cairo to Giza
We need this for the Santiago de los Caballeros City in Dominican Republic, our president Luis Abinader is interested in this type of transportation, his government has a competition to submit proposals for the construction of a monorail
Trains and mass transit in general are the future. Cars failed on so many levels
wow i like it :)
Looks nice! Happy for the residents of Cairo

Idk what to think about this project. Monorails have proven unsuccessful loads of times. And I really do prefer an underground rail and a well built metro
Cairo already has a metro (which doesn't cover most of urban area that is covered by those monorails). I do agree that it should it be underground would be better integrated with that system, however it looks like it might just be an overground version of a metro line with a two-way system. Most of what seems to fail about monorails are their one way, circular systems.
You got money for metro? Bro sit down
@@KarimElhoussami bingo he from USA land of failed rail systems
@@qjtvaddict metro is cheaper
@@qjtvaddict and where are you from?
Monorail, Monorail :)
I support any projects that may take Egypt a step closer into the right direction, but let's be honest, why does the government only care about Cairo? Why not upgrade the National Rail System that's been rotting for decades? This is cool, but you know what would be cooler? A general upgrade on the nationwide infrastructure to tie the nation together, not just the capital!
You don't know about the new high speed rail network? Cmon man at least search before saying that
While other cities failing at monorail 😏
Looks like the most reasonable project so far
بلح
Monorail 🤮🤮🤮
I'm sure that will be the worst project in Egypt. It will not be effective, because it will be slow, small, expensive, and fewer trains, which means waiting a lot for another train to arrive
