Moscow Monorail is about to be closed and there's can be a elevated tram line or park like High Lane Park from NYC. The reason of possible closure is high expenses and low income from this line (marked as line 13 in metro network)
@@carlosrivera3260 it's way cooler than most of these, i can't believe Tim considers low capacity and failed systems as cool. In his defense, he just went to Sao Paulo recently, this is an old video.
Tokyo Monorail is my favorite. It is fast and reliable. It even has a rapid service that does non-stop service between Hamamatsucho station and Haneda Airport Terminal 3 station!
I've ridden the Seattle monorail the most. While very popular with tourists, there are people who park at Seattle Center (near the Space Needle) and commute to work downtown! The downtown terminal is at a four-story shopping mall and connects with the underground light-rail tunnel via elevator, so one can actually take the combination of the two systems to the airport.
Another enjoyable top 10 - I am always happy to see a new one :). I also like the suspended Shonan monorail in Japan. It covers 6.6 km between Enoshima and Ofuna. I has to go up and down a series of tree covered hills, which adds some extra interest to the trip. The Haneda Airport monorail in Tokyo and the long Osaka monorail (over 25 km I think) also come to mind.
Shonan Monorail (A.K.A roller coaster monorail ) in Japan. Skyrail Midorizawa Line( Considered suspended monorail), Hiroshima, Japan Chiba Urban Monorail , Chiba, Japan They are also cool monorails
Wuppertal was the best BY FAR! Yes, it definitely is a worthwhile investment as it will reduce traffic congestion, pollution, speed up transportation, and thereby promote commerce & tourism.
I'm curious about the lack of the Disney monorails. The Disneyland/Walt Disney World monorail systems were based off of the Alweg design (Disney purchased the rights to use the design, but built the train themselves). The Las Vegas monorail system started off using the old Walt Disney World Mark IV trains, so they use the same system, too. There's also a couple of maglevs that could be considered "monorails". One in Shanghai is the current fastest maglev, though Japan is currently working on a much faster one to replace their Bullet Trains. I don't think the latter can be considered a monorail since it sits in a U-shaped track (not really a "rail"). I know of a much older maglev in Japan (I _think_ it was for a World's Fair), but other than being a maglev, it doesn't seem to be very impressive.
Like the last one, it can be built over existing structures, like streets, rivers etc. I don't think any has ever reached anywhere near the speeds promised though.
In the summer of 1964 I lived in Wuppertal and rode die Schwebebahn or die Strassenbahn daily. My American friend and I wanted to say "monorail" or "Einschienenbahn" in German, but that word was not really used. Just before I left Germany, I got an invitation to visit the Alweg Bahn test track near Köln (aka Cologne). 50 years later, 2014, I rode the Alwegbahn in Seattle. At the other end from the Space Needle, the station is in a food court. I'll vote Seattle as #1 because of the Thai food in the food court. 😀
My favorite monorail is the Tokyo-Nara monorail. It's launched in 1964 for the olympic games, has strechs in tunnel, achieve a 80km/h speed. One os it's strech was changed to launch a new station near the airport. Unfortunately this monorail didn't was mentioned in this video. Line 15 - Silver from São Paulo Metrô is very wonderful too!
Can you find 10? There's the Wuppertal Danglebahn of course, and some Japanese systems that look very interesting, but otherwise I'd be struggling to think of that many
Like other commentators, I share your view that Wuppertal is a worthey number one. But viewers not familiar with Wuppertal need to know that MOST of the line is built above the river. Your shots concentrate on the short street section in Vohwinkel.. The line opened in 1901. In the intervening 120 years a number of other (usually short) monorails have opened. But i think we can now safely conclude that monorails are never going to make a large contribution to urban public transport.
@@chou3595 infelizmente aqui no Rio a realidade é diferente. Tinha projeto de linha 3 do metrô que ligaria Niteroi, São Gonçalo e Itaboria. Provavelmente será substituído por corredor de ônibus o que é um retrocesso! 👀Ⓜ🚝
Wahrscheinlich Wuppertahl! SHAMEFUL as most monorails systems offer end viewing for the public, Las Vegas has NO end viewing to see the single concrete track! They MUST install some windows in the bulkheads to allow for public end viewing! Years ago I tried to argue for Seattle to EXTEND their current Duewag monorail from their Science Centre to Seatac International Airport, but fell upon deaf ears. At least it has been preserved even though it has only two end stops. At least currently their light rail does go from downtown Seattle to Seatac.
The Wuppertal Schwebebahn follows a curving path over the river and over urban streets. The suspension design allows the cars to tilt in the turns and passengers feel no side forces. The ride is a lot more scenic than a subway. The length is 13.3 km and the maximum speed is 60 km/h = 37 mi/h.
1:07 correction - 30km/h not 60
By the way, the Moscow monorail was built by a company that builds an amusement rides. (Google Translate)

And it's mph, not mp/h ^^
Where is São Paulo's???
where's the san Paulo monorail in brazil and Chongqing in china that happens to be the longest in the world..
How could you forget the Chiba Urban Monorail in Japan....? 15km and 18 stations
Missed the 15-silver subway line in São Paulo, Brazil
good
Well, maybe it's not one of the top 10 coolest.
@@carlosrivera3260 I'm pretty sure it's cooler than some of those systems shown on video. ;-)

Mumbai also has a monorail 🤣🤣. If India can have one its not expensive.
Why didn't you include the Chongqing Monorail?
Fr, it's like a normal metro in form of a monorail and has a huge ridership plus has a station inside a building. He should've include that.
My favorite is the São Paulo (Brazil).
Wuppertal was the best BY FAR!
Yes, it definitely is a worthwhile investment as it will reduce traffic congestion, pollution, speed up transportation, and thereby promote commerce & tourism.
Thanks Timothy for featuring the KL Monorail from my home city of Kuala Lumpur. :D
Nice choice but I like Chongqing, Mumbai, Tokyo and Osaka more than Dubai's lmao

the Daegu subway line 3, monorail belgium, Wolmido Sea train and KL Monorail
Like the last one, it can be built over existing structures, like streets, rivers etc. I don't think any has ever reached anywhere near the speeds promised though.
18 mph is closer to 30 kph. But yeah, that's slower than streetcar speed, which makes no sense given that it's isolated right of way.

Thanks Tim👍👍😄😄
Tokyo Monorail !!!! This amazing Alweg runs at the fastest 80Km/h and the longest 17.8km in Japan. It was made in 1964.

Mumbai monorail!!😍 is also good !!

Only monorail I've ever seen was the Newark Airport one lol
Oh no, but why didn't you just make a video of the Cairo subway, huh?
Is the Seattle Monorail in the one?
Edit: nvm. It is. It’s number 9 on the list.
Lived in Naha before! It is called Yui Rail for the #2.
The Seattle Monorail I've two more than I like. Las Vegas one of course Disneyland. Only two I written on with Seattle and Disneyland
Disneyworld since it's the only one I have ever been on. I wonder why it didn't make this list.
Wuppertal Monorail is really the coolest.... even when what you recognice first is the word "verboten" on the sign at the station. Very German indeed.
People’s Mover in Detroit, Miami are missing. Tama - Monorail in western Met of Tokyo is closest transportation for me.
The Kuala Lumpur monorail is the best one.
What about the Walt Disney world monorail system
May want to check out the chongqing giant panda glass bottom monorail.
Hey we're getting anew monorail in cairo could you do a video about and weather it's useful or a failure in your opinion
You forgot the monirail silver line 15 in São Paulo, Brazil and so many others in Japan, Korea, China etc
Mumbai monorail is my favourite
Chongqing China's monorail is spectacular
the best are hanging monorails : Dusseldorf or Chiba in Japan
da Singapore one!!!
Can you find 10? There's the Wuppertal Danglebahn of course, and some Japanese systems that look very interesting, but otherwise I'd be struggling to think of that many

Faltou mostrar o monotrilho daqui de São Paulo no Brasil
You may forget Chongqing Monorail(LRT)
The 10th one in Moscow was frustratingly slow to watch!

The Springfield Monorail gets no love?
You forgot about the chongqing monorail
SINGAPORE MORNARAIL. I AM FORM SG
18 mph for the moscow monorail is 28.8 km/h

Where's Disneyland's Monorail? :/
Where the F is Mumbai's monorail?
Aqui no Brasil os governantes pensam pra trás dando prioridade á transportes sobre pneus! 👀
mas nós temos monotrilho em São Paulo, e o Estado está cointrundo mais 2 linjas kk

Ever been to Chongqing?
And Brazil?
Disneyworld Fla,
Alweg design but with electric motors etc from General Electric.
The driver is not protected. Seattle
Indianapolis IU Helalth center people mover
it's less than 30 Km/h
real talk Monorails are wack except for Disney. They are not real transit.
The best and the tallest..will be in Egypt...
It's driverless..for more than 100kilometer!!
*Did you say monorail?*
Plz Mumbai monorail 😭😭😭😭
as Maglev are also one "track" and none are on this list therefore the two suspended ones disqualify

Тимоша. В германии это не монорельс. А подвесной трамвай.
Los alemanes y su sobre ingeniería 🤦
Monorails suck; it's quite slow, just for fun
