  • Space light fixtures to provide uniform distribution and illumination of roadways and sidewalks. Consider the locations of obstruction such as trees or billboards.
    Height:
Standard poles for sidewalks and bike facilities are 4.5-6 m. Light poles for roadbeds vary according to the street typology and land use. In most contexts, standard heights for narrow streets in residential, commercial, and historical contexts are between 8-10 m. Taller poles between 10 m and 12 m are appropriate for wider streets in commercial or industrial areas.
    Spacing:
The spacing between two light poles should be roughly 2.5-3 times the height of the pole. Shorter light poles should be installed at closer intervals. The density, speed of travel, and the type of light source along a corridor will also determine the ideal height and spacing.
    Light Cone:
The light cone has roughly the same diameter as the height of the fixture from the ground. The height will, therefore, determine the maximum suggested distance between two light poles to avoid dark areas.

It’s 2023 and our neighborhood has been brightened up thanks to Duke Progress (how ironic) Energy. Overly so and unnecessarily. Now thieves and vandals can see their targets. Easily. Yes. We are experiencing a rise in senseless damage to vehicles because NOW they are easy to spot! Busted windows etc.
Bright parking lot lighting benefits the criminal. Caught on video tape, we watched the criminals look into the interior of parked vehicles and “shop.” Two went into cars by breaking through the windows with a tool, like the kind used to escape a sinking vehicle. The windows broke so fast! Seriously folks. Brightly lit parking lots attract the criminally minded because they are looking to wreck something and NOW they can easily see it. We saw another thief going into a mini van parked on the street by breaking the passenger side window. He had to use a flashlight because the streetlights were dimmer than our parking
lot lights. Someone in lighting design for Duke has their head up their butts. Dim the lights you dim wits!

This video is very ...misleading, adding a bunch of factors without explanation of the sorce of the data. Spacing formula does not include the Hite of the pow
