Hi, I want to measure the prey and predator species density of a praying mantis. For this, I take notes on every visit, along with the numbers of all potential prey and predator species I see. Could this method be suitable for me? Thank you!
Hi Mr Pollock I am new to this subject. I wonder if your formula is correct. As far as I know D should be between 0-1. The formula that I was taught was dividing total of n(n-1)/N(N-1). Can you please comment on this?
For step four, shouldn't it say "Divide ∈n(n-1) by n(n-1)" because you divided 2862 by 694? For step four, you wrote "Divide N(N-1) by ∈n(n-1). I'm just kind of confused there. 4:12
Is it possible get one value of the index both for aquatic and terrestrial fauna? for example in a cave which have both terrestrial and acquatic fauna. And what about when using different sampling methods? Thanks!
+Mr Pollock I mean is there a range or scale? How can I tell that the result of the computation is big or small. In your example is there a high or low index of diversity.
Well done. Didn't know how to do this at first but your structure helped me out to answer the past paper questions on this part. Subscription added.
Thank you so much for helping me in the Environmental Science class. I wasn't able to comprehend the formulas, but thanks to you I can now.
Oh my goodness thank you! Maths has always been my weak point and I actually understand this clearly. How many marks would question like this be?
Glad I could help! The calculation will be a 2 marker.
Why do you reciprocate the formula...!! Can you assist me please....!!
Pro tip : you can watch movies on flixzone. Been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Avery Kamden Yea, have been using flixzone for years myself :)
@@bowenrylan5873 you guys are definitely bots
This is a great description, thanks! Also, the IB uses this same version of the equation for IB Bio and IB ESS.

This is very helpful, i finished my homework, YeY! Thank you very much!
Great video again Mr Pollock my exam is today and these videos have really helped!
Video of Shannon index please love the videos specially the importance of Simpsons index very useful learned so much
Can you please do gas exchange in fish and insects please. Exams on the 1st JUNE
He already has Vids on That
Hi Mr Pollock, could you do classification next please?
Goooner Mad98 Will try...not sure I'll manage all of the DNA/Protein techniques though!
What is mean 4.12 ? It is 4.12 low diversity or high diversity ? How much have low diversity , mean diversity and high diversity? Thank you
I thought that equation was to calculate species diversity not species richness
Would the Simpson diversity index be 694/2862 = 1-0.24
= 0.76

You actually just saved my life thank you so much!!
these Videos teach my better than my teacher
pretty sure this is the equation used in ib for whatever reason
If we take number of species in a family (not individuals) as values of n, can it be a legit calculation then?
I think his formula is incorrect.. as I learn it differently .. you ans is supposed to be between 0-1.
IAN'S should be:0.76
thank you for the video can you kindly tell me the difference between Index of Species Diversity and index of biodiversity
this helped so much OMGGG
can we use this index to estimate flora diversity???
Thank you so much! I think I now finally understand this! :) :)
thanks for this! finally understand it
this one is a greate help. sir can you tell me how to interpret the value of D.
Bigger D = Larger diversity.
+Mr Pollock I mean is there a range or scale? How can I tell that the result of the computation is big or small.
In your example is there a high or low index of diversity.
I'm guessing we would have to compare to values of D that we figure out
The comment on how diverse a habitat is from the other
Thank youuuuuuuuu!!!!!!
this video just saved me
This is not simpson index????
thank you :)
This helps alot. Thanks.
Thank you
