One of my favorite children's book by a black author is We Wait for the Sun by Dovey Johnson Roundtree. It isn't scary or dark so not likely a good pick for blackoween (though it does fit some prompts!) It does touch on fear but really it is uplifting, magical and so enchanting. It touches my soul. Dovey Johnson Roundtree was a civil rights activist and this is a story from her memory of her grandmother. 💕
I’m thinking the same thing. I forgot about, then thought about reading it for July Noir, and now I’m meh about it. I have plenty of other books to read.
I’m finding of all age categories, that MG is written the tightest (no bloated 480 pagers) and is obviously edited. This immediately puts it as my favourite category these days. If YA and Adult could follow suit, that would be great!
I love hide & seeker! It's has such a great balance of spooky and heartfelt, I really love the friendships in that story ❤ I've been wanting to reread it for a while.... do rereads count for Blackoween 🤔
Yesssss Hide and Seeker! I’m reading Root Magic for July Noir! Stoked!

Thanks for these suggestions! 😊
I love Hide and Seeker
You’re right! There’s just something about reading YA and kid lit horror and mystery that hits the spot. Hide and seekers sounds really interesting!
Root Magic is on my July Noir TBR
I loved Hide and Seeker, it was pretty scary for me 😅
The Witchery has been on my list for so long. Idk if this made me want to read it anymore 😅

It just didn't do it for me but I can see how it can do it for other people
Your fits are so cute!
I need to read root magic. I had a fun time with The Witchery
I loved Root Magic and generally am into MG so I'm excited to try some more of these!
Hope you enjoy it!
