Kenji's dad never showed him any love and kenji just wants to feel appreciated by his dad hence why he took the gadi but that was before Darius told Kenji that he doesn't need to be rich to impress them plus after sammy was poisoned Brooklyn changed Kenji when she comforted him. And that confirmed his feelings for Brooklyn inside him. I'm just saying Kenji was going through a tough time seeing his friend dying and Brooklyn changed him. Just wait and watch in season 4 how Kenji has changed. Now instead of boasting about his rich life he is more down to earth and loving and protective of his friends and especially Brooklyn.
