Cziffra is a brilliant pianist, one of the best in history. Thanks to this channel for listening to such wonderful music performed by such a wonderful pianist
@@tommasomarino1575 in Prague 1955 and Turin 1959 he played both the beginning and ending as written, in another recording from Switzerland in 1969 he played it with Db in the beginning and A in the end. This studio recording was most probably made after 1970
@@babyskunkcat Yes Cziffra always choose to play D♭ instead of C after 1965... although he only left two recordings of Funérailles.😜 (This one and 1969 Live)
8:27 The bass in this section is like he is shaking the whole floor around the piano, completely amazing !

Interesting choice of notes in the beginning and the very end..
Yes... Maybe he didn't like the D Flat - C dissonance... And the end... Gosh, he finished in Major!

@@PianoJFAudioSheet The recording in Prague 1955 album is the same live recording of Turin 1959 🙂
@@Felix_Li_En ah yes, you're right.. :)
I love 4:21. Also for some reason this section reminds me a little of the Valse Allemande from the Schumann Carnaval.
His virtuosity always surprises me.
I love how its a random a at the end
Wait I'm confused is he playing a low Db instead of the C in the beginning?
what do you mean?.. yeah it's a low D flat not a C
The second note is a low C but he plays a low Db instead.

@@Felix_Li_En Also the Turin all Liszt recital where he played this masterpiece!
@@tommasomarino1575 Yes, and that was the only one recording (I think🤔) Cziffra played the right note! (the low C)
It was Cziffra, and the others.
