    WOW! I am so jealous right now I have always loved anything to do with space and space travel ever since I can remember I used to have a load of books when I was a kid all about NASA and everything in-between. The V. A. B was.....still is my all time favourite building it is so big that it actually starts to develop it's very own whether system it starts to develop clouds inside the Vehicle Assembly Building how awesome is that!! I loved this video thanks for shearing Adam you have made my day.

    • @hjfox1
      @hjfox1 8 лет назад +1

      Asked him for his job description (since he is now retired and much older) and this is what he told me: I tore this place apart looking for an old resume, which would have the precise title, only to discover, that it must be in my old samsonite briefcase in storage. I do remember that, the title was rather long and not accurately describing all we did. We were the ones totally responsible for the shuttle from the second it lands till it's next launch. We even did the upright mating to the external tank and and putting it on the back of a 747 for transport to the east coast. That's still not all, but about as accurate as my old mind can remember

    I worked @ KSC for 22 yrs (88-00) but haven't been back out there. I knew Spacex took over 39A, but not sure what is going on at 39B. I still live in the area and see some of my old co-workers from time to time. Many are retired (like me) but it's been a tough road for many since end of shuttle. They didn't keep very many of the old workforce. Spacex is probably the biggest employer out there now, but Blue Origin is another private company that now is largely in West Texas, but set to come to KSC. In your video near the end where you were where the Saturn 5 rocket was, that used to be outside at the area where you stopped and were laying on the portion of the flag painted on the concrete. It was there many yrs, but was getting in bad shape from the elements. They built that facility where it is now and moved it there and restored it cosmetically. Great stuff, I miss being out there sometimes. We used to joke around that after we retired would get a job at the visitor complex as a tourguide! I didn't recognize your driver tho Lol..........

    There is a museum in Starke, FL that has the only remaining External Tank from the Space Shuttle program, and it is a two hour drive from Kennedy. I am also surprised that they don't allow tours over to CCAFS any more, I was lucky enough to see New Horizons at the pad before it left earth. I need to go back!

    The last time I was here was in 1989 (I believe), a few days before a shuttle launch. We were lucky enough to be witness to the platform that moved the shuttle from the prep building to the launch pad. Had I known that years later they'd discontinue the shuttle program I'd have made sure to do a lot more to capture it. It was an amazing experience, even at 2mph.

    The walkway is still there, that's such a cool piece. That's pretty cool lunch with an actual astronaut, one thing I miss is seeing the Shuttle launches they were so cool. It looks like you did roughly the same tour I did when I visited NASA back in 2002. Nothing can set your mind for just how big that rocket truly is, pictures don't do it justice. If that was Endeavour or Enterprise I'd be happy as anything.

The tour there takes you to the current Mission Control as well as the Apollo Mission Control (at least it was still there when I went as a kid 15 years ago) right across the hall, preserved in all it's 1960's tech glory . . . and of course the training facilities.

      I was pretty young, 12 yrs old or so. The thing I remember the most is how freakin BIG the rocket was. In fact, it was so tall that if you looked up to the top while standing by the crawler you would lose your balance. I just wish I could have seen a launch. Now that would have been spectacular.
