You were making my heart skip a beat every time you went crazy with it. I sliced a good chunk of my skin and am scarred for life haha
Dude you forgot to mention the plastic safety guard that is sold with that mandoline! You should use it if you like your fingertips..
Ever since I sliced my finger slicing a cucumber I always use the safety guard. It is scary when that happens. Specially for the poor vegetarians guests.
if training to be a chef over the past years has taught me anything is that you must respect the mandolin! i would also recommend using an open palm when slicing ingredients as service is easier with a palm cut over a fingertip cut.
Just got my first mandoline for my birthday. Really looking forward to cooking up some of that gorgeous ratatouille!
Yep for me a mandoline is essential in any kitchen! I'm not able to adjust the blade though so I'll have to get myself one of those Japanese ones!
As a man with the digital dexterity of a three-year-old, I appreciated my mandoline. I've got the same Japanese brand (which is apparently not to be named) that you're using for the demo. I've also got questions:
1. You say that it's important to keep the blade sharp. How does one do that on such a contraption?
2. My unit came with attachments for dicing and mincing. I've found them to be ineffectual. Is this my fault, or theirs?
3. I've heard countless bluegrass musicians make beautiful music on one of these. However, every time I start strumming mine, it's a bloody mess. Any suggestions?
Could you link the mandolin you're using here?
i remember my co-worker before. it was his 1st time to use the mandolin ever. then after a few strokes, he cut himself. now, he is finger print-less man on this thumb
How do you ensure the blade is sharp? Does it require you to disassemble the mandolin to remove the blade to sharpen on a knife sharpener or is there a simpler method? Thanks!
USE THE HANDGUARD or a kevlar glove. thanks.
Or don't, however much you love your fingers is up to you!
Above the fact that these videos are very helpfull ... this guy is sincerely hillarious to watch ! =) Great job guys keep up the good work!
How do you guys feel about the hand guard that comes with some mandolins? How far up the food item you're slicing do you go before you stop?
Hi,.. It is impossible to by the main blade separately.. any demo to sharpen it? My mandoline blade became really dull. thank's
do you sharpen your mandolin blade as you would a knife
does a Japanese mandolin allow for removal of the blade and swapping it out for a waffle cutter or a julienne slicer?
what manufacturer is that? where'd you buy it? which brand do you recommend for cutting fries? Thanks for the info and the video. best regards. P.S. Oh yeah, can you make a version of my favorite store bought cookie? It's Trader Joe's Belgian Butter Waffle Cookie. Very simple ingredients listed but have no idea how to make it. It's like a stamped cookie.
Link to that mandolin since you like it so much? 😃
when do the joules start shipping? May is here.
chef.... plz plz plz post the link of where to get this mandolin ... thanks
How do you sharpen the blade?
Great video as always! Just found your channel and think you guys are doing great work introducing people to food. But please use the hand guard that comes with you mandoline, especially if your going to show off and close your eyes!
Great video grant
seems a little basic.... found it funny though when he said you can close your eyes and then straight after he says "dont do that" can't script that kind comedy
please tell us the cheap and best chefs knifes///
I want one
What Brand of mandolin are you using?
I feel like I got Dejavu from this Video.
Next vid: "how to master your door handle".
Or: "how to sit down."
Or: "Sitting on a TV, watching couch"
So a sharp blade is important, but you don't show if that blade can be removed. So what happens when it eventually dulls? Are They Sharpened the same as a knife or do you angle only one side? This video seems a bit superficial, there aren't any tips or tricks, just proper use of a mandolin.
this video really should also address the problem that the material is eventually getting too short to hold... toss away at that point?
Where can I buy that Mandolin? What brand is it?
+SirJasonMacguber If you go to our website-the link for recipes is always underneath the videos-you'll find info about equipment. Thanks!
우리집에 있는거다 ㅎㅎ
Grant looks like the Dad from Inside out
hmm
Why so many dislikes..?
what is your recommendation for the best Japanese mandoline on the market?
dude loves cucumbers :p
Bro
Really? That's it?
"Keep it from wobbling" and "pull the stuff along the ridge"??
Aside from praising the tool for its obvious accuracy, this video didn't do ANYTHING to bring me (or anyone else, for that matter) one step closer to "Master the mandolin"!
This video NEEDS to come with a warning (especially for idiots like me) -- not that many months ago (yes I'm still bitter), I sliced the tip of my finger off. About a little more than a ¼". PLEASE tell people about these dangers Before just toting it off as some regular tool everyone should use without any fear.
While its not the worst, This has changed me for the rest of my life. I have lost a lot -- just from trying to use a vegetable slicer.
First! I DID IT!
First comment yo
+Josh Cristol WOOOO!
