Nice review I own these Choras in my home theater for my front stage… I will be upgrading the rest to of speakers to these… I wouldn’t say these are bright however some room treatment will tame them a bit if you are finding it sounding brighter, resonance in the room can artificially inflate the top end with especially in rooms with hard floors. I found them to be extremely detailed but not fatiguing in my treated room. As you said in your review they are much better with subs.
Overall paired with some good subs like I have HSU ULS-15 MK2s they are incredible. You can reach almost endgame sound and definitely at the point of diminishing returns with these when set up properly.

Maybe in ceiling focal 300s 8 inch . A little music but primarily for the tv great videos . So much goes over my head what you all talk about but trying to learn something new always 👍

Thanks for this video, so far these are my top pick for my next speaker upgrade to replace my 11 years old Infinity Primus speakers. After being undecided for quite some time between the SVS Prime Pinnacle, the Paradigm Premier 800f and the Focal Chora 826 these are on top based on many opinions and what I am looking for in sound quality. I do have a SVS PB-1000 Pro and will be getting a second one soon to replace a Velodyne VRP-12 sub-woofer in my small HT room. BTW I love FFDP too!!

I have the Chora 806 bookshelf version of these. I can tell you that these do benefit from the included stand.
I listened without first and then with and the difference is there. The time alignment, spacial info, etc. does improve when the speaker is angled on its intended stand.
Another thing to consider is that these are in fact not lacking in bsss nor are they bright.
Focal tweeter design is meant to bring you detail and their inverted design does just that.
In fact as far as a Focal product, these are a warm speaker in comparison to their higher end loudspeakers.
These are not bass lover’s speakers though and yes, they would benefit from a sub.
However, I enjoy bass and don’t use a sub with the bookshelf version in a secondary system with a 40w per channel NAD integrated.
Focal speakers very much so need some time to play before things settle so place these, play some music and walk away for about 2 hours, and you will be rewarded.
The staging on these with proper placement is wide and beyond the speakers.
A note on some of the music you mentioned…
I’m a jazz lover and metal head. Focal and metal are not a match made in heaven as metal is generally compressed and mixed/mastered in a way that can sound harsh on more revealing speakers.
There are exceptions of course. Distorted guitars, etc. can be difficult in poorer quality recordings.
If that’s your primary genre, maybe a Klipsch or ELAC would be a better choice.
Use the Focal stand, allow these to settle in, place properly away from reflective surfaces and enjoy.
While I’m not convinced the Choras were very competitive upon release unless you really love Focal, they are indeed a good find a few years later.
There’s a lot of speakers out there now so try before you buy when possible.
These are excellent for the price in 2022.
    Nice overview of potential set-up.

    • @-MarkWinston-

The 816s are measured to be bright in room due to the flaring wide dispersion pattern, on axis they are rather neutral. This can be easily solved by absorbing first reflection points on the side walls, floor and ceiling. What these cam do and other speakers cant is the level of detail, clarity and transparency it produces. Dynamicism is another unbeatable area at this price point, along with that HUGE soundstage it produces when you have the space for it, another artifact of that wide dispersion pattern. It beats other speakers in nearly every aspect besides low frequency extension and slam. This is not an issue if you are running a sub or 2. It also has none of that 'warmth' that people talk about in Elacs/Wharfedales.

So I may have a biased opinion because I went with the Choras but I’ve listened to both of these at my local hifi shop. My opinion is that while B&Ws are more full range I found the Focals to be more airy and detailed without being fatiguing. If you’re pairing these with a sub I’d go with the 826s, I just found them to sound so real at times, vocals and instruments really shine especially percussion. I hear things in recordings I’ve never heard before. So my opinion is get a sealed sub or 2 from someone like HSU, REL, Rythmik etc… but if your going for a listening room without a sub the B&Ws might be a better fit for you. I’d also like to mention the Focals are hand made drivers and cabinets in France the B&Ws were made in China. That also help seal the deal for me.

Also I have 2 REL 10" Subwoofer Subwoofers up front. So, I'd their any reason to be concerned that these Focal speakers are a bit light on bass.
