  • Thanks for watching!! I'm really excited now that my new Rock Pirates Interceptor ‪@rockpiratesrc3828‬ rig has been out on the trails. I've enjoyed making the build videos, but trail running is my favorite for sure. :)
    This video is a comparison of the motor. I first installed a brushed RC4WD ‪@RC4WDMedia‬ motor and Reedy ESC to get the truck rolling. The initial combination is great for trail running, but for technical rock crawling, the 1:1 throttle action was driving me crazy. The momentum of the truck would "stall" as it came up to an obstacle and you needed to give us additional throttle to get over the particular obstacle, resulting in a "stop & go" action. Granted, this combination works if you're going for scale realism since most full-size vehicles perform in the same manner when they roll up to an obstacle.
    My objective was to make the action of the truck much smoother, so I purchased a HOBBYWING ‪@HOBBYWINGOfficial‬ QUICRUN Fusion SE 1800kv brushless motor and ESC combo. It was really affordable and the results have been amazing!! Low cost and superior results = HIGH VALUE. I already own a first generation Fusion 1800kv in another crawler, and I fell in love with it.
    I first knew about the motor after watching a couple videos from The RC Girl ‪@RCGirl‬ and also RC Review ‪@RCReviewChannel‬, so those videos helped me with my original purchase. Thank you both for the great content you put out!! :) CONGRATS!! to both of them for hitting 100k+ subscribers!! Here are their HOBBYWING videos...

    Great explained video 👍 we have a few Fusion SE in our rigs now and the performance is night and day. Its one of the first mods we make even before tyres (used to be our first change) as then we can run the trucks on a very stable platform and make tweaks to see what and where to make changes next. Thank you for sharing ❤

      Yes, it's one of the best all-around upgrades you can make to an RTR and also a custom truck without breaking the bank. It gets me more curious about the AXE series FOC motors and ESC's, at least for the sake of engaging content. I suppose those are more application specific for the more serious hobbyists. :)

  • @booost420

    Not sue I have ever had a brushed setup stall in my life ? Good esc will do the job. Using 45turn with 3 cell lipo has been a perfect so far. Have used brushless rigs before never really felt a huge gap in performance honestly. 3 cell gives you all the wheel speed. The 45t motor will get that torque where its needed : ) That being said fusion setup is on sale for less than 100cdn right now. Hard to pass up !!

    • @crawlingonallfoursRC
      @crawlingonallfoursRC  4 месяца назад +1

      Interesting. The motor I originally used was 21-turn on 3S and I was still experiencing the "stall". Granted, the performance was more "scale", so I still give it points for realism. I know all motors aren't created equal; I would actually like to get a brushed system from Holmes Hobbies in the future. My Enduro Sendero truck has the stock Reedy 5-pole motor (it's quiet!) and I had replaced the Reedy ESC (from the video) with a Hobbywing 1080 which is a great combination. It performs wonderfully with 3S. The movement is very smooth. Thanks for the great comment!! :)

    • @booost420

      @@crawlingonallfoursRC Oh the 5 pole sounds like fun. I have always found 35-55turn the optimum for hard rock crawling with 4.5+ pound rigs... paired with 3 cell of course. THis video really helped my finally try out brushless, waiting on my 1800 fusion now for the capra : D

    Just picked up a fusion SE myself and it's such a huge improvement compared to brushed motor/esc. I remember playing with smaller pinion gears to improve the start/stop stalling at low speed, but the gobs of torque at low RPM with these new generation motors makes pinion gears selection less important. Great video, and channel. Look forward to more.

      Thanks for the comment!! :) The original RC4WD 20T motor was actually pretty awesome. It was quiet, smooth, and offered a lot of torque. I believe the Reedy ESC was the weak link. I will likely use the 20T motor on another rig. Although, the Fusion motor is so affordable it's hard not to buy another one! LOL

    I have a brush motor and it’s just as smooth as hobby wing fusion. It’s got the ISDT 90 it’s belt driven with the Holmes hobby crawl master. And gen8 portal axles runs smooth as butter and a cheap axial clone scx10.2 transmission

      Sounds delicious!! :) Belt drive?? I JUST told another commenter that I was very interested in the Holmes Hobbies brushed products! I was concerned that my video might come off as too generalized against all brushed motors, bc I know not all motors are created equal. I'm a Gen8 fan; it was between a Gen8 and an Element Enduro Sendero a few years ago and I chose the Sendero (which I still love!), but I'd like to get a Gen8 with those portals. Thanks for the tip!!

    How many amps were each? I have a kit and an rtr and the difference between the two of them is night and day also. Still not a brushless but not all brushed are equal

    • @crawlingonallfoursRC
      @crawlingonallfoursRC  4 месяца назад +1

      That's a great question. If your question is referencing the ESC's, the Reedy spec is 40-amp (which actually wasn't bad for the original Element Enduro RTR) and the Fusion spec is also 40-amp, which seems typical for most intermediate components like these.
      Each motor type (all things being equal) definitely has it's pros and cons. The 21-turn RC4WD motor that I first installed was relatively quiet, smooth, and had lots of torque. Paired with the Reedy ESC, it was stop and go over while going slow over obstacles. However, it was awesome running on trails and there is a smooth throttle response as you apply input at higher speed. The brushless motors (this is my 2nd one) are more direct with their power output, like it's on/off. I can see why some people don't like brushless. For me, I like to capture my crawlers on camera and I think brushless (with FOC) gives the best bang for the buck.
      I am dying to try some of the Holmes Hobbies @holmeshobbies brushed products. I have another project in the near future, so maybe I will hit him up. :)

    • @crawlingonallfoursRC
      @crawlingonallfoursRC  4 месяца назад

      I had to make a correction. The Reedy SC400X is 40 amps (not 80 amps), so they are equal at 40 in terms of amp output.

    • @crawlingonallfoursRC
      @crawlingonallfoursRC  4 месяца назад

      That's a great question. I don't have a small-scale crawler yet, so I haven't researched this. I know I've seen 380 and 280 brushless motors before. I don't believe they have ESC's contained within the same can, though.

    Hi Crawling on all fours, I was considering this HW Fusion SE 1800kv but my first choice in getting is the HW Fusion Pro 2300kv and plan to upgrade my TRX4 Defender from its stock brushed motor seen in my channel here if you look for it.
    Do you recommend the Pro over the SE or vice versa? What do you think? Thanks.

    • @crawlingonallfoursRC
      @crawlingonallfoursRC  4 месяца назад +2

      Technically, I have both versions! :) However, my "PRO" version is actually the V1 PRO that was released a few years ago. I got that with this truck I bought on eBay, and I talk about the motor a little bit. You can see the performance and wheel speed in these videos:
      Most recent video w/ upgrades: ruclips.net/video/bd0qEconfDw/видео.html
      First video just after receiving it: ruclips.net/video/UvAg4wz_IE8/видео.html
      You can see the super slow SE wheel speed here (around 3m 25s mark): ruclips.net/video/MYetOTexBKw/видео.html
      I was already spending a good big of money on this rig, not all in one shot, so I chose the SE 1800kv simply because of price. Since many of the reviews I watched or read all agreed that the SE performed 90% as good as the PRO, I thought the SE was a no-brainer. However, if your budget allows for the PRO, go for the PRO!! You WON'T be disappointed!! Thanks for the great question!! :) :) :)
