I am planning on building an OM617 XJ. I have an '84 OM617. I have a couple XJ's, a '97 2 door that I really like and a super clean '87 4 door. I picked up an '86 5 speed XJ for the 5 speed swap. I was worried about the wiring with the '97 plus inspection issues here in Vermont so I think I will use the '87 for the diesel swap. Looking forward to seeing more videos on your XJ!
Could you make a video on your track bar? Struggling to make room and custom bend for mine using a zj pitman arm for 3/4" drop on steering drag link, and a 3/4" drop bracket from IRO for a custom double shear track bar
What year is that xj?? I'm looking at engine swaps for mine and so far I've come across a LS which is the more common one as well as a 2jz swap, I'm looking to see what my options for diesel swaps are
Just now wrapping up my om617 Mercedes swap, the biggest headache your gonna have is all the "de wireing" better be good with electric cuz that shit is gonna be annoying.
Most of it is going to stay wrapped and tucked. I’m not really interested in cutting wires. At least not yet. Maybe a year or two down the road when I know everything is still functioning 100% lol
Nice vid, im looking at buying someone’s Comanche that has had the OM617 Turbo Diesel put in it, he claims it has 120,000 on it but has no paperwork as of right now, is there any tips you can give me to know what to look for when i go to see it?
Most gauges worked right away. I have created a setup to trick the computer to wake up but haven't tried it yet because we are currently completely rebuilding the motor I put into the jeep. It will soon be back in the jeep and running again.
I dropped the trackbar about 3" to clear the pan. I also am running one ton steering so that affords me some extra room along with a rubicon express track bar. A front sump motor is not ideal, however I made it work!
I guess I should clarify, I fabricated a drop bracket at the shop for the track bar. I used the rubicon express mount as a base and built off that. It is tight but it works now.
@@KeystoneCarry ah ok I had that idea...but I went with a custom oil pan that I still need welded..great build! Mines a 90jx :-) oh have you gotten the shut off valve working?
@@TravelingTexasFisherman I used the vacuum shutoff from a mercedes car. You can also use a pull cable shutoff and run the cable through the firewall and into the cab. I have seen several people doing that
@@KeystoneCarry I'm using the vacuum shut off on mine..but it retains vacuum when I try to restart...and that's the issue in trying to sort out now :-)...I may upload a vid of my rig soon :-)
KeystoneCarry that’s a great decision! I’m going to try run it till it dies and later 7mm pump and better turbo , thanks and same to you ! Hope to see more videos ! 🤘🏽🔥
Very cool Jared

Thank you!
What type of engine is it

Very cool. Did you get the factory xj gauges working?
Most gauges worked right away. I have created a setup to trick the computer to wake up but haven't tried it yet because we are currently completely rebuilding the motor I put into the jeep. It will soon be back in the jeep and running again.
Did you use the Jeep transmission with an adapter?
Derrick Dennis yes you have to buy an adapter mercedesdiesel4x4.com you can also use om603 engine or om606 for mor power 😌
Yeah I am using the factory AX15 manual transmission
Song name at the beginning?
question? The vacuum pump goes on these motors. Can you go with Hydro brakes and kill the vacuum pump.
Yeah I am sure someone has done this. I opted to keep the factory vacuum pump.
Probably not a diesel doesnt produce vacuum hence the vacuum pump. You can maybe run a hydro boost system like Ford does with the power stroke etc.
Two big questions....first how did you get the oil pan to work with the track bar??? And second...how did you get the fuel shut off valve working???
I dropped the trackbar about 3" to clear the pan. I also am running one ton steering so that affords me some extra room along with a rubicon express track bar. A front sump motor is not ideal, however I made it work!
