    I just discovered these videos a few hours ago, and am enjoying them almost as much as you seemed to enjoy creating this work of art, Ben! And as a thank you, and in case you still haven't found out why Mod Podge is called that, I can tell you! It is a play on the French term, decoupage, which means "to cut out", or "a cutting out", and is the name of the crafting technique of using overlapping cut pieces of paper and lacquer, glue or varnish to bind them. This craft became popular in the United States the 1960s and into the early 1970s when I was a kid. However, as it became popular, it was soon discovered that most of the binding products were hard to work with, resin based, and took a long time to dry. So naturally, someone came up with a formula which worked better than any of the other common products for this application- a water based, quick drying glue of the proper consistency to adapt to differing methods of application- like brushing on (as you did in the video), sponging on, dripping, dispensing from a tipped bottle, using fingers, and of course, full dip-coating - and that was cheap to produce, easy to clean up- very important when a classroom full of 3rd graders are making collages- and which dried and stayed clear. Obviously, this was a superior product for the production of "modern decoupage", or.... Mod Podge, for short! The second half of the name is simply a phoenetic spelling of the back half of the French word, decoupage.
    I can't say with 100% certainty that this is indeed the true origin of the product's name, but I suspect if it is not exact, it is very close to it, as it is the explanation which my paternal Grandmother gave to me when I was about 7- back when Mod Podge was still a fairly new product. It makes sense to me, even some 45 years later, and I am willing to bet my Grandma didn't lie, make it up, or even stretch the truth- it wasn't in her character. She didn't tell fibs to keep children happy- she told true stories of her youth, or my father's childhood antics for that. And when asked a direct question, she would admit she didn't know, unless she did know. So I do trust this explanation, and even if you are skeptical, I do hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed reminiscing, and remembering my Gran'ma, Ramona (Gahr) Thole.

    I have been "tinkering" with guitars for 30+ years. The first ones I actually made were in the shape of an axe head and the other was a trace out of an ibanez destroyer that I got at the local music store. Mostly tweaking different things, playing with wiring, components etc. Lately I have been considering getting a kit and not just put it together but to make it my own. Your ideas of carving/beveling the outside like you did in the first couple videos I think is both very interesting and would look to make the guitar easier and more comfortable to play. The thing I am liking the most so far out of this build is this video. Who knew you could make a burrito holder out of a guitar :)

    Notice the different colouration to the two parts of the guitar. The Hollowed/Be-Hexagoned (?) piece has been handled so much that the oils of your hands have darkened that piece by comparison to the rest of the body.

    Perhaps a quiet LED with a queen bee inside the honeycomb would have ramped up the overall shock of the guitar :) well done bro :)

  • @guycore5478
    @guycore5478 6 лет назад

    Will you install a lighting system to give depth and color? You could add different color lighting tape around the interior sides and top to have the interior glow in static, random cycling, or programmable colors. Better yet, make it like a light organ that changes colors as you play, with light colors matching output frequencies and light intensity matching volume levels.
    BTW, I'd personally paint that whole part as dark a purple as possible just this side of black, with green highlights, then paint the chamfers gold or cut brass or copper pieces to line the chamfers. That with a subtle light kit inside would be stunning.

I've seen some cool RUclips vids of people pasting & sealing things like comic book pages to guitar bodies, lots of possibilities. Can't wait for the 90 hour build vids later as well as the completion of this guitar, looking really cool thus far!

    just saw this and I have to say it is an impressive build and I personally would love to have it. I would also like to say that I would have made a slight change in that instead of using the aluminum foil I would have went copper. I personally think copper would have looked superb against the natural wood colors in a flat or gloss clear finish.

    You talked about mesh, I'm assuming that's out of the picture or you wouldn't see the foil, adding the edge light might be cool to reflect off of it too, I don't really know how well all that shiny newness will fit on a guitar from some dystopian future. I had a little chuckle at all the crinkled up foil, but of course you can burnish that. Just waiting for the payoff with eveyone else! Boy, I really hate suspense!

    Not sure if I'm sold on the tin foil around the honeycomb. I quite enjoyed the wood look of it, and also if I wanted it to look metallic I personally would have wanted it to be less... crinkly? If that makes sense.
    Still, you're the designer, not me, so I definitely want to see what you do with it and how it looks in the final build! Damn, I dont even play guitar (not for lack of trying), and this just makes me want to build them lol.

    3) repeating things. On the first or second video in this series, you said (I may be paraphrasing slightly) "one of the things I don't like in cyber punk is using superfluous things that aren't needed." It gave me a chuckle.

    Cool Design, only i have one Problem with the AluminiumFoil technique. Why did u not use Aluminium Roofing Tape? Kind of looks like heat shielding foil that you see in aerospace and other high temperature applications, so it's fitting, because cyberpunk isnt meant to be sleek and brand new, with the occasional exception.
    Also, It's sad that there's no point in entering the competition (and thus buying stuff from the store) because I'm left handed and could never play the guitar if i got it.
