    I am a retired police officer from Berlin-Germany. This is one of those moments when you realize what you're made of. From zero to one hundred within a second.
    The normal person turns around and runs as fast as he can. This is pure danger to life and completely understandable.
    But this is not the job of a police officer. You are there to assess the level of danger and combat it immediately. That's why you became a police officer and that's what you get paid for. This is exactly the attitude that most of the police in Germany have and this is exactly how this colleague acted.
    Immediately switched from a nice conversation to the action. He was alone, and few can appreciate how dangerous the mission was. How many perpetrators, what weapon, what or who is the target, where or where the perpetrator or perpetrators are moving. Eh, shots could have been fired from outside the building from an inside shop, etc.
    a Excellent work by the colleague. What hurts most is the victims and, above all, their number. This colleague faces sleepless weeks and self-recriminations. He could have intervened a little quicker himself. In my opinion no. From my own experience I can only say that this will be a bad time.
    The brain goes its own way.

      @@viikmaqic [Edited for clarity] Thank you for your response. I actually watched a couple other videos on it and, yep, people were discussing how it wasn't a good idea to drive closer.
      They were also talking about how the officer should be doing more cardio because it was also dangerous to run all that way and be winded. But, some of the commentators from the videos said maybe that's the case, but he still had a lot to carry and it was a hot day.
      In the end, the guy did amazingly well. Nailed that idiot

    • @steeljawX
      @steeljawX Год назад +2

      @@LA_HA There's a lot of other speculative minutia anyone can come up with that would make sense. Like rolling up with lights flashing and siren blaring is just telling the shooter his time is limited before he has someone to deal with. Instead the officer rolled up on foot and I'm sure the shooter wasn't expecting the officer to be there THAT fast. But I really don't know what went through that shooter's head besides a 5.56mm round. Also as you saw in the video, there were cars meandering around with panic and no clue what to do/what was going on. You throw a police vehicle with lights a blaring and sirens a flashing (or something like that), then that's just more factors of panic added and there's bound to be people who just freeze up. Then you have an obstacle obstructing the path of a vehicle.
      As janky as it seemed for the officer to hoof it, it was the right decision for how quickly everything unfolded. But some people are correct; more cardio wouldn't hurt this officer none, and he did down that scum as cool, calm, and collect he could be with the carnage around him, that guy firing back, and people probably screaming at him and flailing about distracting him.

    • @LA_HA
      @LA_HA Год назад +1

      @@steeljawX Yes. I see the problem much better now. Though, in the back of my mind, even driving up a little without lights and sirens might've been helpful. But, of course, that's going by the video After the events took place. Armchair quarterbacking. So, I think we have nothing more to do than be So Glad that this officer was able to remain unharmed, save the taxpayers and families the cost and circus of a trial, and that this video will be shown to officers all over The Country. Except for the people murdered, it was as perfectly executed (pun definitely intended) as it could have been

    It's the sensible action to take and it's the same thing applicable to a lot of things. Do you relieve the symptoms or do you cure the infection? The officers can help administer first aid, but that's just a case of alleviating symptoms. The source of the infection would be the active shooter. Eliminate them and then you can treat the symptoms. There's little to no point in slapping a band-aid on a dismembered limb if the blender is still dragging you in and it's the same case here.
    If anything at all, this officer is probably torn about how his "sub-optimal" positioning and timing led to so many victims. However that's far beyond his control and demanding he be closer to the action next time is asinine, insensitive (as you are basically hoping he'll be a part of another active shooter incident,) and shallow-minded. If he was closer to the initial shooting, guess who the shooter would have hit first? That'd be the officer. Then who would have responded? The second officer that showed up. But how long did it take him to show up with eyes on the suspect and in an effective engagement range? There would have been more victims if the officer was further or closer, and it's really difficult to say where the "optimal" placement he could have been in would have been. Either way, he did his job, critiques can go stop an active mass shooter themselves before they judge him, and condolences and sincere empathy to the victims and their families.
    Lastly, take note all of those extremist who think defunding the police will solve some sort of social issue. If the police were defunded then that officer wouldn't of had a service rifle and maybe at best would have had a taser. How many victims would there have been with a defunded precinct? Don't yell at me, figure it out yourselves because that's the society you want. You want no one to be able to stand up against people like these active shooters. You think that if you some how make the rules as you've imagined it that the world will then function as you want it to, but reality doesn't conform to ridiculous ideals. That's just how things work.

      @@clipsedrag13 On the contrary, people are so desensitized to gun violence in this country because they don't SEE the effects of it. Make them all view the aftermath of a mass shooting and they might change their tune. Make it real for them.

      @@xviper2k I see what you are saying but it doesn't hold up logically, most of us are already aware of the violence, seeing it up close will not change anything for the better it will only make us more desensitized to violence. You seem to just be anti-gun and want people to change their stance out of pure emotion by forcing them to see it. Logically, guns have always been around and yes machine guns are more regulated today than back in the 40's era with the Tommy gun and there was no such thing as random, motiveless violence. Obviously there is something else going on and it is no secret that we have a mental health problem here that isn't taken seriously.

If our governments prohibit us people that want to follow the law be able to protect ourselves, then they should set up Active Shooter First Response Teams. Train and let well vetted citizens be allowed to carry rifles in their cars and sidearms on them concealed on a volunteer basis.

    Without getting political, because I'm not an NRA fan, this situation shows why you should educate yourself and carry here in the States. Even with a cop on scene immediately that was still quite a few minutes before armed operators engaged the gunman. Also, the gunman had no criminal history, so no law would've prevented him from obtaining that firearm. Heartbreaking for the victims and first responders, and I am glad the damage was minimized quickly.
